Homemade Mango Desserts 🥭 Making Lavaria, Coconut Roti & Mango Prawn Pickle with My Family

- In today's video, join me as we dive into the juicy world of mangoes! My uncle's mango farm has been around for over four years, and despite the heavy rains this season, we still managed to gather some delicious fruits. Unfortunately, squirrels have tested most of the ripe mangoes before we could get to them. My love for the sweet taste of ripe mangoes and the tangy flavor of mango pickles wrapped in salt and chili is well-known in our family. My father, however, is the happiest when eating the juiciest mangoes that drip through his fingers.
➡️ One of our favorite homemade treats is lavaria, a special kind of pancake made with string hoppers. The process starts with soaking rice, pounding it manually, sifting it into fine flour, and then steam boiling. The most fascinating part is kneading the steamed flour with hot water and squeezing it onto string hopper plates. Traditionally, lavaria is filled with grated coconut sweetened with jaggery, but today, I have a special recipe for you! We’re using ripe mangoes to replace the jaggery, adding a pleasant yellow color to the filling. The taste is beyond expression - truly mouthwatering.
The following morning, my father brought home a variety of fruits: green grapes, oranges, pomegranates, pineapples, and of course, mangoes. He suggested we make a fruit salad, and we worked together until the salad was ready.
➡️ This delicious fruit salad gave us a light lunch and a well-deserved afternoon break. However, tea time called for something more substantial. I decided to make coconut roti and a pickled mango with fresh prawns and green chilies from our garden. The freshly made roti with a topping of mango pickle was a hit, especially for my father, who couldn't resist the tempting flavors. Embrace nature and live a noble life. ලොකු මාමාගේ රට අඹ 🥭 වගාවට දැන් අවුරුදු හතරකටත් වැඩිය.මේ දෙවන ඵලදාව වුවත් වර්ෂාවෙන් බාධවුනු හෙයින් ගෙඩි එතරම්ම සරු නැත.ගහේම ඉදී තිබූ වැඩිහරියක රස ගුණ අපට කරදරයක් නොකර ලේනුන් විසින්ම බලා තිබිණි.ඉදුණු ගෙඩිවල මිහිරි රසයට මෙන්ම ලුණු මිරිස් දවටාගෙන කෑ හැකි පැහුනු ගෙඩි වලින් දමාගත් අච්චාරුවටද මා ආසවුයේ අද ඊයේක සිට නොවේ.ඇගිලි අතරින් ඉස්ම පෙරි පෙරි ඉදුනු අඹ කන්නට අපේ තාත්තානම් උපන් හපනාය.
