I grew up in the Detroit neighborhood where the original Buddy's is located (Conant & McNichols). I've known about the great pizza since the mid-60s. Haven't been to that location in a while, but I can recommend a different place with similar pizza. In Hazel Park just north of Detroit, "Loui's" (

I live within walking distance of a Buddy's. My son missed the pizza so much when he moved to Japan, that I brought him a whole Buddy's pizza the 3 times I went there to visit. I have a video on my channel about it. Just search Japan, or pizza. It's THAT good.

Welcome to Michigan Ken! I wanted to recommend Faygo pop (soda) to go with that pizza and cheese bread. It’s a Detroit original with a ton a different flavors. If you can find the bomb pop or Dreamin (orange creamsicle) grab them!
They have Buddys pizza is the frozen section at the local grocery stores too if you want to take them home.
Also, we do need a White Castle 24 hour stealth camp.

Those May flies (June bugs, fish flies) are a naissance around the vicinity of Lake St. Clair this time of year. They are attracted to light at dusk and into nighttime so many businesses turn down their lights or even off to deter them from swarming around and sticking to windows and sidewalks. This is the reason Buddy's appeared to be closed when you arrived.

I loved the music serenade in the beginning. It was so much fun to watch! Buddy's pizza looks delicious. Next time we are in Michigan, we will definitely be trying it. We usually go to Jet's pizza, but Buddy's looks so much better.

The city limit of Chesterfield is kinda wonky. You're right on the cusp of New Baltimore and Chesterfield. There's a taco bell in New Baltimore and one in Chesterfield, but the locations listed in the website have them backwards lol

I live in Phoenix now and used to work for a rocket fast mortgage company (hint hint ;) ) based in Detroit. The company used to order in Jet’s pizza and they have locations here in PHX too so that’s what I’ve had for most of my Detroit style pizza. Haven’t had it in a while, even Pizza Hut has an attempt at Detroit style, but the others haven’t been as good as Jets, and they are opening a location about half mile from my house in Peoria AZ! Can’t wait, the now hiring sign just went up recently in front of the location, so it’s getting close!
Will have to try Buddys eventually when I can. It looks good as well.
I ate at that location last year with a friend and she passed away a few months after. It brought tears to my eyes thinking about her. Anyways, now you've tried Buddy 's you must have cloverleaf. It's where the pizza started. They were family owned but split and the pizza recipe was taken to buddy's. Enjoy and welcome to Michigan!

You need to give Windsor Style Pizza a try on your channel. There are a lot of pizza places in Windsor Ontario that are Mom and Pop shops with great pizza. Someone even made a documentary about Windsor pizza

We have Jet’s Pizza where I live and it is Detroit style too, it looks just like Buddy’s. It’s my favorite pizza and now I am craving it…lol.
It always seems a little amazing to me that you can go from Canada to the USA in less time than it takes to get a third of the way from east Texas to west Texas. I will say though that you find some pretty amazing food when traveling my home state. Good pizza is always worth the drive🍕🍕🍕

I think the original Buddy's is in Detroit actually. My fiancee worked in Detroit for about 6 months in 2021 and every week I'd drive up from Kentucky to see her and we'd get Buddy's Pizza from the OG location at least once every week.

Fun fact, Buddy's is one of the original Detroit-style pizza joints, from the 1940's.

Instead of going to the true original buddies pizzas locations on conut Street in Detroit u went to a franchised store so its truly not the same experience as the first and orginal location in the heart of Detroit

Funny about the Coney Island mention. They're known for Coney Dogs, but otherwise are essentially diners. So the people going there in the morning were probably there for breakfast. Coney Island breakfasts are pretty good. (Though I wouldn't put it past some people to have a couple coneys for breakfast.)

Buddy’s is the McDonald’s of Detroit pizza. And bigby coffee is average coffee shop. It’s a Michigan franchise and my uncle owned one in Troy. He sold it in 2 years because corp is horrible. I stopped giving them any business. They wouldn’t reimburse corp coupons properly and the franchisee was losing money on coupon drinks. Horrible
