Seeing Welonz transition from avoiding horror games to diving into one of the most renowned horror franchises of all time is fantastic. I remember being too scared to play this when I was younger, so I watched a Let's Play series on TH-cam.

I got a letter. The name of the envelope said: "Welonz", that's my youtuber's name. That's ridiculous. it couldn't possibly be true. That's what I keep telling myself. A cowardly person can't possibly play silent hill. Welonz got scared of that damned game many years ago. But why am I looking for her?. Could she really be in this platform? Playing this game for me?

Silent hill 2 is the perfect game when it comes to depression. It’s comforting in its overwhelming sadness and decay, emotionally draining, and yet therapeutic. The original still affects me over a decade later, and in my opinion Blooper really knocked it out of the park with this remake.
I love this so much. I've been looking for someone who has not played the original and doesn't know the story.
Love your pacing. You take your time and your thought process fits the game so well. Not goofy or anything. No distracting face cam. Playing calm and realistic. Really glad that I found this because so many other Let's Plays of this game where just not my thing and I turned them off after a few minutes in.
Looking forward to all parts.

27:27 - If you're wondering what that was, that's a little easter egg to the original game. In the OG, that tunnel is where you meet the first enemy, but it was changed in the remake. There are others in the rest of the game that follow the same rule: Its a location that alludes to where something happened in the original, but its just a little reference :)

Thing with the fog is that due to technical limitations of the PS1 the fog had to be always quite literally on your face so they devised the radio to tell you when enemies were near you in the fog and even then you could often get attacked unawares. This perpetual fog then became a sort of a theme and artistic focal point in the games later on.

52:24 I haven't played this remake yet, and your video is the first time I'm seeing it in action. But I'd be willing to bet you probably could have broken the rear window of this vehicle and taken that bottle that was behind the glass. It looked identical to the health drink you had just found earlier. (Also, the game had just recently taught you that breaking glass with the wooden plank is a thing you can do.)
I'm terrible with horror, but Silent Hill 2 is one of those you always hear about. I can only really do horror when I'm not alone. So here I am, Welonz, I trust you to be my pilot through this story. Time to go for a spooky adventure. Hope I don't regret it LMAO.

As a long-time Silent Hill fan, I was very skeptical of SH2R, but really looking at it through a newcomer's playthrough, I really have to commend the effort of keeping it close enough to the original's aesthetic while adding a new approach to keep it fresh. Not sure if I'm a fan of every decision made, but it's looking better than I thought so far!
Blooper Team overall knows what they're doing when it comes to horror. They COULDN'T keep everything the exact same. Both because the scares would be predictable and the adapt to modern times. No "Remake" should be frame for frame the same. Then it's just a high quality remaster imo. Which Silent Hill 2 has already

I can't believe that Maria was so upset at James for never taking her to Silent Hill as he promised that she went as far as faking her own death for three years just to get him there. Quite a prankster she is! I can't wait for more zany shenanigans with this fun loving couple!
From what I hear the first Silent Hill is one of those games whose atmosphere is elevated by the limited graphics of its era so I can see why they'd want to tackle the sequel first.
While silent hill 1 take is kinda true, silent hill 2 was and still is best silent hill game, so what is better then remaking their most popular one?
One of the reasons there's so much fog in the first game is so that they could hide the low draw distance, but it turned into one of the most iconic elements in the series.
i can't even imagine what the monsters from SH1 would look like in high definition. Their low poly shapes are so memorable and scary imo.

Really excited to see you play (a remake of) one of the best horror games ever made! Completely blind no less. Even as someone who doesn't get scared by horror, Silent Hill 2 is still one of my favourite games.
That style of raised first floors is pretty common in areas prone to flooding. Or just when the ground is very uneven. Hope this fun fact distracts you from the psychological torment.

