  • The band, Rocxanne (Dallas, TX), doing their arrangement of the Bob Dylan classic, All Along the Watchtower.
(Please excuse some mangled lyrics. This was almost 25 years before Google…)
The song was recorded in March of 1975 at Sound Techniques Studios in Dallas, TX. It was my first multitrack recording as an engineer and was done as my final project for the Recording Institute of America’s (RIA) audio course. Since I was also the sound man for the band, it was natural for me to bring them in for my final project. Per course requirements, the recording of this and one other song (not included) was done in 3 hours (including setup & overdubs) and 1 hour to mix.
I recently digitized, restored and remastered the original master 2-track, 1/4” tape. I assembled this slideshow with promo pictures of the band, some live shots, the track sheet and a picture of the single that we pressed from the original session and was used as a promo disc.
    Rocxanne was:
Don Moore - Rhythm and lead guitar (on this cut), vocal; Ovation Deacon, Marshall 100w Plexi Super Lead with a Marshall 810 cabinet, customized with 2 x JBL D-130 speakers.
Sal Olvera - Bass guitar; Fender Jazz Bass, Acoustic 370 head and folded horn cabinet.
AJ Sweatt - Lead guitar (not on this recording)
Paul Taylor - Keyboards, Hammond M3, Leslie cabinet with a JBL D-130.
Chuck Arista - Drums; Ludwig kit
Some recording equipment used: Auditronics 501 24x16x2 console feeding a Scully 280 16-track 2” machine and mixed down to a Scully 280 2-track 1/4” recorder. Reverb was an AKG BX20. Original monitoring via JBL 4333 studio monitor speakers.

I mangled those lyrics on purpose. :)
