From this tutorial video, I began to understand the wet-on-wet technique even more, in which I have no experience yet, but I am eager to master it well. Thank you Michael, for another pleasure of mine!
You captured the mood well. I know because I lived there for six years ... sailed all over the island (MDI) and neighboring islands. Sadly, I hadn't started doing watercolors yet so it is a treat watching yours. Thanks much.
I'm so glad you are enjoying it, Darnelle! I enjoy it too! It is much more fun then just making paintings of Montreal alone, since travelling within and outside Canada is very much restricted!
Sheryl, do I have your permission to use your lovely photo as a reference? I really LOVE it! Especially because I live in Maine myself and of course have been to Bar Harbour many times! Thanks so much!
I love this painting this is beautiful and the atmosphere is fantastic. Thank you very much for sharing! You used to give more explanations in your 15-min videos, especially regarding the colours you mixed and about what you were doing and why, and I must say I missed that as it was extremely helpful. That being said, I am always super excited every Monday and Thursday to discover what masterpiece you are going to paint in front of us!
Dear Eric, thanks so much! Videos with more detailed explanations take a lot more time to produce and edit, so I release those as courses instead: www.watercoloronline.com/video-courses I am glad you are enjoying the videos!
In my travel palette, I use the following @DANIEL SMITH colors: Quinacridone Sienna, Perylene Violet, Indigo; Quinacridone Deep Gold, Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue (GS), Phthalo Green (BS), Neutral Tint
Enjoyed this video no end! Amazingly beautiful mood and such effortless technique. I am in awe of your talent! P.S. Btw can you tell me is it ok to paint any of these photos after watching your videos or do I need to ask permission for each one? P.P.S> I loved this piece so much I had to put everything else down and try it myself. But I won't share it with anyone if it is not ok with you (or the original photographer). Thank you so much!
Hi Michael, I am a great admirer of your art of painting. Just wonderful! I have now tried several times to moisten the paper (Saunders Waterford 300g) as you do, front and back, on plexiglass - but after drying the paper curls badly. What am I doing wrong? I have a very good painting teacher, but for many years he has only been painting on Ingres oer Arches paper (glued to wooden panels with wallpaper glue), but that is too complicated. I would really appreciate your reply. That would be nice! Jürgen from Germany wishes all the best
Dear Jurgen, You do everything absolutely right. Best way to go about it is as such: wet the paper just from one side - for a long time, like 15 minutes. Then turn it around, try side to the top, and lay it down on plexiglass. Use the tape to anchor it. After that, after you get the flat sheet with a dry front side, wet back side, anchored to the board with the tape, you can wet the front side and paint wet on wet. I always do it that way to let the paper stay level and flat throughout the whole process. Thanks and stay creative!

Thanks for feedback, Mukund! I think the sky was pretty good, but it's a question of taste, I guess :)
too much moving camera make headache