Silent Hill is a quaint resort town situated on Taluka Lake in the American Northeast.
33:17 the location of Silent Hill (the movie based on the game) is based on an actual disaster location. Centralia, Pennsylvania was a town built on a coal seam and one day the fire department was burning trash and it lit the coal seam on fire. The town had to be evacuated.
"Why are men always trying to find their wives in some creepy place? Maybe more importantly why are wives always going to creepy places" - the entire horror industry build on that trope, Resident Evil 7 says "Hi" in that regard too lol So far I'm enjoying watching this playthrough, it's a bit reminding me Welonz exploring the scenery in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (oh, her lovely early gamer's days *tears of nostalgy*), only here the intensity raised to 100%, and instead of a beauty we see decay and despair. Sound Design in this game is perfection, gives chills while you're going through Silent Hill areas. Stay brave, Welonz, stay strong! We're with you spiritually, guiding into the abyss of horror on every step ahead! 👣☔
Original SH2 is truly iconic and this seems to be a very good remake of it (at least so far).
For everyone watching / playing for the first time, I’d say “have fun”, but I’d rather say - prepare for the experience!

I have never played a single Silent Hill game but as a kid in the 2000s I had a gaming magazine that had a section dedicated to a bunch of endings of one of these games and reading those I was so scared. My imagination probably made them 10x scarier at the time lol

I think the reason why "Man goes to spooky town to look for someone" is so common is because their wife or daughter are the number one people any man will actually be willing to go through hell to reunite with.
If my neighbour or a co-worker disappeared to Silent Hill I'm sorry to say I'd probably go home after seeing that first monster.

I actually really really appreciate this walkthrough. Even if this ends up being an inferior version, and I wouldn't wish an inferior version of one of the best stories in gaming on anyone, especially on Welonz who is so smart and observing, I get a chance to experience this remake through her fresh gaze, which I wouldn't have had, and none of my friends would have had, and any other youtubers I follow. Did they manage to keep all the subtle storytelling? I wouldn't know, because I already know the full story.

Welcome to the tortured psyche of James Sunderland haha. This isn't a jumpscare horror type of game dear Welonz, we know your aversion to that. This is psychological horror that defined the genre. Not a classic without reason or merit. Deals with some pretty adult themes here and it's going to be interesting to see how these developers approach them. Will they tone it down and back off a bit? I really, REALLY hope not because the original was pretty groundbreaking in how it presented them in the game media.
This is the type of game that could benefit greatly from an update in graphics and sound effects, as long as it's done right. Really hoping it is.

Yes, lol. I only played the OG, and that is a milestone in psychological horror games, i don't know how this remake can keep the atmosphere but hopefully it can. Also Silent Hill 1 is also somethig worth checking out. I think these games were much ahead of their time.
Without going into detail Silent Hill isn't abandoned like it was in the movie (which also changed the fog to smoke).

Setting: 22ish years ago. Silent Hill. (Fictional town based off of a real life Pennsylvania coal town).. Lol Welonz on the Save Points... This is based off of an older game. Its not a cake walk... But i think as long as you save often and know where the quickest one is
Don't get it twisted. The first movie was code named "Centralia" while shooting. (And let's be fair, in case Konami pulled their support from the film as they didn't like the fact there were (by their own opinions) too many women. At least they could use the sets and the actors and change the name.
If the CD liner notes are correct, Silent Hill is in Maine, despite having a California body of water and road architecture.
It's becoming more and more a moot point as they're trying to fold the film into the games for marketing purposes, but originally Silent Hill had nothing to do with Centralia.

In a way, Welonz, you're still in graveyard, but you're staring at a corpse, and that corpse is Silent Hill.
It's not a one-for-one analogy though...but it's decaying, overgrown and unmaintained. The death of lives lived in this area. Empty, personless, devoid of color. A thing not just at rest, but at it's final rest.
Ghost towns usually have three causes, and they're not always exclusive to each other. Attrition, economic, disaster.
Attrition: Not enough people live in the area for it even to be officially called a city and exist as it's own legal entity. It's just there, but it's not a there legally recognized.
Usually but not always combined with the other two.
It looks like Silent Hill had a natural disaster. Roads ripped up, deep fissures, major upheaval of municipal utilities like sewage and water. But it's damned peculiar to be happening in this day and age and have the citizenry just disappear. The last case of forced evacuation for anything except flooding or apathy would likely have been Centralia, because of a fire in the mines, burning it's way thru a large vein of coal, burning too hot and too many fumes to put out with contemporary fire-fighting techniques. But it was big freakin' news at the time.
