Nana was gorgeous at 35 and is still gorgeous at 65. Definitely is one of my favorite Star Trek characters/actors, Kira had some of the best writing across all of the series.
I brought this up on a Facebook Trek page a while back and got attacked from all angles from a bunch of knuckle draggers stating I was sexist. Feckin idiots! And you are so right Michael.
Wow, she’s aged pretty damn gracefully. DS9 is a great show that deserves more recognition. Also, nobody did a mirror universe counterpart as awesomely entertaining as her alternate Kira.
I think because she’s a very sweet and serene person. She seems right up there with Bakula in being one of the most personable Star Trek actors (though honestly, I can’t think of one of them that doesn’t seem nice, though Marc Alaimo seems less chatty)
Nana would look better without the Gates McFadden face job. Jeri Ryan is natural AND beautiful. Marina Sirius as well, looks pretty great for an old lush.
Nana Visitor, you are so much more than an entertainer, when we put DS9, we see you as friends. We are comforted by your incredible work. It helps so much to bring joy and hopefulness into our lives
With a long running show like DS9 it is clear that the personality of the actor bleeds out into the nature of the character. The strength and integrity and empathy of Kira Nerys clearly grew out of her heart. Thank you for sharing yourself with us and making DS9 a believable universe with true emotions.
Not just the character development. The the interchange between character is part of what made it so good. They were future humans but they still had the same issues and problems as we do today. TNG did too, but DS-9 did it far better. Last but not least, it disregarded the pure episodic template and had a lot of great recurring characters. General Ross. Marok and of course Gowron. The only thing they missed that I would have like to have seen was a cross-series episode. This actually did sorta occur with the 2 stranded Delta Quadrant Ferengi, just not directly connected (e.g. start of one show, finish on the other). And to think I was hesitant when they first introduced the idea of a Star Trek that didn't go anywhere.
She and Terry Farrell have always seemed incredibly warm and sweet from the interviews etc. I've seen. Seems like a genuine person - which is incredibly rare in Hollywood.
@@ShuttlepodShow A small but MAJOR request from me would be can you guys get Terry Farrell amd also your old Enterprise pal Jolene Blalock. I would love to hear Terry talk about quilting and sewing and maybe show and do stuff on the air and also have Jolene draw and paint on air and show and talk about her visual art. I am really into visual arts primarily due to Star Trek.
When Rene Auberjonois passed away I was sad as Kira and Odo could not get back together. That last scene with them and Odo joining the link was perfect.
Nana as Kira was the first character that pulled me in DS9 as a teen and I've never stopped loving that show in 30 years. It's testament to her acting & the writing, that she is a standout character amongst such an impressive cast and that smile & laugh are infectious.
I completely agree. When I think about DS9, Kira is the keystone character as it is her system the station is in and it was won by her people and her actions. The development of the character of Kira was such a great part of DS9 and Nana really just killed in that role. What an amazing role and what an amazing actor. Just wonderful!
I’m excited to watch this one. Nana is my forever crush and one of the most talented actors ever to grace the screen. It’s hard to exaggerate how spectacular her portrayal of Kira Nerys was. She elevated the show with her performance and brought the Major to life.
Many women I belive counted Kira (Nana) as a rolemodel. Lots of us struggled with anger growing up and it was a relief to see another woman who could express herself in that way so powerfully. That character truly took some of the stigma away surrounding a woman pushing back when others continue to disregard a boundary or refuse to listen.
Why does every interview with a woman actress have to be about the fact that she's a woman? Female actors and strong female characters are not a new thing. Even back then it wasn't a new thing. But there's always this victim narrative being pushed when it comes to women.
"He doesn't help me, they're his children." So true! As a single dad I used to always get asked if I was babysitting and it made me so angry. I'm parenting. You can't babysit your own children.
Nana is an absolute treasure in the Trek universe. Being 23 I didn’t get to see DS9 or the others besides Enterprise when it was airing but luckily my father had introduced me to trek when I was 3 and I became obsessed. I had THE BIGGEST CRUSH on her! Kira was a character the writers hit a diamond mine with. Even if Nana wasn’t the intended person for the role, she gave Kira an UNBELIEVABLY layered and complex personality. Even through 7 seasons her character just got more and more interesting and compelling. It’s no secret why so many of us want her back in some way or another. And her smile… my knees still get a little weak😂😂. GREAT EPISODE GUYS!! Entertaining from start to finish!
