What I never got about Kingdom Hearts (love the franchise) is that for a game that could easily be a childrens game. It has quite a deep, complex and emotional story, deep game play and, damn, the music is really sad too.
That's what I respect about the series. It's appropriate for kids, but not necessarily FOR kids. I would argue that the older audience gets much more out of it than the kids playing it.
***** Well, I'm talking about aspects that even go beyond the gameplay/ability names. An 8-year-old will view "hearts taken by darkness" very differently than a young adult or even someone older. To most kids, the villains of the series are just bad guys that side with evil and the heroes have to stop them. As you get older and have more experiences with the world, you find a lot more meaning or have a different understanding of the themes in the game, such as darkness being in every heart and some people giving in to those dark urges. At least for me personally, I wouldn't have questioned who was really good and evil in that game as a kid. But there's a lot of gray area.

Roxas is one of the most tragic fictional characters ever. He get's not even a single break from being miserable. 1. Doesn't even know who he is and get's used by the organization. 2. Meets two friends: Kills both of them 3. Meets 3 new friends: It's the matrix 4. Remembers Axel.... after he killed him 5. Isn't even meant to exist in the first place. Good thing he doesn'T have a heart. I don'T think a person could handle the feels...
That One Guy actually by the end of 358/2 he does have a heart but he was absorbed into sora at the beginning of kingdom hearts II so it nullified it which makes it even more sad ;-;
Well, that's ridiculously hyperbolic. I can think of at least a dozen more tragic characters that have had it way worse. But he's definitely the most tragic Kingdom Hearts character (though Aqua and Xion come at a close second and third). I guess that's why we love him so much. :)

Kingdom Hearts I and II weren't really that sad for me. From what I've played, which is all the games except Dream Drop Distance (I'm working on it), 358/2 days was the only sad one. Sure, the others had sad parts, but none of them really had that sad an ending. Except for 358/2 days. That was just depressing.

Hell when I started playing the Kingdom Hearts series I was like 5. I couldn't wait until school was over so I can play the game with my sister. Roxas' syory is probably the saddist in the game. Other from Terra's. Roxas needs a break.
