I’m the owner of a trucking company in Quebec and I have trucks in Toronto daily. My husband is a long distance lorry driver, I know those trailers are almost impossible to remove from the cab without the driver knowing, it's an inside job by someone who knows of matt

some companies have it in their contract that they are liable but for a larger price
if a customer decides on not taking that contract it's down to them to have some contingencies in case of theft

I hate to tell you, but it most likely was not “stolen”. They have probably kept it to sell the contents. My husband & I went thru hell in 2018 using a moving company. They wound up holding our stuff hostage until we paid them almost 3x what they originally quoted. After researching that predicament, it turns out that the moving industry in the US does not have any oversight & regulation, so these unlawful moving companies & their practices are running rampant! I WILL NEVER HIRE A LONG DISTANCE MOVING COMPANY AGAIN. I am so sorry for what you’re going thru...I know the pain, frustration and disbelief. God bless you

A lot of people are looking at this from monetary perspective, but what is more devastating is the sentimental value of his items, pictures, items with history, gifts, precious items etc, those are priceless.

Moving companies have liability insurance make sure to lawyer up and take everything on their policy.

That is if this company has liability insurance. Mathew didn't say that insurance will cover his loss. It isn't the same though. Sentimental value can't be replaced.

I feel for you. I live in a storage room on top of a building in the ghetto. I live on disabilty and its 10 days till i get a check. I have a can of tuna, some food for the cat but no money. Its freezing cold here and ive got a couple blankets. All i really care about is that my cats eat. I have no family and a couple people who i see sometimes. I know its hard, i remember when i lost my stuff cause i couldnt pay storage. Hang in man, you still got ypur soul...i feed the street cats when i can....my cats sleep with me on a plank with a bean bag. Its all good....id would rather starve then let my cats be hungry, the are sinless and i am not.

I've lost everything in a house fire a few years ago. It's hard and sometimes you find yourself looking for an item and then it dawns on you that it's gone. I feel for you. I really hope your items get found.

This just brings tears to my eyes. My heart breaks for you. I’ve lost everything I owned a couple of times myself under different circumstances and I know the devastating feeling well. Personal mementos are the hardest to lose. The rest you just get to get all new and sometimes that’s a great thing. A fresh start, but never heals that feeling of loss and violation. Yes the moving company’s insurance should cover everything. Making a list of all the contents is the most difficult part. You can’t do it in one sitting. The more you talk about it the more things you’ll remember to add to your list. Thankfully you have videos showing your things in the background which will help prove what you have to replace. So #1) Keep a notebook handy and jot down the items as they come to mind. #2) Go on Craigslist, OfferUp, Facebook market and every other seeking website you can think of and search for those items and have notifications sent to you every time something similar is posted. If you can find even one of your items listed on a website you’ll have a good chance of finding most of the rest and the person who stole them. The moving company’s insurance will be highly motivated in getting back what they can and getting the criminals charged. Good publicity for them, but you and your friends and devoted members will have to do the hours of searching. Law enforcement won’t be off much help unless this is happening a lot in their jurisdiction. Also if you have pictures of some of the more unique items, use google lens! If it’s out there on the web for sell google Lens is your best shot as it searches everywhere! I’m so sorry this happened. Post a video of items so we can all help look.

this just came in my recommended videos. im so sorry that happened to you & i hope your stuff was found. the same thing happened to me but i was in a building that caught on fire, & they refused to allow us back in to get our stuff, even tho the fire wasnt on our floor. i hardly got anything back. this was last year & i still pray to this day that i can still somehow get my stuff back. i know how you feel. i get so attached to my stuff too
It bothers me when people say, "It's just stuff that can be replaced." Yeah, it can, but you worked hard for it. It's stuff you paid for. Just because it's "stuff" doesn't give someone else a right to take it away. And some of that "stuff" is sentimental. I hope things will work out for you in the end.
This! Yes, you can buy a new couch and a new bed and a new rug. Sure. Annoying as hell and expensive and it sucks. But what about all the heirlooms? Pictures? Important documents...insurances, contracts, birth certificate, work related stuff, degrees / certificates... You can't just go to Ikea and replace it.

Here's a weird idea. The internet is sometimes a big help. Track the stuff down. Someone either saw or heard something. You have the best team to investigate (eyes everywhere). We have your back here. Stay strong Matt.
That could actually work a singer of a band I like had a trailer stolen too and most of his guitars were in it, some fans later seen his guitars up for sale on the web and they tracked it back and he ended up getting his stuff back , Chevelle was the band

Suing the company is the best option. Getting lawyers involve is good. This company broke all the business laws as there is. The company is screwed at this point. Don't worry sir everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok. Then it's not the end
Edit : The broken law in THEFT by FALSE PROMISES established in between 1939-1949 The promise is for this service company to deliver the property of the contract owner to the destination that is stated.
Problem is they usually make you sign a waiver which limits liability unless you take insurance. I have watched a thousand of these cases on The Peoples Court and Judge Judy. It sucks but before you let a moving company leave, make sure you take insurance.