It makes me happy that even today there are young people, who enjoy Star Trek (the golden era shows, that is) despite its age. Kudos to your father for that.
Bumped into Nana Visitor while she was in full uniform with Avery Brooks in uniform as well when I was on a Paramount Studios tour in the early 90s. I go the brief beforehand to not freak out, so, while I'm sure my eyes got big, I just said "Hi." Very memorable moment for me.
My husband and son got me a Cameo personal video recording by Nana for mother's day a few years ago. She was so lovely in it, just a kind and heartfelt message. Her acting during the series just got better and better. It was a pleasure to watch.
I’ve been watching DS9 lately and I just love Kira sooooooooo much. Nana Visitor does an amazing job. I love Kira episodes with her realizing not all cardassians are evil, her warming up to Sisko and her relationship with Odo :3
Ms. Nana Visitor is a sweet, funny, charming and incredibly intelligent and insightful human being. Her accounts of Hollywood and Broadway and working in the industry including DS9 were exciting and having met her several times in person, she is always kind and generous. Thank you Nana! I could listen to you for hours. Can I interview you too someday too?
Fantastic time with Nana Visitor and one of the best conversations! Big thanks @Shuttlepod Show , Connor, @Erica LaRose , @Mark Cartier for putting this together - Nana's a gem! ❤💛💙🤓🖖🏾
Nana Visitor is such an amazong woman. She's delightful to listen to. We are so grateful that she took the time to sit down with Connor, Greg and Erica for the ShuttlePod Show. What a wonderful time we've had listening to her stories. Thank you, so much.
" I will come to Quark and believe me I will have fun". A line both terrifying and funny. Would have been interesting to see how Kira would have dealt with Quark as the head of Deep Space Nine with both Odo and Sisko gone. Loved her performance in "The Duet". Would have been quite good if we had more Kira centric episodes.
So nice to see Nana again! She was so awesome in Deep Space Nine, and her role in Battlestar Galactica has stuck with me all these years even since I saw it.
A wonderful insightful conversation with beloved actors who brought two of my all time favorite Star Trek characters to life. ❤❤❤to you Mama Nana & Connor Trinneer ❤❤❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you Nana for coming to Shuttlepod, and thank you Shuttlepod for getting her on the Show! edit: Mark, your Forty - Seven cap hasn't gone unnoticed, subtle and well done !
This was such a treat to watch. Watching DS9 as a teenager when the show first aired I adored Nana as Kira Nerys. In subsequent years learning about all of the challenges she faced during that time was humbling because at that young stage in my life I just did not know. It was wonderful to re-visit her amazing career in this way on the Shuttlepod Show today. DS9 and Star Trek as a whole was a huge inspiration for me and for what I do today in my career in the film industry. Thank you!
I'm loving these extra long episodes. Mark is doing a great job guest hosting, but I'm hoping Dominic gets well soon. Hopefully it's nothing too serious! Love you Dom, and everyone at the Shuttlepod Show! Keep up the great work.
That’s one of my all time favorite episode. “You’re Maritsa aren’t you?” “You’re comparing me to that bug? I’m your your nemesis, I’m the butcher of Golitip.”
A lot of people would put Janeway up there, but think about it. As she's the captain most of what you see, as great as it is, is about her in a command role. Whereas you see the layers of Kira, and Dax personally.
Oh I much preferred her as Kira to Dax...but they played well off each other. Kate Mulgrew is a wonderful actress but sometimes Janeway seemed a little school marmy.
An absolutely elegant person is Nana. This episode went so quickly and I was engrossed in every single word. Great interviewing by you all, brilliant episode. Keep up the great work that Conner, Erica and Mark are doing. Dom get better quickly and you haven't been forgotten. 🍷🍷Ed from South Australia
What a fantastic conversation with the ultimate Killer Grandma - Nana Visitor!! Connor, Erica and Mark did an outstanding job with Nana and this is such and awesome freeform interview. The Pie talk was a highlight for me, and then there was the woman who created one of the best characters in Trek. Truly awesome and hanging out with #ChatPack 3.0 is always a great Sunday pleasure.
Best Episode so far! Nana is an absolute Treasure but also the whole tone of the show, the Authenticity and the Honesty with which you talk about Star Trek is just an absolute Joy, thank you so much!!!
