God, this movie is probably the first time ever that I literally couldn't even get through the whole trailer without literally looking away from the screen and turning the sound off.
It took me like five days to realize that Vacation was a remake, because they didn't have the "National Lampoon's" prefix attached to it. But when I finally realized it, my mouth dropped open in abject horror. I didn't see the original, since I was turned off by the series when I caught bits of Vegas Vacation on TV that one time (I saw European Vacation as a kid, don't really remember it), but even I know that the original and Christmas Vacation are basically untouchable comedy classics.
Why didn't they just have Anthony Michael Hall play the lead aka Rusty, since he was Rusty in the first flick (and he did a good job in stuff like The Dead Zone TV Series...as well as films in the past like Weird Science and The Breakfast Club)? It's not like Ed Helms is a 'big name that would sell tickets.'
I think this movie suffers mostly from this generation's most used form of comedy: dialogue. Too many comedies today focus too much on having weird, awkward conversations and reactions that are supposed to equal comedy. Michael Cera made it popular and everyone else jumped aboard the ship...
I saw a trailer for this, thought it was a horror movie. Saw a second trailer, still looked like a horror movie. Saw a third trailer, wait this is a comedy?!?
I'm sure you'll have a bunch of people telling you this, but let me explain the John Green thing. John and his brother Hank have been video blogging on TH-cam for years and years, and the people on the community that surrounds them are called the "nerdfighters." They call the community "nerdfighteria" and refer to it affectionately as their hometown. The motto of nerdfighteria is "Don't Forget To Be Awesome," a long standing thing in their videos as a kind of reminder to always try your best to be a good person. They throw John Green in front of the movie, and into all the publicity stuff because of his large online following. He really had almost nothing to do with the movie other than being on set a lot.
about the john green thin: it was probably "dont forget to be awesome" and its from his youtube channel with his brother "vlogbrothers" . it's... basically an injoke for those of us who watch his vlogs. youre right he absolutely is a huge energetic ball of. well... I love him. He acts like that all the time though
John Green is from Indiana. He runs a network called the Nerdfighters. He runs vlogs about current events and the like. That 'don't forget to be awesome' thing is a reference to that, as well as a catchphrase amongst him and the Nerdfighters. He is kind of a teenager stuck in an adult's body, and that's the vibe i get when I read his books.
Why has comedy moved away from people saying witty things we laugh at with them, thinking 'they're right and I wish I could be that precise and fun', to people having shit happen to them and us laughing at them, and thinking, 'what losers, my life might not be special, but there's is awful!'. We've got no comedy gods to learn from, just people to sneer at.
Brad does this thing where he brings his drink up to his mouth and then he continues talking with it right in front of his mouth and then he sets it down and then he talks some more and then he drinks it. It's not a bad thing by any means, it's just a cute quirk I've noticed.
Way the heck late, but the Four Corners as far as I know is the 4 State lines connecting. However, it is an Indian reservation so they have jurisdiction. There is some nuance to that, if they asked for it, but there is no question of which agencies get to screw you over if you start messing with them.
Hey Nothing But Trouble isn't that bad. I kind of like it. As for Taylor Negron, check out "No Small Parts", a series about character actors by Brandon Hardesty on TH-cam, it's pretty cool. As for John Green, I'm guessing he said "Don't Forget To Be Awesome" which is a catchphrase/motto of his YT channel.
Brad, when you voiced your distaste for Tim and Eric, my mind immediately jumped to "fucking philistine" before I could stop it. So I'm sorry for calling you a philistine in my head, Brad, it was rude and uncalled for.
I rented this movie thinking,"This could be ok". I was so wrong.I laughed at Charley doing Charley work, and Chevy Chase. That was it.why can't we have good comedy Sequal remakes.i would love a good Sequal to like Revenge of the Nerds or even vacation, but for now looks like we can't have nice things.Tear.😥
I actually loved this movie. I like how it didn't rely on pop culture jokes. I could do without the dick jokes, but the water rafting absolutely slayed me.
I'm surprised by the lack of a reference to the I Think You're All Fucked in the Head speech, but really, that's Brian, Dave, or Irving's job. Also, it wouldn't feel right with only two people.
Agreed I tried, I really tried this movie i hate cutting movies off even when they are bad and pushing through. I made it through Cat in the Hat for %#%&%#! !! I made it through to about the ten minute mark before giving up.
I am a fan of John Green and I think what he meant with the whole as we say in my hometown stay awesome! the little youtuber community he and his brother has created has a catchphrase caalled dftba = Don't forget to be awesome Inn other news I am kinda sad but not surprised that vacation sucks I love Christmas Vacation and never managed to see the whole of the others since I have only seen the edited for tv versions but am not surprised in that it seems every movie like this (trying to cash in on an old comedy and making it 'new' and 'hip') fails utterly
The casting of Ron Livingston was just bizarre. He's a pilot with the "cool" airline, who bullies Ed Helms as an adult for being a pilot with a different airline and is extremely hostile when he runs into his family at Wally World? Not only does it not make any sense, why does a Vacation movie need an evil villain?
when they're with the sister and the uncle, they say it's in Plano. I live in Plano, there are no fucking cattle ranches. For God's sake, both Id Software and Gearbox are located in Plano.
This movie was made by very specific types of assholes - the kinds that thought Keitaro's and Rito's stupid, predictable, overused pratfalls and accidental gropes of women in Love Hina and To Love Ru were funny.
Nothing But Trouble is one of my favorite WTF movies out there and Brad you should do a full Cinema Snob episode on it! The weirdest part about it is (and this info I can no longer find online anymore) it was meant to be gorier and more dark humored and violent! The movie that came out had been gutted in editing to get its rating down enough to get it into theaters! Also, the old man's nose wasn't a "real" dick with in the movie! He had a rubber prosthetic nose that he had to rush and put back on and the wrinkles in it made it look like a dick that is the joke! XD
Vacation ,to me, was a big bowl of Meh. I didn't hate it as much as everyone else apparently did, but that's not saying I loved it. It was alright, a solid rental for a Saturday night.
Sounds like the exact problem with Men in Black 2. Makes a lot of references to the first one and has elements that people loved about the first film, but fails in about every single way.
When I saw the trailer with not Chevy Chase and not Beverly D'Angelo swimming in the poop I knew that this film would be terrible. I regret even seeing the trailer.
So watch "Vacation", but don't watch "Vacation". Thank god the new one doesn't have National Lampoon's written above it but the fact that it carries the same name and that when I googled "Vacation movie" and this came up first is an insult. The most disappointing thing: the fact that when I saw the first 30 seconds of the trailer I thought this was an interesting idea to have Rusty Griswold try to take his family on another vacation. It's so disappointing to see something like this actually have a workable premise but then they appeal to the lowest common denominator. Our lowest common denominator needs to start going up before anymore classics are competing with modern cynical cash-grabs coasting on nostalgia.
Let’s not forget the beyond terrible Photoshop/Effects of Wally World in this park. You can clearly tell 3/4 of the rides are stock footage from other parks.
"He was talking like an 18 year old, but in the body of a 40 year old." You just summed up John Green and his career in one sentence, Brad!

