    Great video! Trains are always hit or miss on the Alton, I remember going to Coal City and seeing the daily UP Z come through and wondered why they took bnsf. definitely would be neat to see more freight traffic and isn't that bad a idea. you could hear almost 2-3 freight a day

      The problem with the Alton will always be getting across Missouri. For Chicago-Kansas City it’s longer and slower through STL, even with the improvements in IL, and that doesn’t even take into account the potential delays getting across the river. Thing is BNSF is pretty much at capacity and I’m sure would love to get rid of the UP trains. It just currently doesn’t make sense to run the Z’s through St. Louis and risk big delays so UP has to play ball in their court.
