Peter Reid was one of the players who could NOT catch Diego Maradona on his way to score the "Goal of the Century" against England in the FIFA World Cup 1986.
The Beautiful Game show on Abu Dhabi Sports TV hosted Peter Reid recently. The producers of the show arranged a meeting, for the first time, and after 25 years, between Diego Maradona and Peter Reid. The meeting was done in Al Wasl Club in Dubai, UAE, where Maradona is currently the head coach of football

maradona was a freak on the football pitch the ball was an extension of his body. He was simply the master a magican. He could do what seemed impossible with ease. The greatest player who ever lived. RIP Deigo

I hated Maradona at the time but now I couldn't give a toss. He was the greatest who, like anyone worth their title, he did anything he could do to score. The referee and linesman failed, not Maradona.

Making a the hand of god goal against England four years after the war, and five minutes after making a goal that they´ll(the english) will never make...Diego´s just epic...Making a pass with his ankle injured (ankle with the size of a cricket ball) against Brazil, through the legs of the brazilian in the 90 WC. Diego´s fantastic literature. Messi could be better...but never the same.
nico To be honest with you, The 2nd goal was perhaps a bit easier to score as England were still reeling from the handball, Still obviously an amazing goal but England rallied and nearly got it back to 2-2.
And Michael Owen did score a similar goal against...Argentina.

I love the mutual respect between these 2. Diego was, for me, the most magic footballer to ever grace a football pitch. And i use the word "magic" deliberately because he could do the impossible. The world misses him.

For me 1990 was the best english team. So much talent. We played the final against Germany without 4 key players and Maradona with a swollen ankle, so against that english team it would have been absolutely impossible for Argentina. I would have enjoyed seeing England winning that title instead of the germans.
The English always assume they are to win the tournament they are in. They lack humility and perspective still living off the faded glory of a stodgy win in 1966. They have not hit near a trophy since then and need to accept they are third rate.