Not everything is about suing the company. It’s not the company’s fault that his stuff got stolen. If they do catch the guys who stole his stuff then he’ll probably press charges.

When I moved about 2 years ago I hired a moving company to move all my stuff. And they kept it in “storage” over the weekend which was fine since I was gonna road trip to my new living spot. And we were going to meet up on Monday. And when we did suspiciously all my valuable items were “lost in transit” I hired a lawyer and a private investigator and lord behold we got a warrant for video footage. A new employee they hired stole all my stuff and the manager knew because they were going to split the profit. The security “got the day off” a huge ordeal came out of it and I was compensated for my stuff and emotional damage done. Keep your head up Matt I love your videos. The sun will shine again!

I had the same thing but not exactly happen to me from friends and some really bad company. Your story is worse but I rly hope u find ur stuff it really burns my heart every time I remember my stuff. I wish I had kept them in storage but seem like that wouldn't have stopped it these days. And I can't imagine how u feel, it always happens to good people.... We lose materialistic things the most even though we take good care of them. Maybe it's a lesson to teach us to let go of materialistic things but I rly feel sorry and hope u retrieve ur things and I look forward to more videos on this topic cause I still have a hard time dealing with my loss.
Bruh life is tough. I know my frustration maybe a little less than this extent but my fiancee and I moved across the country with a planned destination and as we were halfway enroute, the apartment fell through due to a clerical error so we ended up spending 3 months on camping air mattresses in my mother-in-laws entryway and finding odd jobs to finally set things up far far from home and pretty far from our goal but despite how much this sucks you have to keep pushing forward. the moving company is liable. I suggest like many others have, to talk to a lawyer about your options.
The only issue there is that most "Moving companies" aren't necessarily full fledged businesses.. most are folks who buy load bearing trucks/trailers and do it as a side hustle and stamp a name on the "business" so hopefully the company he used has a license and has some sort of liquid assets and insurance. If not... well it could get ugly.

This is a horrible thing to go through. I know exactly what you are going through as i had something similar. I can tell you how you view it makes a huge difference. It is so hard but if you can, try to look at it as a new opportunity. I ended up getting my stuff back almost a year later and hated it because i had started over and was trying to live more minimalistic and my old stuff ended up overwhelming me. You can get through this and come out better for it. Definitely file claims with the company's insurance. I didn't have that choice to fall back on so at least you do and it can help with the costs. Hopefully it will make your bounce back faster too. Good luck!

Matt, you are an incredibly strong and sweet person; and while this is a terrible thing to experience, we all believe in you and want you to know we'll wait as long as necessary for your new vids. While it's mostly in the hands of the authorities right now, I've put together a few steps you should take (if you haven't already). And again, you did not deserve this and you have countless people on your side.
1). Make a detailed list of everything you had transported.
Try to type out a list of everything in that trailer- be sure to include brand names and initial purchase prices if you can remember them. This is where your videos and such might come in handy- look through them and any photos on your laptop/phone to see what brands and styles of items (eg. your TV) that you had. If you have any friends or family who may have taken photos at your place, ask them to send copies to you.
The more evidence, the better- anything you can find (receipts, warranties, etc.) to help prove what was taken is good. You may even be able to contact the place you purchased some of the items if you used a credit card or personal check- especially for rare items like your studio equipment.
2). Make a second list and keep the receipts of any 'incidental' purchases due to this crime.
For example; if you have to buy new beds for your cats, or an air mattress for yourself, those are all things that you may be able to get remunerated for in court. Damages may also include things like extra gas money and mileage spent visiting police stations/court/the mover's offices. Be sure to include whatever you think might be relevant- again, you did nothing to warrant this, and you should be compensated for this major breach of contract.
3). Contact any and every agency you think may be able to help.
I'm not totally familiar with the Canadian legal system, but given the total amount of items stolen and the fact that it was an international transport... this is probably a very serious crime in the eyes of your judicial system. At the very least, you may want to consider contacting the following people/entities:
-Local police (the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre is limited right now due to COVID, and they ask that citizens contact local police first).
-The moving company themselves (ask for an e-mail copy of the police report filed on the missing vehicle; if they can't offer that, you know something's doubly fishy here).
-Your homeowner's insurance company (if you have one, certain items may be covered)
-Your credit card company (assuming you paid for the service using one, they may be able to halt the fund transfer or at least make a note of possible fraud. Consider filing a chargeback if the moving company refuses to help later on)
4). Spend some time with your kitties, call a good friend/family member, and maybe watch a few funny videos online.
Take a deep breath, and know that every person who watches your content is rooting for you. You've overcome some major challenges before, and while this surely sucks; you are definitely capable of handling it in the best manner possible.