Kira Nerys was a great role model. She was obviously a woman and feminine in her ways, but she was also independent, knew how to take charge, strong, and didn't take sh*t from anyone!! In the beginning she seemed mostly angry, but Duet made her the icon she is. And that scene where she is going to be sent off to Bajor, and everyone was coming into her quarters to talk to her is one of my favourite, with her "these are my friends" line at the end just rounding it off. She grew fantastically as a character, and still remains one of my all time favourite Star Trek characters in the franchise!! Thanks, Nana❤️ P.S., I was so disappointed when Ro gave Picard Kira's earring in the 3rd season of Picard. I thought it meant Kira was going to to appear, and she didn't 😢
Nana played an incredibly strong and well respected female character and they didn't need to rub it in the audience face to accomplish it. Very well written and acted.
This was my first time watching and it was an absolute delight! Eager to come back every week to hang out with these people! Thank you @Shuttlepod Show!
Trek really does have some of the most down-to-earth (and inner and outwardly beautiful) ladies in all of television... Nana, Terry, Jeri, Kate, Nichelle, Tawny, Rebecca Romijn, Michele Forbs, and so on. It's a true pleasure to listen to their stories.
Around 39:30 Nana speaks about being a Mom offstage and bringing her kids to the set and going from playing pick up sticks in the trailer to shooting scenes as Major Kira. You can feel the warmth and love of her personality shine through into Major Kira. Thank you Nana for making DS9 such a treasure. Thank you for standing up for the integrity of Kira.
Discovered this awesome channel today. So impressive - production quality is top notch, and the team is so wonderfully natural and genuine. Nana Visitor was incredible - thanks for not giving us just another generic 20-minute interview. Can't wait to see who you get next! Keep up the good work.
Thanks to all of for an entertaining, interesant (for me) evening. It's nine hours later here. Just started watching Deep Space Nine in German TV. It's the show right after Star Trek Enterprise. Only had seen a few episodes when it was on air first. I like it. Thanks @shuttlepod Show for having Nana on the show! She is mind blowing ❣❣Can understand how disappointed Dominic is that he couldn't participate in her interview.🖖 🌻
I never watched an extended interview with her before and this episode really delved into her character. She seems to be a leader who is comfortable in the spotlight. I would bet when she was a child everyone waited for her to show up before hide and seek began. 😄
How she stays soo beautiful and is soo captivating is beyond me! I am Soo Greatful this video came up in my suggestions damn didn't know this existed!!
Nana looks so stylish and elegant, has led such an interesting life, and appreciates the joy to be found in strawberry rhubarb pie and a great margarita. She seems kind of perfect. This interview got better and better. It's hard to believe, but an hour and 40 minutes seemed too short. You need to have her back for part two! (Can't wait for her book to be published.)
I've never seen Nana look better. ..and Kira Nerys is the most beautiful character in the Star Trek universe. I saw more character development with her than with any in Trek. Going from Cardassian-hating Freedom Fighter who became capable of compassion for Cardassians and growing emotionally and personally was a pleasure to watch. Though Kira is certainly pretty, beauty is more about who you are than how you look. Great conversation and wonderful to get to know a little about Nana. Have a good day, all.
I could’ve watched this for another 2 hours. Really enjoyed the show, Nana, and listening to fellow trek actors talk about trek the business and the craft of acting ❤❤❤
I love her. I wish someone would cast her in a kick ass revenge fighting movie as an older woman the way Bob Odenkirk is in Nobody or Michelle Yeoh in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
@@aldunlop4622 I agree. But it seems that some people want movies made purely for political statements. They don't care if it makes no sense, how bad it will turn out, or whether or not there is an actual demand for it. And when the movie flops they'll blame men for not going to see it even though women didn't go see it either. And the crazy this is, this has happened before.
This was such a treat!!! Nana is so gorgeous!!! Your show is the best and am loving these chats you have with all my fav characters/actors of my most fav shows. Keep up the great work! All by best to Dominic!!! 🖖💔
Another great interview. I agree with Connor, Deep Space 9 is my personal favourite Trek show, Its so good, the writing, the acting, the characters are all so fantastic. Duet in particular could potentially be the best season 1 episode of a Trek show. It's very sad to think that just 31 years ago a character like Kira was such an anomaly and against the grain for women to portray, we have made so much positive change since them and while Trek has always had groundbreaking female characters that are beloved such as Uhura, Beverly and Janeway its DS9 I look at as the first trek show to really do this right with both Kira and Dax, but Kira specifically
Thoughtful and interesting interview with my favourite Bajoran. Fascinating to hear all about her life before, during and after DS9. Continued good wishes to Dominic for his recovery. Hope to see him back soon.
