Omg you gotta watch Hikaru no go!! It's one of my go-to list to rewatch again and again when I'm bored with what's available. I'm not a contemporary drama fan but this one captured my heart 😄
Find time to finish Meet Yourseljf. It's so uplifting and resets your outlook for your life. Taking time to smell the flowers and making time to appreciate whT is actually in front of you.

I watched and liked a lot of these but I have to say that Sleuth of Ming Dynasty is SO GOOD!!! I loved that one so much!
Rise of the Phoenix was the very first CDrama that I watched and got me hooked. Chen Kun is my very first fanirling idol.
Yes the chemistry is good there and his acting is perfection

Great list...a few I haven't seen like Hikaru No Go. and Under the Power..... I really loved I am Nobody, Strange Tales of Ming Dynasty and i'm watching old dramas Jun Jiu Ling , Legend of Fei, and trying to get through Story of Minglan but thats taking a lot of effort as its so long.
I agree i complain about the pacing with dramas now which are like 40 eps but looking at minglan or older dramas that are 70 eps I’m like it’s so intimidating to start and plus many dramas that are older has a bad ending too
Story of Minglan is so worth it. Couldn't get enough and could have gone on an on for me.

@@irenacross4734 I don't know where you left off but what I liked so much is how she never gave up wanting to find out what happened to her mother. She was so astute at analysing the people around her and determined to support those who deserved it. Her relationship with her grandmother was the bedrock of her self-esteem and her understanding of the world. The politics of her personal world reverberate all the way to the palace and that's only possible if Minglan and her man trust each other and work together without reservation. That takes extraordinary chemistry to my mind.
Episode 45...its the family bullying that never stops in her youth or marriage that i find hard. But don't get me wrong the details of her everyday life are fascinating and the growing relationship with her husband is interesting....i will continue....
Under the Power, I couldn't get past 10 episodes so I dropped. I would not go back. This year, I have not managed to finish any costume dramas. I ended up dropping all of them in 2024.
Zhang Ruoyun The Hope is must watch. One of the best school dramas I've ever watched. Lower rating is probably because of the end but it was ok to me. Rise of Phoenix killed me, too long, the end is so disappointing. The legend of ZH is ok drama but you can skip it. Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty it's ok to watch 2. Season. I started to watch many dramas on 1.5 reproduction because I have already few on my WL I don't have time to pick it up. Angels fall sometimes, Born to run, War of Faith. I was pleasantly surprised with Burning flames, first XX that I watched not concentrating on romance, one with best story, lots of flaws but still I really enjoyed this one, I loved almost all characters, even evil ones Jeremy Xu😍, the best demon. Legend of Shen Li, LC 😍 and best XX ending ever. I just 🤞 that it will become common one. Thank you!🤩
Legend of Fei gets better in the second half, it has its big flaws, but I still love it. I also miss Yibo in costume light dramas, but as the things go by, I guess he won't be in that kind of drama like ever again, it is sad for me, but I guess he's been curating that type of works he has chosen, so it is good for his carreer. Anyways, at least we have that one. (I love Xie Yun like a lot 😊)
You need to watch I am nobody. Even my bf loved it and he doesnt like Chinese drama too much.
I love wang Yibo but LOF I disliked the dubbing.

There are a lot of fantastic dramas on this list but if you could only watch one, I'd pick Hikaru no Go. I feel like we can all agree that China has some very solid historical dramas but their contemporary dramas can be a bit... eh, how do I put it? - Crap! Not all of them obviously but dang is there a giant sea of trash to wade through to find the good ones. So if forced to choose one, I'd pick Hikaru no Go and then the next time that Kdrama obsessed friend starts talking trash about Chinese dramas, you can be like "shush shush, bish"... Kdramas wish they were as good! 😜
