I think this will also negatively effect chart performance (not even mentioning releasing new SNSD while new EXO is still on the charts).
It makes me wonder if they're more about just having an "SNSD are legends so it doesn't matter" comeback and not worrying about making any new records.

Lion Heart didn't get to 2 million in the first 24 hours, Party got like 3 million in 24 hours... and after 2 years OFF, 2 F*ing years guys , they finally came back and they got like 7 million for holiday and All night (Doc.) to 4 million and now this clean version is assumed to get 2.5 million in 24 hours.. They stood the test of time. That's what legends are. They've worked hard and deserve their position. I have so much respect for them. Popularity isn't really the point in this industry. You know everyone's gonna get hyped up in Kpop. Everyone will go to a phase where they'll be extremely popular. They'll be the mass' favorite. But what matters most is after the hype. Will they remain in the music scene?Not everyone survives. Being able to withstand time and still able to sell, only real legends do that. They've earned their supporters. That's what veterans are. We can't compare rookies to legends. Let's just see how the rookies nowadays will do after a decade or two

I don't think holiday and all night were meant to be comebacks for the girls to compete with others. That's why they never promoted the album before it came out. I think it's just a celebration song for all of the sones. Like "hey sones, thanks for the 10 year of love and support! Let's party!!" Rather than "ok we are back and better than ever! Let's make this comeback #1!"
This is exactly what I thought. But, you know what, I know this is far fetched but I feel like they are going to have another comeback very soon in 2017. I know it sounds like wishful thinking. But, like you said this seems like an album to simply celebrate their 10 years with their fans. Everyone knows this album is amazing in terms of being a 10th anniversary celebration album. But, it doesn't feel like a proper comeback. SNSD probably knows that better than us. Yet, Sooyoung stated that her wish was to win a Daesang this year. And, as a veteran group they know very well how strong a comeback needs to be to win a Daesang. I've been following all SNSD related news for a while now and they have been looking at songs and working on their comeback since Dec 2016. That's a lot of time. Which is why i feel like they're going to drop a surprise comeback video soon. I mean, holiday is not Taeyeon's style at all but she doesn't seem too upset about it. Rumours were that they were working on a comeback like I got a Boy or maybe a mermaid concept but there were also rumours of a retro style comeback (which i think was in reference to all night probably). Also, Lion Heart and Party are very similar to Holiday and we all know those two songs didn't do as well as their previous comebacks( not hating on Lion heart and Party, i love those songs). And, before Holiday was released SNSD stated that they now knew what kind of songs their fans wanted. Okay, so this is pretty much why i think they're going to drop another mv. This could just be me being extremely hopeful in life. But, I hope it's true. And, if it's not I'll still be happy because Holiday Night is gold

@PABLETE Of course they're going to promote the album because fans have been bombarding them with requests to see them on broadcast ever since they announced a comeback in the second half of 2017. But just coz they're promoting it doesn't mean everything is about competition. SNSD literally said on the album that the only people they cared about was SONES, and if SONES liked the album that was enough.
If what SNSD really cared about was competition, they would've dropped their physical and digitals on a Monday, where streams/sales can immediately be counted for a music show win on the first week. But no, what was important was the release of their album was a day before their 10th anniversary (4th Augus on a FRIDAY, where the week is already almost over), so that SONES can be prepared and sing along with them on the day of their 10th anniversary fanmeet the next day.
Kim Nguyen, It doesn't mean that because it's "not suited to be 1st" that it's not a comeback. But like it's their 10 years anniversary that's normal that they did much chilling song for it.. being a singer doesn't mean always being first no matter what's your influence in music..
Look at SES: they did a comeback for their 20th anniversary, but did a concert instead of promoting in shows and it wasn't some partying song..
Being a singer it's also do what you love to do, love the support and love for your fans and be thankful and happy about it..
And they are going to promote the songs anyways, and it doesn't mean that they can't grab the 1st place of music shows..

