Loved this! I did my first Park Run on Saturday and I heard two people behind me so I thought oh i'm not doing too badly..they were the tail walkers 😂 they were so supportive though and said I was lapping everyone on the couch :) Such a supportive group of people!
Good on you, Janice. 74-years-old and out there doing it. I'm 51, on my own running journey. And I know it's use it or lose it. We have long healthy lives ahead of us, if we do the work. And the work is fun!
I did my first one today! Was great and not a distance I would normally do full gas. Amazing how many people give up their time to help out. Thank you to the volunteers! I will be back for sure
I just looked it up and there’s a parkrun event at a local park that my son and I regularly bike in…. I had no idea! Now I’ll have to head there one Saturday for a fun run. Thanks for putting this on my radar.
Did my first parkrun in October 2022 as a non-runner and suffered. I have only missed two since then (Christmas Day and on holiday in Italy). Just completed my first 10k race, and I'm signed up to a half marathon in September (with more 10k races in between). Parkrun provided the motivation to get out there - I love it! It's probably my favourite part of the week!
That's amazing to hear! Super inspiring to hear about your journey. Hope your next 10ks go well and be sure to let us know how the half marathon goes! 🙌
Great video Heather. I am already a park runner . Let's hope this inspires others to give it a go and get involved either running or volunteering. It's always good to be with others in the fresh air. I ran Berkeley Green park run this morning - it had bag pipe music and an "Elvis marshall" - just fantastic 😀 .
I did it few times before pandemic. Our parkrun even has pacers for first weekend of the month. You can choose your pace accordingly. The pacers are among regulars runners that volunteer for it. You can use parkrun as preparation for actual event other than fun of running with friends. Even some elite runners in the country occasionally join in to motivate and volunteered as a pacer. Sure enough there also have sweepers that walk leisurely to ensure nobody left behind. I talk to one of the volunteer with a backpack on her back that she bring along ... oh, it is just a medical devices that being used if somebody collapse due to cardiac arrest. (She is a medical doctor herself). Well ...never underestimate Parkrun.
I have to say a big thank you for a big mention for the volunteers, in all of the GCN GTN stable I think this is the first video that has shown that without volunteers there would not be just park run but many other events as well. Well done Heather as a cyclist rather than runner parkrun is my weekly run effort with the dog !
I'm a parkrunner and ran my first parkrun back in 2020. my home parkrun is in Australia goes by the name of parkrun Shellharbour one of the harders parkruns in Australia. Thank you for your video.
The white 10 t-shirt is for juniors (under 18's) only. For those over 18, it would be 24 to go for the purple 25 t-shirt (which isn't volunteer only anymore).
Absolutely inspired! Thankyou! You just confirmed what I need to do-have been thinking of my local park run here in Australia. I’ve just started back running after a very long break due to illness. Tri’s were my thing as a much younger person, but my run was shocking-so I’ve decided I need to get the run down before I even think about the bike & swim (which I love!)-keen to remedy my immaturity in training/racing as a youngster😂
I recently passed my 200th (not boasting) parkrun most of which have been at my local event in Goulburn, NSW, Australia. There is a community of regulars who turn up each week and encourage each other and take an interest in each other's results. Can you believe that it's all free - just turn up and follow (or lead if you're that good) the pack. Get a finish token, get is scanned and you'll get an email with your result. You'll be back next week to see if you can record a better time. Give it a go it is good for you physical and mental health.
I love parkrun, you can find me at the start line every Saturday, and if I'm not running then I'm volunteering at both 5k and juniors. Just to correct Heather, the 10 shirt are only for juniors, so Rachel has another 49 runs more to do.
It's great to see. Parkruns remained Covid closed in my area in Canada and I doubt anything will reopen in the next few years. Sadly, after Brezit, I don't see much of a chance of heading to your country.
It was *so* stupid. Almost no one catches a virus when out in the great fresh outdoors. The virus, if any, gets dispersed to the four winds. There was a Japanese study that showed this.
I was a volunteer at the inaugural (4.10.14). The course is pretty much the same, the difference is that it now starts in the field due to Covid as there's more space there than the original start.
Starting a parkrun is not an all welcoming affair in every part of the world. It is something we would never have imagined. There are narrow-minded people who will somehow be against your event and will do anything they can to sabotage it and run it out of town. Even organizations who can benefit from a parkrun in the neighbourhood can somehow be against it. We were naive and found this out the hard way.
Would love to talk with you guys on why parkrun was banned in Wales and many other countries for a period of time because of Covid despite the science proving it is totally safe against this virus?
Have you taken part in a park run?
parkrun is one word in all lowercase. Coming up to parkrun #200 in a few weeks.
I really want to but there's none near me not even within 5 miles at least

Total respect to all park runners, including the slowest runners - keep going.

Park run is an excellent concept. 👍
Nice one. I love Parkrun too. It’s brilliant how inclusive and varied it is.

I did my first parkrun a few weeks ago in Munich and although I‘m not the competitive type, it was great fun!
Thanks for sharing this. I've heard of these, but hadn't seen details about how they work. Definitely looks fun.
I loved our one in Derby such a supportive lot of ppl
Love the Video, the people at the start really sum up what Parkrun is all about, and amazing footage (I wish mine looked so cinematic lol)
Love parkrun & really enjoyed the gtn video - more like this please 👍

Had no idea this existed, what a great thing! Thanks for the video

We do have a local parkrun. I'd never heard of it. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the great video.

So I have just signed up to park run and ordered a wristband… will go to my first one next week
Congratulations on your "Why You Should Do A Park Run!" inspirational thanks for sharing. Good idea, let's all have a go neighbourly. 💖

Why not ?
@@MrMadtaz01 I am not British and legally entering the UK seems extremely hard
I’m looking to move somewhere a little warmer, and now I’ll be making sure there is a parkrun nearby.
Doing my first parkrun on Saturday 😂
Does GTN have a soothsayer? I went on my first park run literally this morning!
I did my second with my son this morning 😊
So few parkruns in the US. I wonder why!
Bath should have chosen Solesbury Hill as the venue
Man, I miss parkrun 😢. Stupid pandemic regulations
I have 150 or so under my belt. Need my 250 shirt someday 😜
It was *so* stupid. Almost no one catches a virus when out in the great fresh outdoors. The virus, if any, gets dispersed to the four winds. There was a Japanese study that showed this.
how are you guys making just the videos I need!
Parkrun is awesome
Right!
Had no idea and just found a parkrun in my town!
Wow I think I was at the Bath parkrun inaugural event. Course looks a bit different now (or my memory is failing!).
I was a volunteer at the inaugural (4.10.14). The course is pretty much the same, the difference is that it now starts in the field due to Covid as there's more space there than the original start.
Wish my parkrun had a crowd like this! It hasn’t even hit number 52 yet, only been going for two years now, with the interruption in the middle.
When I did it there were 200 people
I won a park run today
Tough course!
In my first park run I was outrunned by mum with a 3-wheeler.
