Got the same snowmobile, never had any issues with it. Gotten stuck once and that was when a new driver flipped it over. We had to get a car and a tow line to get it back up and we struggled as fuck even with that. Went out to camp in a cabin with the viking in -33 and we left it out over the night and the next day we started it on the second or third try. It's a beast.
@FrankaDith Agreed, unless you are over minus 25 - then other rules apply, you gotta come up to the camp frank, it gets really cold there, well over minus 30 and that's not with windchill.
When I go out and away from the house I always take a propane torch and on those very cold days I take the plugs out and turn the motor over to free it up. Then heat the spark plug tip and reinstall. Works great
To be fair, after 13 years in Fairbanks Alaska, this could be any sled on the market. Ive started Skidoo's, Arctic Cat's, and Polaris in 40 below zero, they're all like that, in fact you're lucky if you don't break the starting cord from pulling on a stiff engine.
Did you stiffen up your front suspension? Or what did you do? I have a 98 xlt and it sits way lower than that and it scuffs up on everything. Please help. Love these videos too
So how u like that Viking 540? It should start easy but like u said some ice build up and have safety switch to prevent something cool! Hey, my buddy have a nice 1989 yamaha VK540 same as 2000 but color is tan and leaf spring ski. First year. Runs excellent, peppy and fast. He is selling it and it have 332 original miles! Are u interested that VK540?
I wonder how mine will start in -35°C..Ha.. I use to use mini heater under the hood before... would start right up with the key without choke and would be ready to go in 60 seconds.
When cold starting a Yamaha, the throttle should not be touched before the leveling of the RPM. Basic mistake for a beginning Yamaha driver. I can say this with over 30 years of expertise with Yamaha sleds.
I had one act up on a sled this last weekend and it would only go to 3000rpms barely enough to engage the clutch and I had to push it about 3 football fields home
A classic sled with old school looks and manual start. Love it. Makes me feel real again!

@mikejoslynjr ya, it usually starts alot easier, needs a tune up and some adjustments. that VK is awesome!

@jumpindrifts340 Yes the front is cranked right up - works great!
used to have one of these. pretty tough machine but I hated when it got stuck! soooo heavy lol
Какой колд старт в-26????? Мы его без проблем в - 45 заводим!!!
@kenneykole where is it located?
thanks for watching! Brilliant comment:)
naw it starts great, the TORRS was acting up - disconnected it and starts second pull in any weather. thanks for watching!
I used to have an old ss 440 when I lived in Alaska it had a primer and a choke. -30f and it would start after 3 pulls.
Primers all the way!

Gotta work out someway I guess! thanks for watching:)
@KYOANSHIKI1 yes i agree - that is next.
The carb was dirty and the TORS was not working right - it starts better now.

@KYOANSHIKI1 good idea!
@lshobie but 27 and you know you have an issue.

My back is soar just watching

lol, yup it is funny how we all do that!
I think the 1st guy loosened it up for ya ☺
Install a primer and the VK540 will fire first pull at minus 45
My '95 phaser always started in 2.5 pulls
tf you do half pulls?

That kinda goes with my 1997 Polaris 700 indy lol because its a triple you really cant touch the throttle before it warms up
I start my 94' Phazer 2 with about 1/4 throttle and it starts one pull every time
Cody6210 my '95 Phazer was the same way ...always started with ease no matter how cold it was
58hanski Yep flip the choke and just keep pulling!
My phazer if it’s below 27 you have to sit and hold the gas for a min so it can get going
I never liked the t.o.r.s. on yammys, from what I've experienced it just causes more of a hassle.
Yah those TORS systems are a real pain in the rear sometimes
yup!
I had one act up on a sled this last weekend and it would only go to 3000rpms barely enough to engage the clutch and I had to push it about 3 football fields home
atleast u get warm before u start to drive...
my lynx xtrim 900 ace starts on -40
That's quite a workout. I suppose you don't need any gym membership.
