Yeah, it's depressing. Unfortunately, the people in charge make the rules, and the people who take big fat campaign contributions end up in charge. It's a flaw in the system that comes from the fact that we haven't updated our electoral process since steam power was the hip new thing. In the age of information, big, expensive, time-consuming political campaigns are no longer necessary.
Considering that the current system worked for the people in charge, it makes sense that they're not interested in changing it so we limp along with the broken system we have, hoping that the upcoming face-plant won't hurt too badly.

I believe a large part of this is actually tax breaks which is still considered a subsidy and is money the companies otherwise wouldn't have. There's plenty of argument for governments to subsidize energy. The cost of energy is reflected in almost everything that an economy produces. And that cost is born by the tax payers. But with that said I'm sure oil and gas get more than their fair share of subsidies.

2 things to take away from this:
    1) Fossil fuel companies targeted US legislators and the US market because the culture dominance of the US means that climate denial can snowball into a global movement. Journalists in the English speaking world are incredibly lazy and uninterested in researching non-English language sources so if the industry builds a strong narrative in the US they can automatically build one in other English speaking countries even if other nationalities think climate crisis denial is nonsense. This can the be disseminated into the global narrative through English being the dominant global business language.
    2) You would be incredibly dumb to invest in a business that spends massive amounts of its resources pretending an industry threatening problem doesn’t exist rather than using its expertise to diversify its business away from fossil fuels. Its an obvious sign of a lack of leadership and innovation; something which any smart investor should run a mile from.

@James Bande no plants need a balanced diet like us, putting more co2 into the environment will only harm plants as it disrupts that diet when many also need water, & soil, not just co2. It has but it's a really huge problem when this much warmth shouldve happen in our millions of years, not 200, organism cannot adapt that fast, look at our coral reefs, droughts, rain forest, & sea levels. All caused by man. Can't find any proof for when it warmed 700 years ago but I did for when it warmed 2000 years ago. That was natural & went away over time as unlike 2000 years were not pumping billions of tons of greenhouse gases into our atmosphere 200 years straight. Yes many electric cars are damaging to the environment but not as much as typical petrol cars. This can be attributed to capitalism were these car companies will do anything to make a profit & even go against their promise. They will exploit workers yet no one looks at what they're doing behind the scenes. The best way to have clean electric cars is let them be made by the community where all resources are locally gathered & are made with the community's best interest in mind like a clean environment. Do you realize that the only people who are still propagating this conspiracy are oil execs who have everything to lose when the common man has everything to gain when contributing to their environment like with more natural parks, locally sourced water, riding your bike to work. None of this harms the working class besides people who have money to make off of it. You can say "what the oil workers then", they can always find another job with their expertise like working in more renewable energy sectors like wind or solar energy. Once you realize that climate change denial only benefits the elite then you realize it's real. Any action that only serves to help the elite is one we should resist & climate change denial is one of them.

-They frame what is selfish as necessary or a standard practice, instead of putting forth the effort to do what’s good -not just for them, or those who support them, instead for the benefit of all and the greater earth.
    -
What baffles me even more is how quickly people are to impulsively respond with anger, rage, even in the comments as we speak, so dedicated to being right, framing vanity, selfish actions, or those carrying out these actions as being virtuous or true, instead of actually doing what’s wholefully right even at their own expense; that is what righteousness is, but that’s not what the majority who claim to follow it often do.

First wilth global cooling and the new ice age of the 70's and 80's then when that was proven a lie it was the man made hole in the ozone in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Then that was proven a lie. Then the left shifted to "man made global warming" in the 1990's to 2016. Until that was proven to be a lie too and they ditched the term man made glibal warming. Then in 2016 or so the left re-named "man made global warming" to the vague and broad term "climare change". Something the planet has had since day one and will to its last day. What the left is doing is dispicable, disgusting and evil. Many say the use of violence against the left is acceptable, resonable and needed. • @peterjones4180

