The secret to surviving th kick back is to let your leg go COMPLETELY limp as soon as the kickers down all the way. I have an old 49 Panhead the the distributor is locked on full advance and she kicks like a demon on PCP whose having a bad trip! Every time she kicks me, the kicker tries to launch me to the mooning, but with my leg totally limp, my kne just slams into my shoulder violently. If I HADN'T figured that little secret out then I would have either been thrown over the bars LONG ago!
An old flathead like that used to have a “spark advance” on the left grip. Without advancing the spark, you would be launched over the handlebars 😳. I guess she’s using an electronic ignition for this sled.
Yeah, super expensive in Japan. Registration is based on engine capacity. I lived in Japan for 2 years. Hardly ever saw anyone riding big bikes: 1 litre bikes etc, because of crazy expensive registration. Mid size, naked style bikes were really popular. Also makes sense when the legal speed limit is 40 kilometres per hour on general roads and level crossings for trains are everywhere (often just a bamboo pole that lowers across the road combined with really annoying bell ringing). Roads with higher speed limits are often very expensive toll roads. So I guess that slow roads means that suicide shifts are not quite so dangerous. Anyway the Japanese are mad for most things American. I got to ride a few really mad Japanese bikes owned by some Bosuzoku guys I knew. Bosuzoku are like a kind of Japanese biker, not like MC's in Europe/America/Australia etc. Just like to ride around, at night especially, generally waking the neighbourhood and disturbing the peace. If and when the police show up they disappear real fast at the last moment. Small quick bikes were handy. They would strip off the fairings due to inevitable stacks resulting from escaping cops by riding through parks, gardens, sidewalks, whatever. Those dudes were hilarious. Do all kinds of stupid stuff: put their handlebars on upside down; really loud exhaust; throw firecrackers around, but like everywhere in Japan you're not going to get a punch in the face.
Half the time they pay a premium to get parts shipped out there. I have no idea how they do it lol if we pay a shit load for older parts they're paying double to triple.
