- Nissan Altima Strut Replacement
Easy DIY on how to replace shocks/struts on a Nissan Altima. This is a similar process on any car that has a McPherson style strut.
Basis tools needed:
21mm socket and wrench
18mm socket
13mm socket or wrench
10mm socket
1/2 ratchet or 3/8 ratchet
1/2 drive torque wrench
This is a great video very good. Can't stand when there's too much talking explanation and everything else. Down to the basics how to do it. PERIOD. Very good.
Glad it was helpful!
I really appreciate the diagnostic aspect of the video. Knowing the “why” is super cool
Man, I really really really wish your where a lot lot lot closer. I'd support you in a heart beat. Absolutely refreshing to watch you and hear you. God bless your ministry/business. You got that special something brutha! Super impressed with you.
Anyone in northern Cali, Sacramento erea you know and or would recommend. I also have 2008 altima coupe 3 5. Starting to get into my pockets. Like car. Still fast ND fun to drive. Cv boot, control arm, ac all need replacement or changed. $$$$.
Dude, this is awesome. I had a blowout on 185 and this probably saved me a grand. Thank you, good sir!
Glad to be able to help!!
Great video. You taught me alot
Awesome bro, you work so smoothly and thoroughly! Shout out to the editing to your videos are extremely watchable
You encouraged me to do with my car
I like how detailed you were and did step u step.
Best video yet, thanks
I have read other sources and have seen other videos that prescribe the following installation sequence: (1) loosely install the three upper strut tower bolts, (2) install and torque to final specification (140 Nm) the two lower strut mounting bolts/nuts, (3) install and torque to final specification (78.5 Nm) the sway bar link nut, (4) install wheels, (5) lower vehicle to ground, (6) torque to final specification (35 Nm) the three upper strut tower mounting bolts. Tightening the three upper strut tower mounting bolts before lowering the vehicle to the ground can result in damage to the strut tower bearings and lead to the noise that some viewers have reported when turning the drive wheels at low speed.
Great video , thanks my man. Would be nice to have the torque specs of the strut top bolts and on your page. Thanks again.
Hi, great video what was the torque spec on the 3 top bolts? Thanks
This video helped me out the most, thanks appreciate it
Thinking of doing the same thing should I also change out the cv axle?
Curious as to what brand of strut units you installed.
Reading reviews that most aftermarket KYB, Gabriel, Monroe etc all produce clunking noise within short time. Thats what I'm trying to cure by changing struts out.
Good video. Question, could this strut issue be caused by the extreme heat. I hear a crazy noise only in the afternoon when I’m driving home but in the mornings I rarely hear it and I have a 2016 Nissan Altima!
I struggle with the bar behind but I did the first one 👌🙏
Great job thanks my daughter first car has this problem oh what about aliment when doing this job 🤔
Normally changing the stunts in this car does not greatly affect the alignment but it never hurts to get it checked if there is any worry
You’re amazing, thank you!!!
Glad it helped!
Excellent video!!
Do you need a cam bolt for re-alignment?
No it is not required unless your camber is out of spec
Should you get an alignment after? Thanks great video!
For the most part replacing the struts do not affect the alignment a lot but. Anytime suspension work is done it never hurts to have it checked
You should definitely get an alignment after, especially on the Altima because you may not have aligned the top strut bolts. You could save and do multiple things at once on the suspension of your car needs it - I did LCA, sway bar link, and strut at the same time. The alignment made the new parts feel even better and the car drive much nicer.
You did not mention the siza of sockets needed.
Hi, I just put in entirely new KYB strut including the coils into my 2009 Nissan Altima, on both sides. Whenever I turn the wheel either way on both sides I can hear and feel a popping noise, even when completely stopped. It sounds like popcorn pooping. I don't know what is wrong.
Thanks
Good Job, thank you
Thanks for the video, also, my 13/16 socket fit better than the 22.. so heads up (Y) :)
Good stuff!
Great video man!
What do you do if the swaybar link nut is just spinning
lol
Do both wheels need to be off the ground
They will need to be as to remove the sway bar links you can have pressure on one wheel as it will make it a lot harder to remover
Do you need to do any kind of alignment after doing this kind of work?
This car does not have adjustments on the struts so it will not need an alignment but it is good to have the alignment checked after replacing any suspension component
So are shocks and struts the same?
Shocks are just a hydraulic absorber. Where as a strut is a shock absorber and a spring together as an assembly
That’s nice i replace it to and become fantastic, i have same your catr
i was going to tell you about that abs line.
Thank You Sir.
Good vid. Only thing. TORQUE ON THE NUT NOT THE BOLT 🙄
Not a chance that sway bar link doesn’t spin

This was a great video. Thank you feel very confident now in replacing the struts on my car. Thank you.
2007-2013*
Called three different shops, prices ranged from $1100 to over $1600 to do this very easy job. Freakin thieves. Pisses me off.
The prices are getting crazy these days!