They can say whatever they want doesn't mean they can't be sued or what they say is legal. I bet their gonna mysteriously find his trailer and stuff as it was never stolen. Their gonna claim they just made a mistake, they just wanted to F with him for some reason. The other thing is they have insurance and care less about losing trailers. Either way this is really ridiculous. The only other thing I can possibly think of is the driver just up and quit on them and left the trailer unattended. Can't believe he doesn't either win his case or get his stuff back.

I agree he should be gungho on this as its his life in boxes. And his lively hood thats been taken.
The company may take full responsibility and law enforcement might track the trailer and get his stuff back.
But if he quickfires and goes lawyer first then the company wont be in the mindset to help.
Though once everything is done with. Be it that they co-operate and get his stuff back. Or the opposite.
Eventually Matt will let the world know what company it is.
And they will lose a lot of buisness.
I for one will share the company name if and when Matt lets us know. So that if there are other branches of said company. They too will feel what its like to lose everything.

Every moving company has insurance for stuff like this. They are legally required when handling other people's belongings. If it was actually stolen he gets the full tag-value of every single item that was stolen. Tag-value for year old worn shoes and shirts and used beds and camera equipment. This guy is making a mint. I'd be happy as hell if all my stuff was stolen except for my computer and phone.
This LITERALLY happened to me last year I moved to Colorado with my truck loaded down with everything I was moving out there and I too was robbed they took my truck and EVERYTHING I owned with it. I understand you're pain matt and I know its going to be difficult I personally lived for 7 months out of a bag of clothes and managed to make it work. I feel your pain. My husband and our 2 young kids had our rental house sold at tax sale so we had to move out FAST. We put EVERYTHING in storage and they ACCIDENTALLY sold it at auction eventhough we made our payments! EVERYTHING was in that storage building. All sentimental things from both pregnancies the few things I had left of my deceased mom EVERYTHING! Kids have no clothes or toys and we r still living in a hotel room because we have no way to furnish a home and keep paying the hotel bill plus put money down for rent and deposit on something else. So I really feel your pain!
Did they at least offer to reimburse you? My sister and her husband rented a storage locker and when they went to get their stuff the lock was changed (even though they always kept with the payments. The owner claimed he got it mixed up with someone else who had the same last name. They arrived just in time though since the auction was for later that day.

I worked for a moving company and they absolutely have insurance. This is 100% on them. They are responsible for the security of his stuff.

I can totally relate to your situation when losing all your belongings that you've spend years investing hard earned money into. Even the little belongings we have that were stolen comes to mind. All the little memories and important ones too. Weird how objects have certain importance to us no matter how little they are. It becomes more apparent when they're lost. The outcome is uncertain but you remain strong and see things from a better perspective in a very bad situation. this happened to me too! contact the DOT. They helped me get all my stuff back. At minimum you can form an official complaint and sue.

And second. How the hell thay can't track their truck? Every moving company has tracker in their trucks if client want to know localization of stuff and removing or turning off tracker isn's so easy. I have feeling that company was actually some scam and stole his stuff.

@@northeastfloridasoftwash6600 Let me say this clearer. Moving companies ALWAYS have trackers in the trailers so they can easily track them if something like this happen. And trackers aren't so easy to turn off or remove without turning on alarm. So even if the truck was stolen, company still should track it and get stuff back. And company smells fishy af, they overcharged him and now they lost track. Whole company is probably some shady company or scam or drivers did some shady action with stealing Mathew's stuff.

Dude I’ve heard of this scam! The moving company says your stuff was stolen but in reality they took your stuff. Make sure to get in touch with police in your home area as well as where this company is headquartered at!!!

It has been happening for a long time. I've known people who had their stuff "stolen" only to find it being used at the moving company offices (like couches, TVs, etc.).
It happened to one of my family members.

Especially since he might not be the first person this happened to. Also, it's possible that they themselves might be the thieves! My brother once had a suit of armor go missing on his way to an historical recreation event. He hollared about it till the airline responsible investigated and found that some of their employees had their own warehouse where they stashed any interesting swag they came across while handling people's luggage.

@@user-wq6bf4sv2t this nonsense happens all the time in every major airport. They hire a bunch of low paid workers and give them direct access to all checked luggage. It's extremely easy for someone with an ID badge to steal whatever they want during "random inspections"

taking them to court is the smart thing here, you dont just lose a big trailer full of things.
Fr, to some people court might seem petty but in the end his whole life was in the moving company’s possession therefore their responsibility.
100% a trailer like that getting stolen doesn’t happen very often, rarely, but if he is able to take them to court he would have a very good case against that company, and if the court rules in his favour, he could get money to start building his life up again. I think it’s a smart idea
He should definitely take legal action the company should have issrance to cover theft or damage. And actually it does happen frequently. Recently there have been more trucks/ merchandise being stolen.
Also I'm a trucker so I hear more about these incidents than the average person.
