If you want the battery nuts to stop falling out, cut a 1/4" long piece of silicone tubing. Heat it up so it's soft and stretch it over the terminals. Keeps the nuts from falling out, but only works for top mount cables. For side mount, get a smaller piece of hose and squish it behind the battery nuts.
Hey Louie. I have a question about the 540 480 and 440 engines in the older Yamahas. They are the only engines I have ever heard that have the unique wine to them. Do you know why. Also don’t you have a VK with a 1000 4 stroke?
@@philipgagne1852 it could be the pulley ratio. vk is used as a workhorse so it might have different sized pulleys to get the fan to spin faster at lower rpms to keep the motor colder when pulling heavy loads
Love your videos. So helpful. Wondering if you can post a video of chaincase maintenance on the VK540. My 1999 VK won't go into low from reverse. As soon as the RPM goes to high, it disengages. Thanks!

Great video. I just picked up a ‘93 and would like to stud the track. Did you end up studding this one and if so what studs and how many did you go with? Thanks.

the vk540 is a good machine just not supposed to be used the way how most snowmobile's are as in it is too heavy to do a wheelie my primary snowmobile is a yamaha bravo long track 1982 which i broke the steering shaft on yesterday since i ran out of gas and had to be towed
The struggle with those stupid battery nuts is real. How have they not fixed that yet? Also…. As I get older, electric start can’t be under stated. Reverse too for that matter. How awesome.
2 of the best ol sleds right there. Grew up on a 2000 VK540 and you really learn to flip weight on a sled when you are 13 and goes powerline ditching with a VK. Now a 35yearold guy wants a vk buy they are getting expensive here beq EU rules prevents the 540cc to be sold in europe anymore so no new vks here

You would expect a high end snowmobile mechanic to properly winterize your sled but instead he just sits then where he used them last and he lets them sit there all year not a good sled owner that's forsure Louis if your see this I love you videos but man learn to tarp and lift your sleds off the ground that's why everything is stuck the Clutch is stuck and other things are stuck, more things you fuck up more if you store them outside with no tarp
Ill be the first to agree with you...the problem is...and I hate making excuses....my intention was to have a new building or trailer to store them in by mid summer but that plan failed because I couldn't afford one with my new shop. Gotta love some of them old dependable fan cooled engines.
I do like them the most thats for sure.
Gotta love the old pogo stick suspension. It'll be a workhouse around the place.
Oh ya for sure.
Stick a foam ear plug under the nut so it stays in place.
Good plan!! I use a piece of paper towel and do the same.. for an extra 5c you think they'd put a little tab on the nut so it can't move

Ok but my Enticer 2 410 doesn’t make that sound. Same with the 340 Enticer trapper. Weird
