Fun fact: This game obviously takes place in Japan and in the entrance area, there’s a separated area on the ground that’s a different pattern as well as flooring called “genkan” that’s actually considered public property rather than private grounds and in Japanese culture serves as the pre-step before actually entering the living quarters of someone! It’s where you can take off your shoes or put them back on upon arriving/leaving. The Genkan can and will be used by delivery people even unprompted and if you’re not used to it, it’ll give you one or the other real good spook :D Also, the word “Aniki” is Japanese and means “older brother” or “big brother” :)
Old video, i know, but i want to say a word about it. I think the dev had a really good idea for this game but wasted too much time needed for the development because he wanted to insert this story and narrative that really is not good. This game did not need a story. "The windows and the entrance are walled up, you cannot leave and suddenly the breaker goes off" and then make the player check things in the house while they have to survive x nights. This would have been more than enough. Other than that, the game really needed just a way a little more clear to know when is safe to hide during chase, a way to peek from all the hiding spots and a bit of debugging for the interactions of hiding spots, the collision outside the house and the intruder's ability to see you through walls sometimes. It is almost a little indie gem. Almost, unfortunatelly. But i'm curious to see if after two years the dev changed something :)
The saddest thing is the Grudge Girl is just there to help you out but the Dark Side Intruders were too op. Theory: This house has a negative feeling about it and attracts strange people in the neighborhood which helps cause stress to the residents. One of the Original residents was the girl and died a tragic death. She ends up trying to play and help the newer residents but her appearance only horrifies and scares people further into madness. The hatch is presumably where she was murdered and hidden away but now each person with a "dark" personality ends up nesting there and messing with each new resident moving in. Or everyone here is your family and you're all just a bunch of wackos

A very old but very good game that I think you would like: "Lighthouse: the Dark Being" by Sierra. It's a point&click game that came out 1 year before Myst and has some same puzzle elements, but also disturbing humanoids that give it more of a horror feel. There are also multiple endings and I think you would really like it. If you play it and get stuck, let me know and I can help, as I got to 3 endings. One thing I can recommend is to save often.