Ive watched a few of these podcasts at this point. I gotta say its really great how just extremely positive about Star Trek all you great actors are. Where Ive thought its been a mistake not doing publicity with the actors from shows that really love them. Each star thats one this show afterwards I really want to rewatch the shows and like their characters even more. Nana was so kickass as Kira, I really would love to see her comeback in a modern show and check in to what Kira/Bajor has been doing.
You guys do a great job. The way that the conversations flow and the discussion is just excellent. And Connor does this talk show thing like he has been doing it for years.
i wonder which one on the show reads the comments. It makes me feel special that at least one from the show knows how much people love all those that were on star trek. The actors and actresses gave so much of themselves to give people like me an escape when things get really dark in their lives. I don't know if I would be here if it would not have been for DS9.
From the very beginning of the pilot, Nana Visitor was an instant "wow" for me. Kira Nerys was fearless, daring, speaking the truth in your face, no matter what... a real tough cookie! But she was fair, good hearted, funny, sweet and adorable. I mean, i just love her!
She was gorgeous on DS9, but to be so active and still look so good, she reminds me of a saying my mother had: If you keep doing what you love, you will always be young
I have no idea how each show gets better than the last but you have me hooked! Keep them coming and thanks Nana - one of my favorite characters/actors in trek.
Nana is absolutely gorgeous. She almost looks like another woman with long, curly gray hair; but I love having Kira and Trip in the same place. Both excellent actors. As a former modern dancer, I love Nana's story about her mother. I'll have to look it up.
I've always had a soft spot, in my heart, for Nana Visitor. I've crushed on her when she first appeared on Night Court. Great actress, funny and caring woman that hasn't aged a day!!! Beautiful!!!
The first time I saw her was in an episode of Matlock. She had the misfortune of having to play a character who suffered from dual personality disorder (lazy writers). Didn't see her again until DS9, so much better.
I used to dance as well, not professionally, but I absorbed everything about dance, I could get. When I saw Nana Visitor as Kira Nerys for the first time, my first thought was: I put my money on this woman being a professionally trained dancer! I always recognize them, something about their posture and figure. When I found out, she really was, I was amazed, and watched her performance with a different kind of devotion. As a teenager, I really could appreciate such a strong female character, serving as a role model. Her dauntlessness and passion combined with brain and brawn -
This was one of the most enjoyable Star Trek interviews I have ever watched. Nana is beyond delightful and Connor, Mark and everyone else created such a comfortable setting. I felt like I was there with them. Thank you very much for this.
She was a great actress on DS9 and was always so cute. Seeing her with hair that isn't some form of red...WOW. DAMN. She was good looking before and unbelievably good looking now!
Nana was gorgeous at 35 and is still gorgeous at 65. Definitely is one of my favorite Star Trek characters/actors, Kira had some of the best writing across all of the series.
Totally agree... She has appeal that's hard to describe... She's borderline sexy/gorgeous
She really defies age. I would never have guessed she was thirty-five when she started DS9. I really would have thought she was in her mid-twenties.
@@akaJughead WOW!! 35 when she started DS9 ...
It's her dancer roots! Her conditioning is superb. Her sensuality and self-awareness is apparent.
SEXTY five .
Nana's smile literally lights up the WORLD.
Right!?
Yup. It’s unmatched.
It does and I wish she'd stop---I was trying to SLEEP!

I think this may have been the best interview to date yet. Based on the amount of laughter.
Nana is my favourite Star Trek actor. She seems so authentic and genuine.
Somethin about her voice is just so nice and calming
Duet was an amazing episode, one of most powerful of the series I'd say
Discovered this awesome channel today. So impressive - production quality is top notch, and the team is so wonderfully natural and genuine. Nana Visitor was incredible - thanks for not giving us just another generic 20-minute interview. Can't wait to see who you get next! Keep up the good work.
Welcome aboard!
That was the best episode yet! Thanks everyone!
Nana just seems so down to earth and filled with so much wisdom.
Same applies to both Terry Farrell & Nicole De Boer, the other 2 DS9 ladies!
