I'm doing the santos humpday hustle this month. it's my first race series and I'm in the base class. I got 6th/12 my first race. I was kinda shocked to see the leaders 5min seconds faster after a 35min race lol. I felt so burned up after like 2min of the race. Any tips for improving? particularly on that first sprint?
Hello there! As I understand Santos Humpday Hustle races are one lap but not entirely sure how long they are. For Goneriding the Base class does 2 laps for about 14 miles total. Step one is riding longer than the distance of your races, to get used to it. I am going to assume the race is 10 miles long. So ride 20 miles a few times a week. Step two, and perhaps most important for that sprint, is interval training. You MUST do intervals to get used to it. You must get used to the suffer. Sounds easier said than done. Step three, don't think you will be 'relaxed' after 2 minutes. It is completely normal to feel like you can't push harder, especially in XCO (Endurance/Marathon is another story). The most important are the 10 minutes of the race and they will be hard. You need to know that the other racers around you are NOT relaxed, they're also burned up and tired, wanting to quit or slow down. You need to be mentally stronger than them. No one is feeling like a stroll around the park, during the race. Hope it helps.
Great vid Migsy those starts are looking sweet! See ya in a few weeks in Tally! 😃❤️🚀🚀
Hey there! Yes indeed. There are many variables and unpredictable things, LOL!! 🙂