In Italian they titled this 'How I'm Gonna Ruin Your Vacations'. I'm guessing this was an omen...
Can you type the title in Italian right here?
"I cannot recommend this to anything with eyes and ears and senses."
LOL.
17:21
I like how Brad stopped himself, I guess he remembered European Vacation actually DOES have a bad guy.
"Did you like Christmas Vacation?"
"It was ok"
......
20:23 it SERIOUSLY looked like Brad's voice was coming out of Sarah's mouth
The Last Boy Scout is sublime!!
"This movie is made by assholes," lol.
I think this movie suffers mostly from this generation's most used form of comedy: dialogue. Too many comedies today focus too much on having weird, awkward conversations and reactions that are supposed to equal comedy. Michael Cera made it popular and everyone else jumped aboard the ship...
JEEVES635 Yes thats the reason. And not gross shit like that rubbing shit on themselves
Colton Rice "mostly". And if that scene didn't go on for as long as it did, it wouldn't have been that bad.
Not THAT bad sure but still not funny
This isn't a Michael Cera comedy, This is a Judd Appatow/Seth Rogan Grossout Cameo film
Yep first vacation movie is awesome Sarah. Definitely should check it out.
I will have to agree with Brad here: while Pixels does not sound good, I would still watch it before I ever attempted to try to watch Vacation.
"and of course tim heidecker's in it"
please don't make me wanna see this brad
I saw a trailer for this, thought it was a horror movie.
Saw a second trailer, still looked like a horror movie.
Saw a third trailer, wait this is a comedy?!?
"If you like liking things, avoid it. If you like misery avoid it because then you will hate that too