දියේ දැමූ සහල්,වතුර පෙරා වනේ කොටා සිහින්ව හලා පොට්ටනි බැද වන්ඩුවේ තැම්බීම අපේ නිවසෙහි නිතරම කෙරෙන ක්‍රියාවලියකි.තම්බාගත් හාල් පිටි දෙවර්ගය උණු වතුරෙන් අනා ඉදිආප්ප වංගෙඩියෙන් 🧇 වට්ටි වලට මිරිකගන්නේ හීංසීරුවටය.වෙනදා හකුරු දමා සකසන පොල් පැණි මිශ්‍රණය අද සැකසුවේ රට අඹ එක්කොටය.කහ පැහැති අඹ පොල් පැණි මැදි වී පෙරලුනු ලැවරියාව ගැන විස්තර කිරීමට වචන නැත.දැනෙන්නේ කටට කෙල උනනවා පමණි.🫣😍
පහුවදා උදේ ඉරිදා පොලය.පොඩි දවස්වල තාත්තා සමග පොලේ යෑමට මා ලකලෑස්ති වන්නේ පෙර දින සිටය.එය මට විනෝද චාරිකාවක් මෙනි.පොලට ගොඩවෙන තැනම තිබුනේ විසිතුරු මසුන් විකුනන කඩකාමරයකි.විවිධ වර්ණයේ ලයිට් දමා සකසන ලද වීදුරු ටැංකි තුල මාලු 🐟🐠 සිටින්නේ සුරපුරයකැයි හැම ඉරිදාවකම මට සිතුයි.එතැන සිරි නරඹා පොලට යන්නේ විවිධ වර්ගයේ මාලු ජෝඩු කිහිපයක් අරන් දෙන්නට තාත්තා පොරොන්දුකරවා ගනිමිනි.තාත්තා සමග මා මුලු පොලේම ඇවිදින්නේ උජාරුවෙනි.තාත්තා මල්ලි සමග කන්නට අරන්දෙන බූන්දි,පරණ සපත්තු,පුහුල් දෝසි,රටකජු වල රස තවමත් මතකය.තැඹිලි පැහැ ඉටිකොලය යට තබාගෙන පලතුරු විකුනන නාරං මාමාගෙන් තාත්තා අනිවාර්යෙන්ම වර්ග කිහිපයක් මිලට ගනී.ඇස් කඩාගෙන යන ඒ තැබිලි පැහැ දොඩම් ගොඩ 🍊🍊 කුඩාකල මට මහත් ආශ්වාද ජනක විසිතුරු දසුනකි.නමුත් ගෙදරදී ඒ පැහැය පොලේදී තරම් තද පැහැ නොවීම කුඩා මට හැමදාම ප්‍රශ්නයකි😵💫😄 කොලමිදි,කොහු අඹ මෙන්ම පෙයාස් මිලට ගන්නේ ද අප දෙදෙනා පලතුරු රුසියන් බව තාත්තා හොදින්ම දන්නා නිසාය.මතක හැමදාමත් සුන්දරය.එදා ඒ සියලු දේ මගේ අතට දුන් නිර්ලෝබී,අව්‍යාජ මිනිසා අදත් මා අත තැබුවේ කොල මිදි මල්ලක්,නාරං මල්ලක් සමග දෙලුම් ගෙඩි දෙකකි.එකම වෙනසකි.ඔහු කෙමෙන් මහලු වෙද්දී මා කෙමෙන් උස්මහත් වී ඇත.යන ගමන මේසය මත තිබූ අන්නාසි ගෙඩි දෙකත් අඹ ගෙඩි කීපයත් දැක තාත්තා කීවේ එහෙනම් ෆුට් සැලඩ් එකක් හදමු කියාය.පෙරැත්ත කලේ තාත්තා බැවින් සැලඩ් එක සකසා අහවර වෙනතුරු ආවතේව කිරීමටත් තාත්තාටම සිදු විය😬 ලොකු වීදුරු තසිමක් පිරෙන්නට ෆෘට් සැලඩ් කෑ නිසා එදා දහවල් කුස්සියත් මටත් ලොකු විවේකයක් ලැබිනි🫢
දවල්ට බත් නොකෑ නිසා හවස තේ කෝප්පය සමග අග්ගලයක්,ඉස්පංචියක් දී නම් බැරිය.පොල් රොටි පුච්චන්නට මෝලිය අනා තබා,තාත්තා පොලෙන් ගෙනවිත් තිබූ අමු ඉස්සො දමා අඹ අච්චාරුවක් සැකසුවේ යහමින් කපුටු කොච්චිත් දමාය.උණු උණුවෙම බාගත් රොටිය මැදට අච්චාරු තබා ඉක්මනින්ම තාත්තාට පිලිගැන්වූයේ දැංනම් යකෙක් කන්න බඩගිනි යැයි කියාගෙන තාත්තා කුස්සියට කඩාවැදීමට පෙරය.

Oh my gosh looking at all those fresh fruits …… I was drooling and my childhood memories came back. I visit Sri Lanka often but always stuck in Colombo and in the cities I hardly find these bright fresh fruits 😢. Next visit definitely have to find someone to take me to the village side.