I never watched an extended interview with her before and this episode really delved into her character. She seems to be a leader who is comfortable in the spotlight. I would bet when she was a child everyone waited for her to show up before hide and seek began. 😄
Another home run guys, Nana was a pure delight! Please convey best wishes to Dominic-- and Happy New Year!
Happy new year!
How she stays soo beautiful and is soo captivating is beyond me! I am Soo Greatful this video came up in my suggestions damn didn't know this existed!!
What an excellent and interesting interview with the legendary Nana. Thank you Shuttlepod Show!!
15:12 love Nana. Very interesting insight and background about her life. Please keep going.
I got to see the opening number for Chicago when it had a run in Vegas when it was at Mandalay Bay. Nana was and still is AMAZING....
What a great episode. I've always been a fan of Nana since the pilot. Throughout this, I couldn't shake how much she reminds me of Dame Helen Mirren
Nana is such a delight! Thank you for a great interview!
Thank you!
Thank you!
So we've been saying her name wrong for 30 years. What an amazing person, and heck of a show!
I love her. I wish someone would cast her in a kick ass revenge fighting movie as an older woman the way Bob Odenkirk is in Nobody or Michelle Yeoh in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
No thanks.
@@aldunlop4622 Go back to bed, grandpa.
Or in a "John Wick" type movie as one of his allies...or enemies. 😃
🖖💔
Thank you so much!!
Nana glows! What a gem!!! I enjoyed every second of this interview with her.
Nana, when DS9 ended, we were devastated too. I would've watched that forever.
Thoughtful and interesting interview with my favourite Bajoran. Fascinating to hear all about her life before, during and after DS9.
Continued good wishes to Dominic for his recovery. Hope to see him back soon.
Thank you!
Tripp and Kira. This was so very special. Nana is really insightful.
Wow. i so enjoyed this episode. Nana is absolutely superb, with a lot of fun and interesting stories and anecdotes. Thank you so much for this gift!
She looks great. Even better than when she was in DS9. Amazing 😮
Love Nana's voice! What an interesting women! This episode has blown the doors off! Wow! 😀
She’s so cool. I loved her on DS9 and I could listen to her voice all day. Badass lady.
You guys do a great job. The way that the conversations flow and the discussion is just excellent. And Connor does this talk show thing like he has been doing it for years.
Thank you!
I'm so happy to hear how much fun she had playing one of the best characters from my favourite show
I don't usually comment on peoples' appearance but Nana is just absolutely stunning.
i've seen those episodes many times. I loved how they worked it into the script. I think more shows should do this.
i wonder which one on the show reads the comments. It makes me feel special that at least one from the show knows how much people love all those that were on star trek. The actors and actresses gave so much of themselves to give people like me an escape when things get really dark in their lives. I don't know if I would be here if it would not have been for DS9.
I like that her character in the DS9 episode Far Beyond the Stars was based on Dorothy Fontana.
From the very beginning of the pilot, Nana Visitor was an instant "wow" for me. Kira Nerys was fearless, daring, speaking the truth in your face, no matter what... a real tough cookie! But she was fair, good hearted, funny, sweet and adorable. I mean, i just love her!
WOW!!! This woman looks better than ever! So much better than on DS9.
Well, she was and still is the most beautiful woman I've seen!
She was gorgeous on DS9, but to be so active and still look so good, she reminds me of a saying my mother had: If you keep doing what you love, you will always be young
Duet is one of the best dramatic moments I have ever seen. Truly amazing.
I just found this podcast after watching an ENT episode. Wow. Nana Visitor looks even better than she looked on DS9!
Nana Visitor was always outstanding in everything I ever saw here in.
She made Major Kira a Star Trek legend.
The first time I saw her was in an episode of Matlock. She had the misfortune of having to play a character who suffered from dual personality disorder (lazy writers). Didn't see her again until DS9, so much better.
Brilliant interview, thanks to everyone involved.
Wow. Thank you. What a compliment.
She was a great actress on DS9 and was always so cute. Seeing her with hair that isn't some form of red...WOW. DAMN. She was good looking before and unbelievably good looking now!
grey hair with super tight botoxed face just looks odd
@@Plisken65 either embrace the wrinkles or dye your hair. you can't half ass it)))
never knew she was a dancer but now thinking how she stood how she moved it explains everything.
