    My sugestion if you do run your FFL from your home or garage, make it a DETACHED GARAGE with its own address. For example: if your address is 123 someplace ave, then your garage should be 123.5 someplace ave.
    The reason for that is ATF has the ability to come and audit your FFL business when they want. They may never, but they can. If your FFL is attached to your home address, attached garage or in your home itself, they can look over your entire home. If you don't mind that OK, but I simply don't like them going through my house when it is completely unnecessary

    Rich, just wanted to tell you I watched this about 14 months ago. You got my pumped up to do something I always wanted to do. Well this April it will be one year as a home based FFL. All by myself, not hard at all. Fed part was easy, state and local part a little more work but no show stoppers. Doing OK, many transfers, some sales. People are asking me to go class III so I will in July. Thanks for talking me into doing this (still weird to have guns delivered to you front door).

    I'm sorry to see the comments about this man's suicide. I stumbled across this video today, and came into the comments to say thank you for how he treated warning people they might be working with special needs individuals. I've lived and worked with special needs people my whole life and what he did is exactly how you should treat both working with those people and telling others they might be doing the same.

    Really, commited suicide ? why, life is so cruel ? He looks pretty jolly here ! I had all the licenses, FFL, Black Powder Storage Permit, etc... When Mr. & Mrs.. Climpton got in the ATF took away my license. The excuse was I did not have a Mall storefront Business. What a crock. They took many licenses & permits away from law abiding dealerships ! I tried to fight them . Even contacted the "Great" NRA. They stonewalled me and eventually did nothing ! That is why I quit the NRA. They are a front and full of BS. All they want is your membership fe every year. After that you are nothing to them.

    You can get a FFL03 aka Curios and Relics license that will allow you to direct purchase C&R eligible weapons (Makarovs, Tokarevs, SKSs, Mosins etc). This license is designed for enhancing your own collection; doesn't include most new firearms but worth having.

    I am an ex firearms dealer. I knew this guy knew what he was talking about just by him saying FFL. I loved it when other dealers would tell me they were sending me their FFL license. I would then reply, so you are sending me your federal firearms license, license ? I would then direct them to go to their nearest ATM machine, you know, the automatic teller machine, machine. Most of them "got" it, and for some reason, never said it again.

    Very informative. It is amazing how many gun store owners don't know this information. Maybe because the four that are in my town have been around since JFK was in office or they didn't want to make it easier for more competition in the same town. But I was just looking for broad based answers to how difficult it is to get my FFL. I am not going to be a "gun dealer". I am studying to become a gun engraver. So most of my business will be simply working on other folks guns. But I'm sure that I'll also be buying some guns and engraving them and selling them.
    All I did was to call the ATF and they were extremely helpful (I must have gotten lucky in who answered the call). They gave me step by step instructions and all the forms that I needed. They even went over the "interview" process with me. But I digress.
    Thank you for posting this video and taking the time away from your business (and game play😉) to make and post this info. Bravo, Sir.

    FFL number 3 is the same application as FFL 1 and 2. The only difference is you don't have to send in a photograph of yourself and you don't have to send in the fingerprint card. But it is the same initial form. Currently as of December 2021 the application for the FFL3 is $30 FFL1 and 2 are $200 each. I know this because I'm literally sitting here filling out the forms as I watch this video.

    The "compliance form" is the catch here. In NJ getting in "compliance" is a real pain in the ass because the State does not want you to get an FFL, so they make it extremely difficult if not impossible to achieve.

  • @Criosdaidh
    @Criosdaidh 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    difference. Now if I'm ordering it for myself as an FFL even if the mark up is only 5% that puts me at 27% saved by being an FFL and ordering the firearm direct to myself. (roughly speaking). Having an FFL will save you about 10% when ordering from someone selling out of their home using their FFL. But if you look at what you could get for yourself with an FFL vs what you'd pay by walking into a store the savings do start to approach 30%, maybe higher, depending on the store/weapon.

    Be 100% sure that your locale does not have any zoning regulations that would preclude you operating your FFL from your home. In my city, I cannot have more than one other employee, no posted signage, no posted hours outside my house and no foot traffic. "By appointment only" is a valid set of hours to put on the Form 7.

