    You will be such great parents! A baby wrap. We hardly ever used the stiffer Ergobaby one. But, I did a lot of baby wearing as little liked to be held for the first weeks/months. I used the Boba and loved it. Looking into the Solly this second time around. I wasn’t the mom who could multitask and like load/unload the dishwasher and do laundry while baby wearing. But, it gave support and gave me at least one free hand :) Also, we had a countertop sterilizer for bottles and pump parts and all that. The dishwasher cycle took forever and the counter one was much quicker/more efficient. Finally, baby mittens. Those nails are sharp and when they can’t control movements so well, their faces seem to bear the brunt.

    I'm a nanny of 8 years who has used both types of diaper pails and much prefer the Ubbi...I was confused when you said if I'm holding baby how do I open the hatch. How are you holding the diaper? With your teeth? LOL The reason I don't like the one you purchased is because as it fills you really need to shove the diapers in there. Not so bad with pee diapers, much less fun with blow outs! Just my two cents. :) I love the simplicity of your nursery, you really do only need the basics!

I found it wasn't that useful when my son was newborn (I guess just part of it, they don't sleep period lol), but once he moved to his own room at 6 mon and was sleeping better, it became super important.. he's 2.5 now and we still use for every night and nap.

    My kids love their books even more than their toys, and you are so right, reading time is great for bonding and an essential for getting them ready for bed.
    Unpopular opinion here, I am NOT a believer of the white noice machines. Sometimes kids become so dependent on them that they can’t sleep without one, it makes things harder on parents when they are out or traveling or sleepovers at the gparents, or if the sound machine stops working. I do have music on or normal volume conversations with my husband or other relatively loud noises on while putting babies to sleep, I find it helps them with falling asleep no matter the place or situation and it helps them stay asleep better when it’s noisy around them, like the dog barking or the neighbors mowing the lawn or my husband putting away dishes😂
    Ps: you look so pretty and glowing

    I have a 10 weeks old. For nails, I recommend an electric trimmer it’s like $20 on Amazon. It’s so much easier than nail clippers. I have a hatch sound machine in my bedroom that was gifted and I love but if I had to purchase my own, I would just do a cheaper one/portable one because once baby goes into their own room, the Nanit (which I also have and love) has a built in sound machine.

  • @FlamedWater

    It's quite interesting to see how different the official medical recommendations for baby care are in different cultures. It seems to me that it is common in the USA and Great Britain to set up a nursery for the baby and expect the baby to sleep there relatively soon after birth. At the same time, German pediatricians highly recommend to have the baby sleep in the parents' room for the first year of their life to prevent SIDS.
    You would assume that both German and US pediatricians base their suggestions on international research and would therefore recommend the same thing. But there seems to be a cultural component here as well, I guess, probably on both sides.
    That is not to say that any of these practices is right or wrong: you do you and what works best for your family!
    I noticed these kinds of small discrepancies in my pregnancy because I read and watched recommendations in 3 languages. While they agreed in many topics, there were quite a few cases where the sources would recommend completely different things and they would all claim to be based on the most recent research :D

    • @TheDoctorsBjorkman
      @TheDoctorsBjorkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A good rule of thumb is that baby should have 1 more layer of clothing than mom/dad would in the same room.
      So if you keep the nursery at room temp, then baby could wear a onesie and then have one swaddle blanket and be perfectly able to maintain body temperature without an extra heater.

    I'm a little confused about whether babies who are breastfed need supplemental vitamins. Is that something you've seen in your research?

    • @TheDoctorsBjorkman
      @TheDoctorsBjorkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      All babies need vitamin D supplementation until 4 months of age.
      If breastfed they can get supplements in the form of vitamin D drops, or there’s been evidence that if mom is taking 6,000 IU a day that baby will get enough from the breastmilk.
      If formula fed, the baby will get vitamin D from the formula, but usually not enough until they are 4 months old and taking more volume.

    As an 8+ year daycare infant teacher, I have found that desitin diaper rash is something you should avoid. Majority of my babies would cry harder when it was applied instead of it soothing them. For some it actually caused them such bad burns their diaper rash started as red bumps and turned into full open raw exposed skin over their entire butt. As soon as I brought up to the parents I thought the desitin is what was causing it to be worse we as workers and the parents switched to a different diaper cream and their rash started to get better instantly! I HATE desitin so much! I love Boudreaux’s butt paste though!

    • @TheDoctorsBjorkman
      @TheDoctorsBjorkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It sounds like maybe it wasn’t a contact dermatitis you were treating, but possibly diaper candidiasis. Which would make sense with the reaction you’re talking about.
      The zinc in Desitin (and many other butt pastes) help with healing from contact dermatitis, that is the cause of most diaper rashes. Many of the pediatric nurses I’ve worked with in our children’s hospital swear by Desitin. - The key with these rashes is really helping the diaper area dry out.
      Some diaper rashes, however, can be caused by a yeast leading to candidiasis that shows up with lots of red dots that spread - especially if left moist. Nystatin is usually a great first option for these.
