Natassia Longmore The problem is that other communities often steal from people of color, profit from our ideas and don’t put money back into those communities or give the influencers credit. This has happened time and time again throughout history. Like Elvis befriending black people, stealing songs from them and the black creators of those hit songs dying penniless. Or black people inventing rock n’ roll and practically every genre of music and white rock stars acting as if they are the originators. This happens all the time but with the help of social media, these thieves are finally being exposed and called out. We as a community need to stop allowing this. We are inventing the ideas and Asians and whites are the ones profiting from these ideas. The reason Asians have obtained such wealth is because they stick together and support one another. They don’t allow their products to be sold to black vendors and intentionally shut black business owners out of the market. We need to operate the same way and when we see things like this, we should boycott. I’m not saying you should not purchase from all asian vendors but when they have been exposed as greedy thieves and intentionally steal ideas from black women, we should make those thieves feel the backlash by hitting them where it hurts... in their pockets. Precious Marie didn’t patent the idea because her intent was to help women of color with their hair. Hairvivi took advantage of that, and instead of doing the right thing and collaborating with her, they took the idea and didn’t credit her until they were confronted by the black community. This company makes millions a year and they are just plain greedy. Now they are trying to fix what they did by backtracking and complimenting Precious Marie...but compliments do NOT result in checks or income.
Also patents often don’t work internationally. Other counties don’t observe patent laws which is why you see so many blatant knockoffs from asian countries

The company that jumped on it was making a business move, that’s what business people to. No need to create something new when what has already been created works well.