    Technically a person could be saving as much as 25%, if the profit margin is 10% and they live in California where state sales tax is about 10% and they are in a big city that adds another 5% onto the sales tax like San Francisco, but that is an extreme example. I'm primarily wanting to get my FFL because I do have a lot of coworkers coming up to me for advice on guns, where to buy guns, what gun they should get, and I have some coworkers with guns, and I would like to offer them a service. Also I have built a few of my own AR15s, I'm venturing further into gunsmithing by taking some classes and I'm looking to start my own hobby business. A small discount on firearms is just a small perc.

    you can buy at Bud's gun shop on line way cheaper than the wholesale market. the only think the ffl does for you is if you live in a state like Connecticut you can purchase items that most people in the state cannot. if you live in a gun friendly state do not bother.
    go to the the Brady site if if you live in the 'F rated D rated or C rated states get your FFL

    Good info, greatly appreciated. However I would like to point out that people claiming you can save 30% are not actually all that far off. For example there's at least a couple of websites where you can get an SA XDM 9mm for 700 bucks, that's shipping and a 40 FFL fee. Or you could go to the local firearm store and pay 840 for it. That right there is a 17-18% difference in itself. Now if I didn't have to pay the FFL fee on that 700 bucks that brings my price down to around 660, or a 22%

    Btw-- in Florida you must have an occupational license and be licensed
    to do retail sales (including proper zoning) at the address you state on your
    ATF application, which is highly unlikely to be legal in most FL counties.
    If I am wrong, please be so kind to indicate the reference material that
    shows or documents that I am not correct regarding this issue. Thank you.

    However ordering from someone who sells out of their home you probably won't get robbed like you do at a pawn/sports shop and I think that's probably where the 30% figure comes into play. It's probably a "being your own store" versus buying retail comparison. I was shocked when I went searching locally for prices on that SA 9 after having browsed the internet first.

    Very informative. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I am thinking of getting a cnc set up and manufacturing firearms. The only reason I have not is that the economy is making me nervous. I don't think that it is a good time to prototype and try to market a new firearm, but I love shooting and I think I can improve on current firearms technology.

    I'm not disagreeing with your statement in the video about an only 10% markup between wholesale and retail. Maybe thats true for YOU.
    All I know is that I've bought a whole lot of brand new firearms for 40-50% less than what other stores were selling them at. And I was paying a gun store (an FFL). So they were making money too. For example, A Springfield XD for $350. (with all accessories) Most stores charge $450 -550. It was new, sealed and wasn't stripped down. Another example was $200 and selling for $325 in all other stores. Maybe these were "special buys" but you can get them all day long too. WITHOUT even having an FFL.

    Not a dick. Very useful information I'm looking into getting my license and I'm doing my homework/ research for it and I'm going to look at as many things as I can to get as much information as possible on the subject and looking forward to getting to work on firearms in the future because I'm a gun lover as well I would love to give you compitition in the field of firearms dealership and repairs and modifications to s types of firearms. Want to pass the knowledge on to my son one day years from now and hopefully he carries on the business and loves it as much as I do. thank you for the video and keep up the good work buddy. Rock on.

    So I don't need a LLC or business to get approved for FFL?
    I'm asking because the process to get a LLC seems a lot more complicated than the FFL.

    Excellent video! I had no idea how to go about it, but I was able to download all the forms while watching the video. Kingfisher county jail still uses ink to fingerprint with. I found that out first hand, or both hands actually. Throw up a partition in the garage, send off the forms and wait. I'll be a gun dealer in a couple of months. Fantastic!

    Thanx ! I'm a concealed handgun instructor and have seriously considered an FFL for the sole reason of many of my students requesting certain firearms. My paperwork is almost completed, fees are ready,...just worried because I've heard of locale problems. I live a block over from an elementary school and have no "brick and mortar" storefront just yet..

      My friend had a friend that has a ffl license and kept his guns in his attic under lock and key to get into his attic, guess what the thieves used a saw and went through his roof and stole them that way. Maybe make a basement vault or very good above standard vault that cannot be opened with a sledge and a punch pin..

  • @skat5268
    @skat5268 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would think the fingerprint situation has improved by now since silencer shops are popping up with FBI approved fingerprint kiosks. ATF is obviously accepting those. I would also add that it's too bad they don't offer some sort of license for those of us that do buy frequently. The constant 4473's and NICS checks are annoying. Considering the ATF gives you 3 years of FFL authority with no checks on your purchases or transfers, why not some kind of federal license for frequent buyers?

    *laughter* Your closing of this video was GREAT! Battlefield 3; was, and still is awesome too. It's not till recently my family has actually decided to go for the guns. I was raised in the country and it basically was second nature. My wife, though her father on occasion hunted, was anti-gun. Been married now for almost 20 years, and now she decides that it would be a gun thing to have. Problem is that I recieved a felony more than 20 years ago, would this lessen the chance of her recieving FFL?

    have cash and go buy one, you don't need a license to have one, and you don't have to register it in most states. if you want a class 3 (Full auto) you have to buy one that is tax stamped and go through a background check and a 200$ transfer fee.
