    Very good job. You are not inserting reeds, though, they are usually called fipples!

    Took a break from cleaning to watch this and really enjoyed it. I've read the comments and the tips you've included and was hoping you could comment back with what type of wood you used. Thanks,

    In copying your whistle I couldn't find mention of the diameter of the 3 radial holes..? Everything else is clear,
    Mike

    • @CipsWoodChips
      @CipsWoodChips  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      mhebb1 The holes depend on the size of cylinder. Mine were 3/8 inch or about 9.5 mm. You should make them as large as comfortable. The larger and longer makes the tone lower and louder. Thanks for watching.

    Made one from cherry. getting plenty of air flow across the reeds but no sound... any suggestions?

      +Russell Love If there is a secret to make a whistle, I do not know what it is. In the video I keep testing each flute. If it does not work then it will not work later. Sometimes it is the angle of the cut, the depth, or the size of the blow passage. Practice on cheap wood like a spruce 2x4.
      I learned to make the whistles by watching Alan Stratton and Steve Ramsey. Steve used square stock but the principles are the same. Good luck.

    Very nice. I wonder if you have done any with larger bore? I keep looking on line for that but have not see that yet.

    • @CipsWoodChips
      @CipsWoodChips  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried different sizes. Yiou can easily increase the diameter of the body and increase the bore of the flutes. The outside edge of the flute must be properly aligned, so when you cut down into the flutes they will all be the same depth.
      Thanks for the comment....Cip Mendez

    Did you know if you put your hand over one of holes, it will make a different sound.

    Well I've made two of these now and neither one works. This last one worked fine until I glued the mouth piece on. Don't know what I'm doing wrong..Any suggestions?

    • @CipsWoodChips
      @CipsWoodChips  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** It took me several tries, but once I made one good one the rest were easy.
      If it worked before you but on the mouth piece, maybe glue squeezed onto the air passages. Did the whistle work when the mouthpiece was just pressed on? You might remount the whistle on a chuck and cutoff the mouthpiece since it does not work. The mouthpiece should be like a bonnet, very roomy, so air can pass straight down into the holes.

    Can I use this for my custom boiler at 15 psi?

    • @CipsWoodChips
      @CipsWoodChips  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dr. Jak G. Cogsworth Hello Dr. Cogsworth. If your boiler releases steam, this would not be a good choice. Steam causes wood to swell. All the best.

    Thipple, NOT reed! My father was a band instructor. Whistles are not woodwinds.

    Oração do Pai Nosso
    Pai nosso que estás nos céus, santificado seja o Vosso nome.
    Venha a nós o Vosso Reino.
    Seja feita a Vossa vontade, assim na Terra como no Céu.
    O pão nosso de cada dia nos dai hoje.
    Perdoai as nossas ofensas assim como nós perdoamos a quem nos tem ofendido.
    E não nos deixeis cair em tentação, mas livrai-nos do mal.
    Vosso é o reino o poder e a glória para sempre amém.
    -Jesus Cristo (Mateus, 6:9-13)
