Just saw One Million Dubliners, and was gutted at the end. He had the gift of words and connection, which I felt while watching it. Trying to absorb all I can about his all too brief life. He was a gift to the world, and how I wish he knew that. Having survived suicide by someone I love (survival is the only verb that sums up how you feel afterwards), I truly feel for his family and friends. Thank you for this, Jack.
You're welcome. He was a loyal, supportive, treasured friend and a very talented, funny man. I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm very happy you're still surviving. You can adjust to the pain but never fully recover. Life is still beautiful though.
I've just tonight (2-21-2017) come across this TH-cam "recommended video" about this man who, obviously, truly loved his career in a good looking, well kept cemetery. What a sad thing to see about his "untimely sudden death while in his mid 40's. It's very interesting how he gather info about the various departed from "all walks of life". This "style" of his...I wish I had that smooth delivery. To the survivors of his family: May the years ahead be blessed with health, knowledge, and happiness.
Thanks Jack - a lovely tribute. My Dad and I have just watched the documentary One Million Dubliners - what a superb piece of work. Shane was such a gift to us. He enriched our lives and will be so sadly missed. But we will always celebrate his legacy.
It’s a track from Moby. I can’t remember which one exactly. I did originally have McArthur Park which Shane requested to be played at his funeral but TH-cam flagged it for copyright. I know Shane liked some of Moby’s work and Moby makes some work copyright free so I listened to a few of the available tracks and picked this one.
God Bless you Shane , you were a great historian and a much admired man. I am sorry you did not realise that. May you R.I.P. Nr. Ireland.
What a beautiful tribute, he was a great story teller and I'm so pleased I got to experience one of his tours in Glasnevin Cemetery. 💖🇮🇪
A great Irish man, he met many "famous " politicians and celebrities but he was head and shoulders above them! Rest easy now my friend and thank you!
I went to school with Shane in Victorys very sad to hear he no longer with us.
Him and His Dad great men...great Republicans and Historians..🇮🇪🇮🇪

What a telling selection for a background theme. Shane was, like Moby, one of a kind, gifted and rare. Gone but not forgotten xxx
