I was born in Portland and spent my first 10 years in Cape Elizabeth. It was there I developed my obsession with records. This was in the 90s when you could not speak positively about records without being belittled and ridiculed and put on the spot to defend your position, haha. I remember going to the Bull Moose in Portland, and it was like 90% CDs. That's where I bought my first Stones CD (the "Hot Rocks" compilation) with a gift certificate I got for my 8th birthday. I am 31 now, but I still remember that trip vividly. I do remember they had a small vinyl section, though. One of the first times I remember seeing records in an actual store and not a yard sale! However, my first record store (a concept that blew my eight-year-old mind) was Bill O'Neil's House Of Rock & Roll, which used to be in Saco near Funtown/Splashtown USA (I still remember when Excalibur was brand new and the ultimate test of bravery). Sorry, the nostalgia is overwhelming me and the photographic memory is going haywire. I did not realize Bull Moose started RSD! Incredible. And that first Clash album is killer. "Career opportunities, the ones that never knock," haha.
Oh yeah, I definitely remember that era. And when Hot Topic of all places led the charge to repopularize newly released vinyl 😆 Oh cool, I haven't been in the Portland store in years. In fact, I think they moved recently (errr... sometime in the last 10 years?). But all the stores definitely have a lot more vinyl than they used to. We've got a few more dedicated record stores in the Bangor area now, but I'm still glad we've got something as cool as Bull Moose around. Love that first album! In fact, I love the first three. I still remember buying my CD copy of London Calling in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame gift shop right after seeing Paul Simonon's iconic smashed bass up close.
The first five Monkees albums were originally released in both mono and stereo; however, the mono version of that 5th LP, The Birds, the Bees and the Monkees, was pressed in small numbers and is therefore quite uncommon and expensive, so the rerelease in mono on vinyl is nice. Glad to see young folks are Monkees fans. Great band.
Oh nice, I didn't realize The Monkees had dual releases for all of them originally! I guess that makes a mono re-release even more unique now then. Definitely, I've loved them since I was a kid, so it was exciting to see them play back in 2011 after decades of listening to them haha.
Favorite of theirs? Or favorite of the haul? I'm glad I was able to grab that one! RSD is one of the few times I appreciate the long lines at check-out because it gives me an excuse to kill some time browsing the crates (and the blu-ray shelves). I always manage to pick up a few more than I intended haha.
Hi first time viewer. I have been to a number of RSD in different cities and don’t remember their being any freebies. It’s cool your store did that. Good music choices. I picked up Siouxsie and Banshees Nocturne and The best of The Didjits.
Hey there, thanks for watching! Oh interesting, I didn't realize it was something unique to my store! There's always a handful of general RSD stickers/pins in the freebie bag, so I just assumed everybody got them and that the Bull Moose poster was the only store-specific thing we got. Thanks! Oooh, nice. I don't think my store had either of those in stock. I probably would've jumped on that Didjits release if they had. And I see that it's green vinyl... all the more reason for me haha.
Ummm freebies?? Lol the only freebie I have ever received is a bag to take home the records I usually overpay for lol…. I am usually one of the first few inside both our local record shops too, so they haven’t run out…. Always find stuff that I just have to take home, even when I go not looking for anything in particular lol love vinyl, love record store day…. Some of your pickups were pretty cool!! The Orca,, the Monkees, pretty cool to see how big a fan you are with music, for being called Mainely Movies lol
Somebody else in the comments mentioned that they've never gotten freebies before either. I always assumed it was a general RSD thing, but apparently it might just be a Bull Moose RSD thing? In past years, I've gotten stickers, posters, pins, CDs and random vinyl singles, even hats and t-shirts just for buying something on RSD 😅 Thanks! I think that Orca score was the best looking of the releases I picked up... kind of regretting not keeping it for myself 😆 Haha, yeah this channel is mostly for movie reviews but I'm as big a fan of music as I am of movies, so I try to sneak in as much music stuff as I can too 😆
Hey: Thanks for taking the time to reply,, your record store sounds like a great one! I live in Southeastern Ontario, and like I said never any freebies although I am familiar with this years cool poster, as I have seen it here and there, we are about an hour from Kingston, Zap records actually ran a promo with a member of The Tragically Hip, as they were chosen as this years RSD even had special pins made, would be nice to have things like that to stow away in drawer like you do, as each year there are new ambassadors and usually a new poster as well.. but I really enjoyed seeing your haul and an a subscriber now !!
Oh nice, I didn't realize different countries had their own RSD ambassadors each year. Though, I suppose that makes sense... and the Hip are definitely a fitting choice for you up there in Canada 😆 Thanks, I appreciate it! Hopefully you like movies some too haha
A friend of mine had a Dreamcast when we were in 6th grade and that was the only game ever remember playing on it. I remember liking it, but we didn't play all that often.
@@moviedave2001 I'm assuming they were on the soundtrack? I don't really remember anything about the game beyond the base-level gameplay. Though it doesn't surprise me. It never fails that anytime I come across something I used to like as a kid, it's got punk or ska in the soundtrack. Clearly all subconsciously influencing my eventual musical tastes haha.
@@jamesmclaughlin8547 Anytime! Once I get the blu-ray, we'll have to incorporate both into a movie night. Maybe we should do a marathon of when animals attack movies where you actually root for the animal.
