@budokichigai - WKF is the largest shotokan organization in the World. Luca Valdesi is four time world champion in individual kata. He is not so young after all, he is 36. Even though we can argue about incomplete moves, he is still the best. He is not rapid, but brisk, dynamic, fluid and focused. If you imply that this is not proper, you have to post video of someone from any school to show more proper or better performed kata. Oss
Wow! This is a great kata. Does anyone have the video of his UNSU in Belgrade? It was the best Kata I've ever seen - and I'm not the type of person to get excited by a kata.
The best thing about Luca's kata is his speed and I reckon that's quite important in Empi. Excellent jump too. He's a brilliant karateka so far as sport karate and tournaments go, but I'm not too sure about his actual fighting skills and frankly, who cares?! Good one Jesse :) (This is warrioress from the blog)
Rapid movements do not make a kata. He stops short in his kosa-dachi and his jodan punch/grasps are incomplete. Yes, I said it. Believe me, I am being objective, as he has never done anything to hurt me. I don't know this young man, but I would love to meet him someday. He has talent and he's obviously good at what he does, but does that means he is good? I notice that people are too quick to heap accolades on someone just because he or she performs a kata aesthetically, instead of properly.
@Aveiro29 the people loves him becasuse of his charisma, but the judges loves him becasuse of his fightings techniques, not for clear techniques, not because for his high jump or something similar!
@shotokankjs FIrst of all; notice that this competition karate. NOT traditional. I have trained with him, and he is completely out of this world. It's ok if you don't like his style, but please; be more polite and constructive. Anyhow, why don't you post a video of yourself and your yellowbelts? Then we'll see. Big mouth, let's see how you do it.
Think its amazing how people complain.. because real Budo teaches us to to hide behind our computers and complain about others.. and i´m being sarcastic if i have to point it out. Why not accept Sensei Valdesi for the practitioner he is? are u better? would you win over him in a wkf kata match? probably not so show him som fuckin respect people!
Respect??! People like him have taken Karate-Do & turned it into a HOLLYWOOD SPECTACLE. Seriously? I know MEN from Venezuela, The Dominican Republic, Honduras, Belize, U.K, U.S.A, S.Africa, Canada, Japan & Germany that would WIPE THE FLOOR with this individual in BOTH Kata & Kumite. They just refuse to compete because of the silly politics.I DON'T BLAME THEM. He has no hikite, WAZA, nothing. Just a showman. Nothing more. As a person, I'd respect him. As a Martial Artist, that's a hands-down no.
I once saw a UFC match where one of the opponent put one of his knees on the floor becouse then his opponent wasn´t allowed to kick him. My point is that many elite practitioners train and compete to win "buy the rules". Yes maybe his technique is a bit sloppy sometimes but he wins. I think the way that some talk about him is disrespectful and not a Budo way att all.. I dont really like or agree with where the competion is heading, least of all with bunkai in team kata, Its not functional enough
I couldn't have said it better myself Oni-san :) Sad where Karate-Do is going now. Commercialized & ran by a group of people who don't understand the ESSENCE of the way. OUSU!!
The economy of movements in KATA makes it very hard, almost impossible, to perform it like flowing water. Yang style Tai Chi would come close to that where the martial applications are obscured by large circular arm movements performed slowly, like swimming on land.
Ciao
@shotokankjs When I start to treat karate seriously? If you knew who I am, you would never say such a thing. Trust me. But this isn't a place for childish bragging anyway. I saw your katas on your channel. You are not bad, but you still have a long way to go. You have no hip movements compared to Valdesi. And if you really am an international judge, I feel sorry for you. I mean, there must be a reason why people love him and why he is winning almost every contest.
@xxXSakuraxxHoshiXxx Trust me u don't wanna be like him... he has too many mistakes... i do too but Luca Valdesi looks for any excuse to look for speed... he even modifies his embusen to end at the same place...
@Aveiro29 Also dont expect me to be polite at all about this. The whole mcdojo scene has me pretty pissed. When you start to treat karate seriously we can talk.
@shotokanshdn yo brah don't bother trying to speak reason to these people they won't take it they don't want to be wrong i just experenced that on another video but yeah don't trip just do what you do.
Oni-san...with all due respect, it's not about the amount of wins, it's about HOW he wins. You MUST compete at 100% every time...ESPECIALLY at his level. No room for sloppiness. Even on your "off" day. These "rules" and the silly politics (which by the way includes racism...sad to say..but true) is what's destroying Nippon Bujutsu today. Too many rules that make no sense, and takes away the essence of the systems.
(cont.) UFC isn't even really legit anyways, because their tournament style is a watered-down version to orthodox tournaments. People like Thomas "LaPuppet" Carol Sensei, Sifu Ed Parker, Enoeda Keinosuke Sensei, Demura Fumio Sensei, just to name a few. These MEN competed in REAL, HARD-CORE orthodox tournaments where striking on the ground, knees, elbows & submissions were allowed. Even the Kata competition had high standards (unlike today). Luca Valdesi couldn't place those tournaments at all.
His speed is really great! I loved this!
finally a guy who understands me..! you're so right! thumbs up
Me encanta!!! Luca, you are the best!

Amazing power and speed!

gostei muito desse kata empi parabens
@shotokankjs i see, you are the 10th dan grandmaster of karate, right?

he is the best!!! :3
Brilliant
can you tell me where can I see an excellent kata? because I only read bad comments about this preformance...
please..
the best
THis is a good break from the usual lack-lustre movements previously seen in some wkf vids. As expected of a world champ.
I will be doing this at my tournament tomorrow if i pass the first round ."/

i thought that this performance was better than his gojushiho sho.
It's Traditionally called Enpi but when you say it. It sounds like Empi
Where do you train Don?
Jesus this guy has so many haters. Stop judging and appreciate. Appreciate his focus, his speed, his athleticism, and his power.
@Aveiro29 the people loves him becasuse of his charisma, but the judges loves him becasuse of his fightings techniques, not for clear techniques, not because for his high jump or something similar!
que firmeza do karalho...
Ele nunk leva a mão à cintura!
1:39 he is makeing " tate shuto" ... but the correct form is shuto-uke
if you think that Valdesi isn't one of the best in the world....change sports.

Very mechanical.....kata should be like flowing water. Kawasoe sensei says...accomplish every technique.
The economy of movements in KATA makes it very hard, almost impossible, to perform it like flowing water.

whoa nelly why so fast and the long pauses? plus he is not showing the movement trying to rely on too much speed and power not a good empi
@xxXSakuraxxHoshiXxx Trust me u don't wanna be like him... he has too many mistakes... i do too but Luca Valdesi looks for any excuse to look for speed... he even modifies his embusen to end at the same place...

how modern times are, you eat good looking food which is in fact crap
@shotokanshdn If you dont like WTF, stay in your JKA and leave them alone. They're not going to your JKA videos to say shit about it.
@shotokanshdn yo brah don't bother trying to speak reason to these people they won't take it they don't want to be wrong i just experenced that on another video but yeah don't trip just do what you do.
a whole lot of haters around here...

Ma quindi tutti quelli che dicono che sto katà fa pena li vedrò in quale campionato del mondo ? no per sapere....
Show him you can do better then we''ll name you the CHAMP.
num ta bom não
Ain't perfect jump :(
booooo
The jump is the only thing good in his kata, his jump is good but the rest not...
The yellow belts in my dojo have better tsuki and uke waza than him.
He has no kime. WORLD CHAMPION? more like flash champion.