And those promoting global warming are certainly guilty of it.
EG the AGW hypothesis was put to the test over several decades by the accurate measurement, of the equatorial troposphere using radiosondes (well over of a million times) the AGW hypothesis was CLEAR, Co2 would evaporate more water vapor which would raise warming and create a warming water vapor feedback loop (always an unlikely outcome as we have had Co2 levels much higher than now in the past and NO runaway warming) this would be shown to be happening by the formation of an equatorial tropospheric hot spot, the hypothesis was to be testable using the formation of the hot spot and was supposed have reached +.6 Deg C by around ten years ago.
The temperature data gathered over that time was conclusive NO WARMING in fact it cooled slightly, (ten years later and still no warming now) the AGW hypothesis was put to the test and it FAILED, the results were written up, peer reviewed and published in a scientific journal.
No warming = NO GLOBAL WARMING CRISIS COMING, climate has LOW sensitivity.
All we are left with then is the SMALL amount of warming that can be produced by Co2.
The lead scientist who developed the AGW theory acknowledged the cooling.
So was the world rejoicing, did all governments and media trumpet these conclusive uncontested and accurate scientific results, did they, bollocks, apart from the professionals and people with an interest like me.
      Almost no one is aware.
Strategic ignorance reigns, any accurate scientific study that demonstrates problems in whole or part with aspects of the global warming hypothesis is SIMPLY IGNORED.
There is an example in Australia where a scientist (an AGW supporter) working on drought published a paper and presented a lecture on his results, (i was not there but a friend filmed the lecture) his results were clear there is no link between global warming and drought.
He repeated this several times during the lecture and prefaced its first mention by saying you will be surprised to hear me say this but......
There was No problem with this and i heard nothing more for months UNTIL........it came to the public's attention via TV news that this work had demonstrated this fact.
Then suddenly he was on TV looking emotionally beaten and went through a CULTURAL REVOLUTION style self criticism, saying just that I MISSPOKE, now its clear he did NOT misspeak, as he stressed this point several times during the lecture, and that was absolutely in line with his results.
His paper was not withdrawn and his research is accurate, so there is no reason for his confession.
The reasons for his voluntary ? public humiliation are clear, someone in a position of power above him, had no problem with other scientists seeing his results, BUT were determined that the public should not know, it was clearly their intent that the public should believe the OPPOSITE of what his research revealed.
      This is VERY common.
So yes wilful strategic ignorance abounds and MOST of it is coming from global warming crisis promoters.

Most people now are pointing to previous climate change through earth's natural processes, not taking into consideration we have no idea what actually caused some of the previous ice ages or warm spells. They say it is all natural and choose to ignore the rising co2 concentration in our air some even going as far to claim co2 is not a greenhouse gas. When simple at home experiments can prove it is.
Democracy doesnt work in insane asylums.

    • @peterjones4180

So are you saying that Europe and the U.S are now covered by ice sheets ?, because thats what the same groups who push warming now were pushing in the 1970's.
You are not correct climate change is NOT the issue under discussion we are discussing the Anthropogenic Global Warming Hypothesis and thats a different thing.
Nothing humans can do will effect climate change we may be adding a little warming to the natural warming cycle we are in but based on out TINY Co2 emissions (less than 4% of the annual outgassing) but the paleoclimate data is very clear Co2 levels have NO correlation overall to climate or global temperature, we have had massive ice ages with atmospheric Co2 levels exceeding 5000 ppm, and substantial warming with Co2 levels less than 200 ppm.
In 85 % of instances there is no correlation between temperature and Co2 levels except that its warming that drives up Co2 levels with a lag of around 800 years, NOT Co2 levels that drive up temperature, in only 15% of instances does temperature and Co2 levels rise together.
Higher Co2 levels DO NOT prevent subsequent cooling.

    • @peterjones4180
      @peterjones4180 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thats because THERE IS NO CONNECTION, !, READ THE DATA ! and stop listening to CNN.
Global warming and global cooling and climate change are normal natural constantly ongoing earth processes.
Humans are probably adding some warming to the natural warming cycle we are in, in line with our TINY Co2 emissions (less than 4% of the annual outgassing), global crop yields have increased, and NONE the other issues you raise are linked to the small increase in temperature observed AT ALL.
So far climate and temperature and weather are within NORMAL long term variability.
As climate and average global temperature are measured in averages over 30 year segments how on earth do you think you can isolate short term weather as climate ?

