    I would have reacted the exact same as Zach. The rough edges were almost comical. Zach could have easily been a victim of Candid Camera! However, Becka's response was surprisingly endearing. Becka was spot on. The added character and story telling substance is priceless. Becka, thank you for keeping us all in the correct perspective and healthy frame of mind.

    What an amazing time to be alive! 30 years ago you would have needed a team of specialist technicians to install that gear ( if it even existed?) And also you are making the money to buy the stuff by posting videos of installing it on the internet. What will the next 30 years bring? Your voyage is powered by the avalanche of technological change just as much as it is by the wind! I think your ability to adapt to technological change will be just as challenging as your adventures to strange and distant lands will be!

    Congratulations on the new tech gear! I also recommend that the next time you are doing a job where you run new wire, that you leave a bit of an extra loop of wire for future repairs and potentially a bit of strain relief. Having drip loops on wires before they come in out of the weather is also a good ideal, as cable glands do fatigue over time and they eventually start leaking.

    Lots of Christmas Prezzys. If you place a depth sounder in a glass glass- jar of water and place it against the hull it will work. So you might find there was no hole drilled through the hull where you removed the old one, but a we’ll planned depth gauge.

    Wow! Significant upgrades , your going to enjoy having better data used to plan ahead ,the Doppler Radar is going to let you optimize your sail plan early while it’s safe and much easier. The chart plotter is a very nice bit of kit to have , I am in my 70’s now and even though there was reliable GPS when I was at sea my habit was to do a “sun run sun “ at high noon every day, I would shoot a set of stars at nautical sunrise every few days and used the HO249 tables to reduce them to a cocked hat position . I don’t sail anymore but still have my sextant and my mariners coronagraph wristwatch . I enjoy watch you two explore the world and learn and develop as you go along ! Keep it up your doing great things and creating wonderful memories!

    It is a shame that these blogs are so far behind, as I’m sure people would be able to give you additional advice, like drilling into plastic cabinets or thin-ish wood/laminate you need a set of ‘step drills’ and some ‘perma-grit’ cutting discs and files for wood and glass, MS4 grease for cables and antennas, red Lucas ‘O’ ring grease name says it all. Anyway it nice to see you struggling but persisting and winning, love the blog series. Keep your heading😂

    The depth sounding unit is excellent, but the paddlewheel will eventually jam with marine growth. The easiest way to clean it is to pull the unit from the thru-hull casing. This is a simple task when on the hard, but a bit more challenging when afloat. I would suggest assembling a maintenance kit of two silicone or wood hull plugs (truncated cones), a recycled toothbrush (or small diameter pipette brush), replacement wire, and an extra tube of lubricant. Pack these in a plastic-mesh bag and tie the bag to a pad eye mounted alongside the depth-sounder unit (to keep the bag floating off to an inaccessible part of the bilge). With a bit of practice, you will be able to pull, plug, clean, unplug and reinstall quickly and safely, leaving you only a pint (or so) of seawater to sponge out of the bilge.

    Just out of curiosity... did the metal shop just chew that plate out of some scrap of metal they had laying around- like with their teeth?! They should be properly embarrassed sending a piece like that out to a paying customer! Wow! Nice work on the electronics suite though! Looks fantastic and it will be a joy to use! I still have to install my radar, side scan sonar, wind and chart plotter. It has all been sitting in my garage for 4 years now... sigh... :(

  • @Sailing_Antrice
    @Sailing_Antrice หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great job, a tip, the paddle wheel on the combined speed and depth will foul up and stop working in days, sometimes in minutes.. you should have got a blanking plug in the same kit. If not buy one. Any time you are not sailing and don’t need the boat speed such as being at anchor or in a marina, pull the paddle wheel unit out and put the blanking plug in. Yes the boat starts sinking and it’s a bit frightening the first time but after a couple of swaps you will be fast enough that only a tiny bit of water comes in. Then you can remove the astonishing array of tiny creatures who seem to think living on a paddle wheel is their idea of heaven. BTW This is one area where NASA are better because they have a no paddle wheel speed unit that measures the speed through the water electronically. I would also be interested to know which chart plotter app just lost you your charts mid sail.

The top needs to come back further as do the side curtains. Sides need to come back until just before they interfere with the winch handles. The top needs to come back far enough that you can get out of the wind, rain, and spray. Experience dictates that comment. Keep working and making these great videos. Great project. A couple of comments though 1. I didn't notice you using rubber grommets where cabling goes through bulkheads and metalwork. 2. I've had mixed experience with wind instruments, NASA are the least reliable and can't network with other electronics. Raymarine are more reliable but I've been up and down my masts many times to repair. I've concluded they're not worth having - I can judge when I need to reef but I'm a bit old school.

    Good things do happen to good people. You have mastered how to sail without this gear, now let it enhance your safety margins and assurance…

    Investigate cable compression glands. They'll help and will be more reliable than filling 25mm holes in what would otherwise be an ip65 enclosure.
