    Housing rn along with the glamour dresser is prob one of the most ancient systems in this game. And not sure if you know the recent interviews. But confirming the removal of pillars plus changing the stairs or SIZE of the interior is a nice first step. If this comes into apartments where you can even gil sink to upgrade it housing would technically be solved.
    The devs wanting this "neighborhood" system is so weak cause there's nothing to motivate players to visit their neighbor's homes or go out of their way to socialize with them.

    yeah, they changed the rules back in stormblood but players figured out to use alts to take control of multiple fc's. so you can actually have 8 fc's per server instead of just what the rule says. the devs tried to close this by making it so you gotta be a member of a fc for 30 days before you can take over but its a bad fix. they need to make it long enough that house selling dies off completely

    Technically you are paying rent in any subscription game, but a lot of people prefer that to gacha games for pretty obvious reasons. To save time, there are better videos and articles out there on how such sustems are way more predatory than anything described here.
    I do think the implementation of instanced housing is a lot more complicated than people presume, it certainly isnt "easy." Though they told people to not expect housing with island sanctuary, it does feel like this system is slowly becoming instanced housing, thanks to feature creep, and I am excited to see what they are planning with the Dawntrail version.

    • @sylvieclos
      @sylvieclos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used Rent to mainly describe how I was only paying to keep the house instead of actually playing the game mostly!
      Instanced Housing if they worked on it a long time ago probably would've been a huge mess. But since they created Island Sanctuary, that kind of shows that was always a possibility. Since there's a lot of games that have instanced housing that stretch over at least a couple decades worth of MMOs, there's no shortage of MMOs that have done it too.
      But this game is also riddled with spaghetti code from 1.0 still haha

      @@sylvieclos Yaaaa, gotta say haven't paid EA in years and barely log on any more. Yet, due to me being the last member of my guild I still own my ship and guild hall. And, my house well that forever to because instance housing was something Swtor valued highly back when FF14 was still in 1.0. So, as I stare at my virtual mansion in Ff14 I still ponder why a game far older was capable of doing and has still been able to do something this one has yet to be able to do correctly.

    I’ve been playing and subbed since the launch of ARR. The housing system isn’t great, but it’s a lot better than any living MMORPG that I know of, most of them don’t even have housing.
    Thinking that the developers are unwilling to solve the obvious issue with housing is a a bit silly, I think. The game is older, code is messed up and we have no idea how difficult it is to work with. It’s easy to say “Wildstar gave every player an instanced housing plot at level 15, why can’t FFXIV do that?” but we don’t know the answer. I bet they would if they could. FFXIV has constantly done things to improve the player experience throughout the years.
    As far as having to log in to keep a house, that’s fine by me. People who have left the game for a while and don’t intend to return shouldn’t be taking up limited resources. However, I do think it would better solved by paying rent via gil instead of a sub. Sometimes people just can’t manage to log in every 40 days.

    • @sylvieclos
      @sylvieclos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Island Sanctuary existing is basically proof that players could have their own personal housing in an instanced setting. The furnishing system is actually, in a way, better because you only need one copy of an item that you can freely duplicate it. You just have purely outdoor furnishings.
      The fix is literally right there haha. It exists! They just have to pull the trigger to do it!

    The entire housing system in FFXIV is a subscription retention model. Preventing the sale and voluntary transfer of houses as well as keeping the supply well below demand is all 100% intentional.
    I’m now stuck in what is now an FC ward. Empty houses are all around me, and the populated ones are largely owned by a single lala player with 1-person FCs.

      @@sylvieclos That’s the worst part! The closest model I know if is LOTRO, which uses instanced neighborhoods as well. I never get why people care so much about housing anyway. You spend a week decorating it then forget it even exists until you get an angry email. Even new housing wards are ghost towns after a couple days. Now that I think on it they're basically just NFTs. Virtual ownership with demand created through artificial scarcity.
    I always always of the opinion any house bigger then a small should be reserved exclusively for FCs over a set member size. (EG can only get a large if you have 100 guild members) But of course that change is no longer an option without enraging the most devoted portion of the player base.

