It's nothing to do with the table, Gary just wants to go up throw the darts and if he wins he wins if he loses he loses! He's honest end of! Mensur is a nice guy but at times it was like watching paint dry, there's slow play but he was taking the piss.

I went from watching MVG vs Ricky Evans which was unbelieveable to watching Suljovic after every throw got back to his table and have a proper look through his bag that’s was the same every time. So glad Gary won
This was the problem. I don't think officials can ask a player to throw quicker but they can tell him he needs to be ready to throw after his opponent. Mensur was looking through his kit, drinking water etc. well after Gary had finished throwing. It's time wasting in any other sport, PDC officials need to step up.
I mean going back to the table to screw around with his bag is just how they stay concentrated, if they arent playing on the stage, they're doing it almost every time :D But still Glad that Gary won.

@@petrbiman9267 He was going back after Gary had thrown his darts though. going back for a drink of water etc. If a goalkeeper was taking a goal kick in football and kept going back to his bottle of water or to adjust his gloves, he would be booked for time wasting. Should be the same in darts if someone is taking the piss.
I'm gonna rlly miss Ando when he eventually retires. I love how straight he is. He'll be the first to tell you how good mensur is in the practice room when he's playing fast, so yes he wants him to speed up to suit his own rhythm but also as it makes the overall game a better quality for ppl to watch. Anderson would outscore him either way so technically he shouldn't be bothered, but he plays darts as a hobby nowadays and if he's not enjoying it, he knows the ppl at home aren't enjoying it (we'd all prefer to watch 2015-17 Ando hitting 9 darters for fun) and its not worth his time.
Problem is that under pressure Mensurs dartitis could come back and bring him out of his rythm. All things that he does is because he want to take controll over it. The way he spins the dart in his hand is a way to not fall into dartitis and the focusing before throwing is important for him. He didnt play slow on purpose if you watch mensur - he always was kind of a slow player.

@@trissiB4mV aber ich versteh es echt nicht, Mensur hat nichts falsch gemacht, warum greift er ihn so an? Das muss echt nicht sein, zumal es Mensurs gutes Recht ist sich Zeit zu nehmen (v.a. nach seiner Dartitis Erkrankung), das ist alles so laut Reglement erlaubt, er könnte sich ja sogar noch viel länger Zeit nehmen (bis zu 1 Min pro Pfeil). Ich war echt immer Gary Fan aber die Aussage muss echt nicht sein, dann soll er halt lieber golfen wie er sagt, alle anderen Spieler lassen sich auf die Geschwindigkeit ein. Wenn er das nicht kann/will, dann soll er auch nicht Weltmeister werden.
@@andrekohle4592 laut Regelwerk könnte er das, ja, aber das ist einfach nur unsportlich. Er hat absichtlich langsam gespielt und für sehr viele Zuschauer ein ganzes Match versaut. Ich habe mal eine Doku über ihm gesehen und da war er echt wahnsinnig sympathisch aber so bin ich froh dass er raus ist. Wenn man sowas nötig hat dann hat man nichts im Achtelfinale zu suchen.

Apperently there is only few people that understand the table issue gary is mentioning. Mensur was adressed to the left table, but he took the one on the right. This made gary walk to his table in a line to cross in front of mensur who is slow and waits anyway. Thats why every turn took so long

He's 100% right about the slow play. Mensur waited for ages at the table after Gary threw. He didn't do that against Matthew Edgar? He didn't do it in the 3rd or last set in this match. What changed? If they were told what table they were at just before going on, there's no excuse for getting it wrong. Mensur tried his best to put Gary off. He has been crap the past year or so. Has done everything to try and win. He did the same to MVG before and MVG was angry at him for it. That's not darts. No place for dirty tactics in the game of darts.
He's spot on about the slow play, that was a disgrace. Mensur slowed him down on purpose and he's actually better when he doesn't do that. Moaning about the tables seems a bit pointless though, does it really matter? It just makes Gary come across bitter when he had the right to be upset.

The game became a farce after the 1st few legs, I'm surprised Gary didn't just throw both tables away & say there that's the problem solved, let's just play darts. With how far the stage is this year, I'd just go for a walk when playing someone like Mensur, you could do 5k probably in that time over 7 sets. Gary's been vocal for a while about the gamesmanship and not been solved at all, there's no need for what any of them do as could get heated for the wrong reasons.
Its just like people often dont know that Mensur suffered dartitis and its often not possible to get back to your best darts after dartitis. Mensur focues a lot before he throws and he also got mental coaching for those big games - the way he throws, the way he focuses, the way he stands at his table all is a routine to keep that mental pressure out and minimise the risk of dartitis to kick in. Also you have 1 minute to throw 1 dart (3 minutes overall) - he wasnt even that slow he always plays like that.

