    What about including Bill Deal and the Rhondels from Virginia Beach? He had 3 top 40 hits in the late 60's and early 70's. "May I", "I've Been Hurt" and "What Kind of Fool Am I". Great show Band and and extremely popular in the Hampton Roads area. Such a shame he passed away so early.

    This music has been so Under appreciated in many ways ! Have heard most of them before but in Texas was not referred to as Beach music more like R-B .

    Is this phenomenon a kind of East Coast alternative to the West Coast "Surfin Sound" of the early 1960s ? Sounds GREAT !! (I've only recently gotten onto The Swingin Medallions .. what a blast).

    • @RK807
      @RK807 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. This music has roots in rhythm and blues. West Coast surfing music is nothing like it. Carolina Beach music is also closely associated with shag dancing.

      @@RK807 The Brits will shag to anything. Just saying.

    Actually this music started BEFORE the West Coast Surfin Sound hit. Those groups just had better promotions behind them. That's why they went nation wide so quick.