    Most games don't even have housing systems; WoW doesn't, and it's still the biggest MMO ever. The housing system in FFXIV has always been difficult but it's pretty much unique. They have coding and data restrictions to deal with that make it prohibitive to add infinite housing wards (which would remove the necessity of the demo timer).
    Calling the system cancerous is pretty hostile language, when it's a feature that costs them money - both in terms of data storage and development time - and doesn't directly make them money. They have it in so that people enjoy it, because that's what they want. Sure, you could say that's their business model since it's a subscription-based game, but far better that than getting nickel and dimed by microtransactions.
    It can suck to lose your house to the timer.. I did, on Balmung. But I got a new one when Ishgard housing finally came out. I know I'm lucky in that, but I also know that sometimes you just need to do other things.. that's how I lost my first house in the first place, and I don't blame the game for that.
    Do what you gotta do! At worst, you could transfer to a lower-pop server and get a new house there more easily anyway.

    • @sylvieclos
      @sylvieclos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The thing is, they actually have had the ability to give instanced customizable housing. The Island Sanctuary that is available for each player is basically proof of that.
      They just intentionally keep actual housing limited so you have to actively be subscribed to keep it. There's plenty of MMOs and games that give you a personal house if they actually want that as a feature.
      Wards make housing limited and even that system is faulty because most wards look like ghost towns.
      Island Sanctuary is something every single person has access too and they didn't even intend it to be personal housing. They only semi recently added the ability to customize it by letting you have furnishing. Actually in a way it's even better since you only need one item copy haha.
      So the actual resources and coding is there. It's existing in the game right now.

    This is one of the many reasons I just stay on free trial and enjoy what they offer for free. I refuse to get locked into a subscription where I am forced to pay them money just to have access to my character or items that I put all this time into. Sure I would love to experience Endwalker and Shadowbringers, but the second I switch from free-trial into a subscription, I can never go back. I am immediately stuck, paying that monthly subscription until the end of time if I want to continue to play the game. And I can never go back to just having my free trial character be free to come and go as I please. I don't like that feeling of being forced into something. I also don't like the idea of spending literally 100's or even thosands of dollars on a game. I prefer a one time fee for my games like they used to be. I want the disc, I want to own it and I don't want to have to keep paying to have access to it.

    • @lobete
      @lobete ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People say that because the catchup mechanics are incredibly simple. Older gear is mass rollable, the gear needed for any instance gets shifted down into the lower tomestone, etc. I don't think there is an MMO out there that let's you miss a few patches and immediately farm into the latest normal raid within a few hours, putting you were you would have been on the patch release. You can probably do that in less time than it takes to watch the cutscenes.

    • @sylvieclos
      @sylvieclos  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually think FFXIV is the one MMO that you aren't obligated to sub every month. You could sub every major patch or if there's content you're interested in. The general content outside of Savage and Ultimates are so easy you just need the minimum! You don't need BIS Gear to clear content in general and you can always wait even longer to get all the Tome Gear AND upgrade pieces without waiting once a week.
      You'll fall behind, yes, but in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter?
      That's why I made this video because the house was my obligation haha.

    • @TheUndyingCrystal
      @TheUndyingCrystal ปีที่แล้ว +2

      what is even timegated?
      You can do content anytime you want, all msq dungeons are 100% soloable now, you can ask people on PF for help with trial completions, and gear is lax enough you don't need to be doing savage to keep up with base requirements. Even holiday events get their items re-released on the cash shop, so you don't even really miss out on the glams or mounts in the end if you really care that much.
      Literally the only thing you need to tryhard at is BiS for ultimates or final tier current savage, and if you're doing ultimates or current tier savage on release, you weren't taking a break in the first place.