Gary has had to deal with this for years and has never said anything bad about it. Not through Pipe, not through Hamilton or anyone.
Take a look at the first two sets and explain why he keeps sorting his spare flights in his pocket like a toddler is sorting his Lego bricks. It wasn't dartitis, it was autism and ... unsportsmanlike! Nothing else!

In the BDO the closest Anderson got to winning the 2 biggest tournaments was reaching the semi final once in the world championship and the quarters in the world masters twice.

Agree with Anderson 1000%. I turned over after 15minutes and caught up with the result on BBC later. I listened to Wayne Mardels assessment on the news earlier, what a complete Sky robot he is talking absolute shite nobody should have to put up with that level of slow play absolute nonsense, he clearly has something against Anderson with his biased salty punditry. I really like Mensur but that was like Italians playing football.
It's not that he was playing slow, he intentionaly slowed down the game and most important: He disturbed his own game with it. As soon as he started to play normaly, he improved his scoring and his check outs.

Mensur seemed to deliberately slow his game down. His scoring suffered for it too.. So some justice there. When he sped up, his scores went up too. Gary was just being logical. Good call.
Gary is well within his rights to kick off about the pace of Mensur. He really did take the piss. I think the table comments were a little bit "added to the argument", however Mensur did take the piss royally. The Peter Ebdon of the darts world. Shot clock maybe required.

I get the point of Gary, but in the end, this tournament is about winning it. Using certain tactics as speed to your advantage is nothing new in the world of sports...
That is just his style and as a former 2-time Champion of the World, you gotta know how to deal with these things...
Gary is my fave player but I have to agree with you, mensur was just trying to win simple as that, he had a game plan to slow Gary down get him out of his rhythm because it has worked before, tactics plan and simple.
Someone who is called the Gentle should think about being gentle! It was not only the slow throwing, it was the long brakes before starting, drinking water, stopping the throw and so on.
I know what Gary is talking about. In our small town we play darts with 4 player teams. It's already hard to stay focused when its 3 minutes between throws. We like to get after it and play, some teams purposely take their time or even show up late to darts trying to get us off our game. There should be a time limit, if you cant get your 3 darts off in 15 seconds after the last player shot you should lose your throws.

Chronic back pain makes every irritating thing worse. I've competed in darts with heavy people walking right behind me in a crowded bar full of noise. You need to adapt to slow players too. Gary will always have my respect and utmost admiration. It's a difficult game of nerve and high concentration under great pressures.

Slow or not Gary you're the one that missed so many doubles don't put the blame on your opponent grow up and get on with your own game.

If your doing something to put the other player off then that’s not on, like when the crowd try to put a player off that’s not fair play. Gary’s a good guy, really gamesmanship should be punished with maybe a fine then it would be stubbed out. Play the game fairly or not at all. Just my opinion. Players used to do it in the Olden days by standing too close behind the other player that’s why the exclusion zone came into play.

I read a few comments like: It's only a table and so on. So, heres my opinion on that:
First, as a top player you're focused on the game, and if its decided before the game which table is yours, then in your head its a fact. You're trying to wipe out every variable. So, the less variables there are, the better for your focus, for your concentration. And then you come to the stage and you have to deal with a new variable. Thats frustrating and its very hard to get the concentration back. (Maybe someone who played or is playing a sport on a copetitive level knows what I mean)
And second: You can suspect, that Mensur did this on purpose. If you've seen his litte games and tricks, then it becomes clear to me, that he choose this table to stand in Garys way, when he walks back. Normaly, you have a clear path, because the other player is already at the oche. But Mensur, sometimes hes at the table, sometimes at the oche, and sometimes in the middle of Garys way. He did that just to disturb him, I think. So Gary never had the same situation after he has thrown his Darts. And thats the exact opposite of sportsmanship.
However, as a back-to-back world champion, Gary has to beat those mind games, what he eventually did.
Mensur isn't a sportsman, he's a clown!

Mensur had dartitis. It's a huge game against a great player like Ando. It's normal to take the time to get rid of any nervousness isn't it? Ando is so easily triggered nowadays, it seems like he's out of love with the game

Not everyone plays same pace. Snooker darts pool...players can take time. Ok shot clock could help but why should there be. Ando just frustrated he can't his doubles like he used to
But that wasn't Mensurs normal pace. He played extra slow, it's his tactics against players who have a fast rhythm. It's not illegal but it's the opposite of sportsmanship

I'm guessing if your allocated a table via a toss up I would have thought a player would alway choose the nearest one as over a match using the right hand table you gave to keep walking past your opponent every shot especially if he's waiting at the table almost every time.

mensur basicly took a tea break in between each dart, gary dosent like gamesmanship which is what some people think darts is becoming which i tend to agree with
Mensur messes with Anderson's mind at the best of times. But it was a bit much when he's not even at the oche ready to throw, and Ando was already stood waiting.
