    Super Clean Setup! I have a home server rack as well. Just like somone else put in the commens here "Why do you need all that stuff? Isn't it just too much?" Answer: Its never enough. This is a hobby/passion just like restoring cars or sailing or whatever. You spend your money, time and mental energy on what gives you joy. Who cares if other people understand it or not... its not for everyone. Keep up the awesome work.

    "Go Cray Nuts" comment time - Suggestions:
    - Pull out the UPS and servers in the racks, put a piece of cement sheet on bottom of rack to cover the carpet. Something goes bang, showers of sparks end up on very flamable old carpet, not a good ending.
    - Upgrade away from the old power chewing 29XX servers. 8XX series servers being 4P are pretty hungry when in use but better space Vs comupte power.
    - That ceiling fan threw me a curvey.
    - Fire extinguishers, same mistake many make, put near the entry/exit point aka the door. No point having a fire if you have to go past the likely fire location just to get the the extinguisher. The other very obvious one, don't use a dry-chem in a server room. You spray that sucker off in there, be prepared to throw out all your gear. Get a CO2 in there.
    - Looks like racks backed up to the wall, need access tot eh rear for server racks.
    - False signage, just a thing for me when you seen signage like the RF hazards signs, just a Cry-Wolf situation and can lead to people a paranoia.
    - Stick with the open mesh cableways. Yellow stuff will look cheap and crappy.
    Nice room though.

    Dude this is an AWSOME setup. So far mine is no where near as far along as yours. I'm learning as I go. Everything that I do have is currently house in a 25U startech rack. When I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. Even my daily driver desktop and my surround sound head unit for the big screen is in my rack. When I run out of room I have another rack. You won't believe how. When I ordered the rack on amazon, the shipper sent me ten racks, and didn't want the other nine back. So I got nine free racks. I'm keeping one extra and will either sell or donate the other eight. Even though I don't work in IT getting into home labs is fun. Especially for an old guy like me approaching retirement age who needs a hobby anyway. Home automation is next.
    Looking forward to more content.

    Too funny. When you started the video, it looks like you had a dedicated server room, I was thinking in a basement, or perhaps even a commercial (office) building, until you panned over to your desk & floor (carpeting). You make do with what you got, no complaints!
    For the heat, a wall mount mini-split would probably work pretty well for your setup. You can probably do most or all of the install work, & then hire a HVAC tech to purge & full the line set (or DIY Mr Cool).
    For my use, I have everything running off a VMware box with 32 cores & 512Gb & a separate 1U server for internet gateway server (ie firewall, ssh, DNS, etc). I do have a few 24 port Cisco switches, lots of IP camera (20+), IP phones (12 I think). Since I live rural i have a 65' tower with a P2P transciever for internet, I might be able to get fiber soon as there is a company running fiber in my nieghborhood.
    Not really a fan of Unifi gateway equipment as Ubiquitti has a habit of dropping support, forcing you to spend $$$ on newer equipment. I do use there Wifi (Unifi) but thats about it. For security its linux (firewall, Kerberos, SSL, SSh, VLANS, etc).

    It's unbelievable you actually have a desk in there. I have a white box tower server and a NAS in my room and they heat it up substantially more than the rest of the house.

    I am setting up my lab to study for CCIE. I picked up Multiple serves from a guy who does not want them. After spending time making sure which one is usable and which one I do not want to bother fixing, I came up with 6 useable Poweredge (5 R715 and R415). Five others were okay because they where DDR2 old but can be used for something. I am now done sorting everything out but your design is really good. You when beyond home server with full blown ground bonding. I did that in real data center. Never sort somebody will do it in their own house. long Story short I was about to sell everything so I can get any server is using DDR4. I got two of those right now and was thinking maybe if I downsize my holding from 11 dells to 5 new models that will be great. I like your setup. I am in Richmond va. Hard to find people doing this stuffs. I am actually going to really used them somewhere because I am in process of moving out of country and need something to use when I moved.

    Have you considered mounting a fan in the window for ventilation rather than running the AC? I have a similar setup including an AC zone dedicated to the server room. I don't like having to run the AC when the rest of the house is cool but the server room is warm. I haven't measured how much power it uses but I imagine the AC probably uses more power than the servers themselves so it seems like a waste of power/money.

    Neat setup. Okay, so a "pro tip": Handle those rack door with a bit of ease or you might introduce vibration into the rack. Sensitive equipment, like spinning disks and cable connectors, do not go well with vibration.

      Thanks for the awesome comment. Tue sound level isnt that bad its a nice white noise hum and most of the time i wear a noise cancelling headset but even without it on its not terrible. Im going to post another video later of some new updates that are really cool so stay tuned. Also i did end up switching out the cable runs with tye raceway because new wire inatallations are much easier now and still look good. I was having to stitch every wire individually and it was alot of work. So the raceway is much faster and cleaner.

    Hp 360 g7 are low cost now, with these its not doffocult to set up a home datacenter (60€ per server)

    If I wanted my home setup to be considered as a Datacenter what are the first things I would need to have in place

    • @ATI556
      @ATI556  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. To have something on this scale my first go to are power distribution,security system and air conditioning. This room is actually wired completely seperate from the rest of the house. It has its own dedicated breaker box outside, i can run about max 60 amps through it if needed. Have a security system in place for this room is also a must have. No server room, data center, can operate without a monitored security system. AC is also a requirement. These servers can generate alot of heat when they are all on and running so the room can reach 90 real quick of its not conditioned. I may do a video on this topic because thats a great question.

    You mean damn scalpers, not miners... Miners like gamers also want and need gpus at decent prices. The problem is with the damn scalpers buying a shitton of gpus at once and bottlenecking the already fucked up market... Other than that, holy moly what a cool server room you got running there! Keep up the money spendin' :))

    But what do you keep in the servers?

    • @JSLEnterprises
      @JSLEnterprises 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      probably nothing, because they're too old to be used for anything other than expensive space heaters.... and by expensive, i mean power consumption... the 805's are worth more as scrap metal than selling as a server.