AdamOfNebb Okay, now I need to look up those videos.
Kanashe The channel is "vlogbrothers." They make great content, they've been doing it practically since TH-cam started.
about the john green thin: it was probably "dont forget to be awesome" and its from his youtube channel with his brother "vlogbrothers" . it's... basically an injoke for those of us who watch his vlogs. youre right he absolutely is a huge energetic ball of. well... I'm surprised . I just rented it and I liked it. I think it match the tone of the first one too.
Brad clearly has never seen vlogbrothers. "Keep being awesome." lol
These people are writing the next Spiderman, folks ._.
ThugNasty97 That's fucking terrifying.
Poe Ghost But they wrote Horrible Bosses so....yay?
ThugNasty97 Oh fuck my face
ThugNasty97 *facepalm* Maybe, once Vacation tanks, they will find better writers. If we're lucky.
ThugNasty97 Which is also terrible.
"Salo didn't do as much with shit as this movie did."

25:32
Basically what Brad thinks of the movie.
The Nostalgia Critic should TOTALLY review Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas when December comes around this year.
MUFFIN BUTTON!!!!!
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought of DBZA!
"I hope this doesn't become a thing now."
Ron Howard voice: It's totally become a thing now.
Brad needs to review "Nothing but Trouble"
***** More the reason to review it
YESS!!
True.
That was a spectacular, ambitious clusterfuck.
Yay, more Sarah Lewis!
Brad,
Saw an advanced screening of "The Man from UNCLE"...it's pretty awesome! you'll love it
AWWW YEAH TIME FOR ANOTHER EPISODE OF THE BRAD AND SARAH SHOW
As bad as Vacation (2015) is, it's still almost certainly better than Christmas Vacation 2: Eddie's Island Adventure.
The thanking thing happened to me when I saw X-Men Apocalypse.
Alexandra Shipp (Storm) did the "Thank you" speech.
Brad is trying HARD to sell the original 'Vacation' and Sarah just ain't buying it!
*BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!*
Brad does this thing where he brings his drink up to his mouth and then he continues talking with it right in front of his mouth and then he sets it down and then he talks some more and then he drinks it. It's not a bad thing by any means, it's just a cute quirk I've noticed.
Also, according to what Brad said at 8:17, this is the first movie recommended for bacteria or worms, who have no eyes or ears.
Brad, would you say this gets Unfinished Business?
38:00
Who was that guy screaming anyway?
Damn! I had heard good things about vacation .
Oh man. I saw Fantastic Four and Vacation at the drive in double feature. Fuck that noise.
Way the heck late, but the Four Corners as far as I know is the 4 State lines connecting. However, it is an Indian reservation so they have jurisdiction. There is some nuance to that, if they asked for it, but there is no question of which agencies get to screw you over if you start messing with them.
Yo Snob. You forgot that Digital Underground was in 'Nothing But Trouble'. You know, the Humpty Dance Guys. Which also means, yes, Tupac is in it.
I may be biased but I actually liked it.
I'd probably watch Nothing but Trouble before this movie since it has Dan Ackroyd, John Candy, Brian Doyle-Murray, Taylor Negron and Tupac.
RIP Taylor Negron
Hey Nothing But Trouble isn't that bad. I kind of like it.
As for Taylor Negron, check out "No Small Parts", a series about character actors by Brandon Hardesty on TH-cam, it's pretty cool.
As for John Green, I'm guessing he said "Don't Forget To Be Awesome" which is a catchphrase/motto of his YT channel.
culwin I love Nothing But Trouble. My wife hates it with a passion though.
Nothing But Trouble is one of my favorites!
What are those weird black cuts that seem to be in random places in all of these videos?
breaks for commercials
You know, if they *did* make another European Vacation with the same tone as this film...wouldn't it just be Hostel?
+Andrew Welter It would be Hostel with shots of Ed Helms making that stupid fucking face he always makes spliced into the torture scenes.
I got a "thanks for coming" thing like that in front of X-Men: Apocalypse with the girl who played Storm in it.
"A new Freddy Kruger movie"
Cut to 5 days later, that statement rings oddly sound.
So Vacation or Christmas Vacation Two: Cousin Eddy's Island Adventure which is worse?
Bad drama: either hilarious or boring
Bad comedy: excruciating
I loved Fletch!
I like how Sarah also only knows Taylor Negron from that John Mulaney prank on Bill Hader.
😳 Better off Dead
The Stoned Age.
I like John Green, he's a nice chap.
Brad, when you voiced your distaste for Tim and Eric, my mind immediately jumped to "fucking philistine" before I could stop it. So I'm sorry for calling you a philistine in my head, Brad, it was rude and uncalled for.
The Gift has 7.3. on IMDB.
25:34 HECK YEAH Brad