Local / Regional events are catastrophic but do not point to Global Warming / Climate Change. These have all happened before around the world at different time frames and will continue to happen. California's drought is cause by taking so much water from the aquifers to the point where the land is sinking. The Earth is a living breathing entity that changes over time. Wind patterns, jet stream, heat from the sun, tilt on the earth's axis. Tides, position of the moon... Look into the Movie - Planet of the Humans... there you will find some interesting facts about this fraud called climate change. Co2 in the atmosphere is .004 % that is a sliver on a pie chart and we as humans have contributed to maybe .00016th % of it.The atmosphere is mainly made up of water.
Interesting how humans think they can affect the giant sized earth with a little bit of carbon. More like we have been coming out of the last ice age and except for a few periods of cooling the planet is still warming up.
Want to question something... ask why are they burning trees for energy. We all know trees capture carbon yet there are 178 Biomass plants in the USA that burn tree, forest refuge after they clear cut the forests, garbage, sawdust and anything they can get their hands on polluting and adding more Co2 to the air that cars causing asthma, cancer etc. in the communities they are in. Ask how much fossil fuels are used to build Wind farms, Solar plants and electric cars. That's not going to green our planet or reduce carbon levels in the atmosphere.
You need to look at more TH-cam videos and other research to get a better impression on those pushing this agenda, Yes those who are getting rich and you are not.
Scientists have been forecasting Doom & Gloom for a hundred years and not one of those predictions have come true...do your own research!!! There is No Truth in Propaganda.

You idiot NO ONE denies the reality that climate changes climate change is a normal natural constantly ongoing earth process thats been ongoing for billions of years.
Our species has been around for around for 320-350000 years we did NOT start the climate changing and we cannot stop it.
But that is NOT what the issue is about at all, which just demonstrates how little you know on the subject, the issue is The Anthropogenic Global Warming hypothesis and is a completely different subject.
I take your point, why read lots of scientific papers and books from both sides of the issue when two u Tube documentaries can tell you everything you need to know.
After all U Tube documentaries are delivered under oath arnt they ?
I mean they are never wrong about anything are they ?
I mean really they let YOU vote ?
Sea levels have risen and fallen over many time frames, they ROSE around 130 m at the end of the last glaciation around 12000 years ago, on a smaller scale they rise during warming and drop during cooling approx 4500 years ago sea levels dropped by a meter +
again , they have risen overall since but STILL have NOT reached their previous level.
All this is normal and totally within normal variation.
Apparent sea level rise or fall may not be related to sea level at all, coastlines rise and fall
as a result of their geology, the north of the U.S and Canada is still decompressing after the melting of the ice sheets and many coasts are rising, in Florida for a variety of reasons
many areas are SINKING, coupled with a rather normal sea level rise.
Nothing unusual there at all, sea level rise driven by warming will be equivalent to that which occurred during the Medieval warm period.

I'm a huge fan of nuclear energy and new SMRs (Small Modular Reactor) are a lot cheaper and easier to implement. Within the next decade they should be very viable options. The US has a good bit of Uranium so it could be locally sourced. Another problem with nuclear is that there's a lot of mouth-breathers that think Chernobyl will happen at every reactor we build.

So here is where most would call out nations like China or India, who are ramping up emissions like mad. And they are. But why wouldn't they, as it is what other nations have previously done to improve status in society. Fossil fuels, coal, etc. have been a god-send for the world despite any current chatter about their evils. Why would newer developing nations care to listen to anyone telling them they can't use the same energy others used to get to that 'developed' status? Wanna sell 'renewable' energy, fine. If nature can't keep up with the change, and ecosystems fail, we will fail. Because we are dependent on all those ecosystems. And we know for a fact that we are causing this, it's not a natural chance, not even close. Pointing at the total temperature and saying: "See? It was warm/cold before?" just doesn't mean anything.
