Until Dawn is an interactive drama survival horror adventure video game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Set in Western Canada, Until Dawn centers around a group of eight teenagers who decide to vacation for a night in a cabin on the fictional Blackwood Mountain, exactly one year after the disappearance of two girls, with whom the group was acquainted. Shortly after arriving, the gang find themselves under attack by a psychopath, and must attempt to survive until sunrise. Throughout the adventure, players alternate between all eight characters, making critical decisions as the story advances which drastically affects the game's outcome, leading to hundreds of different scenarios in Until Dawn.
Until Dawn is designed to be played multiple times, as players cannot see all content with a single play-through. Each playthrough lasts about nine hours in length and the game mechanics utilize an in-game system called the "Butterfly Effect" in which any choice of action by the player may cause unforeseen consequences later on. For example, locating a weapon in an earlier chapter may allow the player to pick it up down the line when a chase scene leads back to the same room. Throughout the game, players will make difficult decisions during ethical or moral dilemmas, such as sacrificing one character to save another. The Butterfly Effect system blurs the line between right and wrong decisions, and it is possible for players to keep all eight characters alive as well as having all eight of them die, allowing for many different paths and scenarios as well as offering several different endings for each character. Until Dawn has a strict auto-save system to prevent players from reloading a previous save file to an earlier point in the game if they regret an in-game decision they have made. The only way to change the player's choice is to restart the game from the beginning or continue to the end and start a new game. The developer has stated that Until Dawn has "hundreds of endings" but that should not be taken literally. Different endings have different variations depending on the combination of characters alive at the end of the game.
In an unpredictable and dynamically adaptive story, crafted in consultation with Until Dawn scriptwriters and indie horror auteurs Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, Until Dawn features eight friends come together at a remote mountain getaway and embark upon a night of unexpected terror. Through the course of the night, anyone can live, anyone can die, and things aren't always what they seem. Twists and turns will keep you guessing right to the end as you play each of the friends. The decisions you make on their behalf will determine who survives Until Dawn.

You asked if this game took place in 1999... They barely had decent cellphones back then, let alone smartphones.
I've started watching several LPs of this game but never finished one. This might be the one I stick with to the end, because your reactions and decisions are usually very relatable to me and you don't goof around at the expense of the game. (Also, that title jump-scare points towards some very entertaining moments in the future.^^)

Actually, you couldn't save Beth. You couldn't Hannah either, it's part of the game. Also, when you have the choice between 'safe' and 'fast' I think if you choose 'fast' you just have to do more (click more buttons)

Omg this really dropped in my sub box? Wow I have to watch this, Until Dawn is a great game. Your choices matter whether people live or die, the games scary, but more importantly, the game rewards you for exploring, allowing you to collect items that fleshes out the game and of course, totems.

I just watched a playthrough of this game earlier this week and I was thinking to myself I wonder if mater would play it cause it is so David cagey and she has just finished the trio of cage games this would be a great game. Mater you have made me into a psychic. Or wait maybe it's the cage, I've seen to much it's changed me lol

Oh yeah, the framerate is terrible. The one area this game could do with some Cage input is on optimisation.
Hmm, I actually don't know if Cage's games are that much better optimized -- Beyond ran nicely but I was all too aware that the entire thing was letterboxed!

Huh. Never expected you to do this game. It's definitely a good one though, as I think it does the "you choices matter" the best out of the games in that genre I've played.
What really surprised me about this game is how I ended up liking some of the characters in it eventually, especially after the poor first impression most of them gave me due to that prank in the beginning.
Regarding the butterfly effect I would like to explain for those who don't know this game,how many characters will survive at the end is purely up to your decisions during the game +in the game if you are observant enough then you can find totems that will show you something in the future (during the game,it's basically give you a hint)

Until Dawn is overall good, some cheesy (sometimes deliberate) moments. One thing that always bothered me, however, is that your choices in the prologue/beginning make no difference at all. Even if you make the asshole move of dropping Hannah. Thankfully the rest of the game isn't like that, and there are real consequences, but it sets a bad precedent at the beginning if you realize there's nothing you could do.
Yeah they use it as more of a tutorial than anything else honestly. It would be cool if it changed stuff but then it might have derailed the entire story too xD
Most of the time it's the eyes that throw me into the uncanny valley but with this game it's their mouths for some reason.
The game is very entertaining for TH-camr to play.

Mh, I don't know, but now that I see it again, this game reminds me of Oxenfree in some aspects. Dorky teenagers, a tense atmosphere, and something supernatural...wouldn't that be something, an Oxenfree remake with gameplay and graphics of Until Dawn?
Totally agree when I first played this and it runs at 20fps it was like wtf, so nice to have a locked 60 on the back compat PS5 version
I think it would be great if you played SOMA. It's definitely a horror game but it relies much more on atmospheric / psychological horror than Until Dawn. I think you'd like the excellent atmosphere, setting and story of the game!
Edit: Also, I'm pretty excited for this LP. Despite the fact that Until Dawn is (intentionally) cheesy and jump scare heavy it's a pretty original and cool game. I think it's currently the best game in the interactive movie genre.

Hmmm. Your in-game sound seems a bit 'tinny' to me (your commentary is fine). Might want to check your audio setup for future recording sessions. Other games you've done on the PS4 have sounded great.

In this game , it looks like they have gathered few of the stupidest supposedly college students , plus the most obnoxious and oblivious noisiest people they can ever find and created a game
Danger is around them , people are dying and they stil talk loud like nothing is happening , separating from each other while monsters are on every corner ! Found it very unrealistic

The whole "decisions have consequences" schtick is so overdone, as usual. Characters can die, sure, but none of the ones who can die are in any way important to the story after that moment, so that the story doesn't have to change much at all. The idea that your experience is in any way unique is very silly. Still, it's a fun time.