Dadko The original Vacation.
Agreed I tried, I really tried this movie i hate cutting movies off even when they are bad and pushing through. I made it through Cat in the Hat for %#%&%#! !! I made it through to about the ten minute mark before giving up.
Wow ... points for mentioning Salò. You have to be a special kind of person to wanna check that movie or story out. ٩(- ̮̮̃-̃)۶
I am a fan of John Green and I think what he meant with the whole as we say in my hometown stay awesome! the little youtuber community he and his brother has created has a catchphrase caalled dftba = Don't forget to be awesome

Napoleon Dynamite is good tho....lol That llama
I saw this movie on
HBO on demand
comparing this movie to
💩SHIT💩
is really a compliment
and an insult to
💩SHIT💩
This movie was made by very specific types of assholes - the kinds that thought Keitaro's and Rito's stupid, predictable, overused pratfalls and accidental gropes of women in Love Hina and To Love Ru were funny.
awww, I like the Tim and Eric show. :/
Heeeyyyy, I love Nothing But Trouble! :-/

The Korean gps scene made me fucking lose it! I don't even know why, something just hit a nerve with me with that one.
Vacation ,to me, was a big bowl of Meh.
I didn't hate it as much as everyone else apparently did, but that's not saying I loved it. It was alright, a solid rental for a Saturday night.
Zice033 Felt the same way.
+Zice033 My thoughts exactly
“Salo didn’t do as much with shit as this film did” 😂
I actually liked Nothing But Trouble.
Sounds like the exact problem with Men in Black 2. Makes a lot of references to the first one and has elements that people loved about the first film, but fails in about every single way.
they should have used the
original cast
and not people that not only
weren't in the
original movies
much less has never
actually seen them
NATIONAL LAMPOONS
VACATION
EUROPEAN VACATION
CHRISTMAS VACATION
VEGAS VACATION
AWESOME
Justin Bateman might have been a good Rusty Griswald
John Smith Jason Bateman.
29AndreG
my mistake
🤔🧐🧐🧐
How about Anthony Michael Hall?
🤷🏻♂️
Nothing but trouble is like if Texas Chainsaw Massacre would be comedy, weird yes, but not unwatchable.
Soooooo. PG-13 of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2? 🧐
You hate tim and eric brad? bummer, but I guess they are a love em or hate em type of comedy. Should watch The Comedy, great art house film.
Z Film Reviews I think a lot of people hate their style of humor. I really despise it.
Z Film Reviews Makes a great double-feature with Entertainment with Gregg Turkington.
I just saw the movie, I didn't see it as awful but I understand that feeling. I just thought it was meh overall.
Didnt this one have the younger brother try to kill his older brother with a plastic bag?
The goofy Griswold car is from Albania, which is dumb because Albania never had an auto industry.
Not a penis, it's a sausage, because of the whole homemade sausage thing.
Brad should get Doug with high
When I saw the trailer with not Chevy Chase and not Beverly D'Angelo swimming in the poop I knew that this film would be terrible. I regret even seeing the trailer.
What happened to the days when comedy required wit and not gross out and dirty jokes?
Worse than Christmas Vacation 2????
So watch "Vacation", but don't watch "Vacation". Thank god the new one doesn't have National Lampoon's written above it but the fact that it carries the same name and that when I googled "Vacation movie" and this came up first is an insult.

John Green is creepy.
Jered Hess also did another movie called "Gentlemen Broncos" and if you think Nacho Libre was bad, boy you should have seen that piece of shit.
Let’s not forget the beyond terrible Photoshop/Effects of Wally World in this park. You can clearly tell 3/4 of the rides are stock footage from other parks.
To hate this but like trainwreck? Doesn't make sense to me.
Larry Newman Vacation has a 27 on rotten tomatoes while Trainwreck has an 85. So it apparently makes sense to a lot of other people besides you
Larry Newman Did you actually listen to both reviews? They explain their opinions very well.
imanowlexterminator Because online ratings always perfectly represent a movie.
JEEVES635 It is. 85% of people who reviewed the movie like one movie and 27% likes the other. Those are facts
JEEVES635
No but it shows how people like a movie on average
Get over yourself
Less jokes and less of a point than Gross Out?
