This engine has a soul that no EV will ever have. I rebuilt my first Chrysler big block back when I was 20 years old. Closing in on 63 now.

It just never gets old watching Nick run engines up on the Dyno. I think my heart rate went up like the RPMs on that engine did. I get excited every time. it's just incredible.

This client was the most impressed, optimistic and appreciative one I have seen on your dyno testing. That 440 is a healthy one making 436 hp and over 500 ft-lb with those restrictive exhaust manifolds and with a relatively mild hydraulic camshaft which will make this a very streetable and reliable powerful combination. Just with the addition of a set of good 1-7/8" primary tube headers, this engine will most likely make over 460 hp. and will be a handful with street tires and an easy mid-low12 second performer on the dragstrip.

Only exceeded by driving a 5 speed or a 6 speed manual trans. And preferably when there's no cops around.

My 440 + 6 was the first engine I ever built. One thing I had a problem with was in the summer, it would vapor lock sometimes. I had my friend, Ron in 552 EMS Sheet Metal Shop made some aluminum heat riser block off plates for it. Night and day difference!!! Felt like I picked up 30 hp, no more vapor lock. Draw back was winter start up required playing with a manual choke for a half hour before it would hold a proper idle. Well worth it for the power gain. I was known as the Black guy with the purple car, ( dark burgundy '70 Cuda 383 car with a 440 in it ) in Oklahoma. We used to race behind the GM Plant behind Tinker AFB, where I was stationed in the early '80s.

Well Nick you did it again! Makes me feel bad that I sold off all my vintage Chevrolet parts. I had a building full at one time. Much like you and Mopars I could make those Chevy's scream. I shoehorned a BB 427 into a "56 Vette. What I did to that poor car was a crime in today's book. But in my defense in the late 60's a 56-57 Vette (they are hard to tell apart) could be purchased for $600 and a complete 4 bolt main, open chambered headed 427 could be bought for the $500 range. You had to completely cut out the fender wells and fabricate front motor mounts. The first time I got on it hard, really hard the rear went out from under the car as the spring wrap even with the factory bars was amazing. i was told that the Vette's exhaust flames came out the rear some 3 feet. I know you did not dare have anything loose in the passenger area as it went out the back of the car if the top was down. Keep the vids coming they're great!!!!!

    Giasou Nikola,
Sorry for taking so long to comment but life has been so hectic & summer is just about here.
This Saturday, Melbourne is finally going to hit 30 degree day can't wait.
For Stefan I totally totally get it.
You think about it, life is so short here 1 minute gone the next.
Personally I have had 3 close friends under the age of 60 die in the last 4 weeks.
You work hard all your life, do the right thing by society & family, pay your taxes & now it is time especially if you are a working class man to enjoy your life.
Stefan is doing that, money means nothing when you want to live your dream.
The enjoyment Stefan will experience is priceless, and I am so happy to be along for the trip & for everyone involved making Stefan's dream come true.
It is about enjoying life, & that is what driving a muscle car does makes you feel young again & enjoy life.
    Great video.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia

I have heard of a lot of people lately having flat tappet cam failures on break in. You should do a video on flat tappet cam break in including what parts you use. I just built the same engine. 1970 440-6. I too am running manifolds. But I have a 484 purple shaft cam, aluminum heads and 7 qt. oil pan. I have not ran my engine yet. But it leaves me hope of maybe making 450 hp. I rebuilt the 3 2bbls. myself. But I will start it with a 4bbl. carb. Then if all goes well. I will install the 6 barrel. It will be installed in a 70 GTX with an air grabber. I really enjoyed the video.

Absolutely amazing. If only I could find someone with the same passion, dedication and expertise, to redo my L79 Chevrolet Corvette engine. The car is essentially "original" with only 35k on the car. The outcome would surely justify the costs. Ahhhha....I can dream can't I! Well done Nick! You are definitely a rare breed! Very impressed! Well done!! (Outstanding!)

Wow, another L79 owner!!! I rebuilt mine 20 years ago and Ill share my recipe. Lower the compression ratio by using a set of World Products large chamber heads. I can run 87 octane fuel. A long duration hydraulic roller cam, HEI distributor and headers. It is a beast!!! I wish I could tell you to drop it off and I'd build it, but I'm almost 70 and I don't think I could. Good luck, thats a great engine.

@@joemuncie9187 did you miss the part about "original"? Am considering NCRS judging, not restomoding. Anybody can rebuild/build an engine to perform. I want/need someone with the knowledge and passion to the original engine preform as it originally did! And yes...the L79 is an iconic engine!

The great thing about these 60’s-70’s engines is they are comparatively simple. Todays engines area nightmare of complexity.