I know that SNSD released All Night and Holiday as a celebration for their 10th year Anniversary. And werent expecting much beyond that. However, All Night is so underrated. The MV was obviously going for the retro look, but watch their live stages of All Night. It really displays their "knife like" choreography that they got famous for. For 8 of them to sync those moves and transitions that well, was really difficult to pull off. Its impressive. Sooyoung picked All Night as her most underrated SNSD song.

Being a kpop fan for 6 years, I can guarantee different kpop fandoms were no where near as competitive to the toxic fans today who wanna support their group by bringing down others. Back in the day ppl didn't "stream" youtube views constantly to beat other groups' views. Ofc there were fanwars, but it was definitely not as common as today. People just watched each group's videos and commented what their opinion on the song was, not any of this "once here to support soshi!!1!1" "im a blink but I love this song" crap. A lot of snsd fans have been around for a while now, and honestly a lot of people aren't immature enough to be "streaming" views to beat others. (If you are then go ahead it's not a bad thing). Eg i love snsd and i didn't watch any of their mvs until today LOL cos yanno wat we don't care. This is for those immature fans of rookie groups who keep bringing down snsd bc of "views" (don't even bring in the charts cos you're not offending anyone lol)

I feel like the fanwars are partly because of media coming to play a bigger part in kpop... new fandoms have a lot of power in getting their fave artists awards so it's a lot more competitive. Also, the only reason toxic fans get attention and appear to be so common is because people call attention to it and give them attention. Truth is, they're a minority of fandoms. Most of us new group stans are peaceful and support a lot of groups, old and new.
Tbh i think we care about views since intl fans cannot do as much as Korean fans and this is the only way (and pre-ordering their albums) we can help them to have a successful cb. That's why we care. We want to show them our support in music shows and TH-cam is the main platform for intl fans.

Its nice to see fan comments like this...im not a SONE, but SNSD is so iconic and has some of the best kpop songs ever (this song is one of my fave tracks on 2017) they will be forever in our memory and 10 years of amazing music is no small feat. Also I don't think any group will truly replicate the success of SNSD, they helped make kpop a global phenomenon. Ask any kpop fan who the most iconic group is of all time and even I will say SNSD and I'm a blackjack.

maybe that YulSoo scene was to represent the relationship of snsd and sones? yuri is sone and sooyoung is snsd? look how yuri how stands in the audience when everyone else is there but even after the others leave, yuri still stays for sooyoung, showing that the true sones was there, and will always be there even after snsd falls. snsd was reaching their success from gee but after lionheart in 2015, they didnt make any comebacks for two whole years. in just two years so much shit happened. from older groups like wg, 2ne1, kara, t-ara, rainbow and 4m disbanding to newer groups like pristin, wjsn, twice, gfriend and bp debuting. in two years snsd too did lose a few fans, internationals have this multifandom thing but they ult other groups more now. but koreans just leave the older groups they stanned to find newer ones. but snsd is still one of the only ggs who've reached the 10 year mark and they dont have a sign of disbandment coming up. this comeback was not for views, chart toppings or fame, it was to show their love and thankfulness to sones all along

SNSD paved the way for the girl groups now! they destroyed the stereotype during their era that kpop was ruled by boyband! they experienced black ocean during the 2008 dream concert, but they never gave up and eventually became the nations girl group that led to the new ear of girl group. Love this group since 2007! Their iconic debut song ITNW is frequently played in peaceful protest and also use this song in auditions to evaluate contestants.

Disco concept aren't something brand new or something that are owned by a specific group, the reason why a lot of kpop groups are doing a disco concept is because of how retro music became a trend and it didn't become a one because of snsd it's because of Dua Lipa, it's something great that they had a disco concept and retro music but honestly they didn't impact it if you know what I mean, they didn't influence any groups or idols to do it there's tons of comebacks in kpop and not every one of them are influential just like this one I know that snsd are legends and influenced kpop but not that one, and mostly I'm pretty sure it was made by some western producer or songwriter it's not like Kpop invented something retro music has been always a thing snsd using it is not a trend or something that would change the industry lol
