    It's frustrating to see all the deceptive packaging, and that it is somehow legal, but what really grinds my gears is the obscene amount of packing waste (i.e. single use plastic/packaging) that goes into all of these falsities.

    • @biekgiek
      @biekgiek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@LydiaHarper1019 It has been my observation that one of the more major contributors to the packaging waste is the self-care industry. I'm actually working on sourcing products for self-care that use as little as waste as possible. There is a burgeoning industry to support these type of consumer choices.

      This is the price of freedom in the U.S. from my POV:
      The industry is allowed to do whatever they want even this is smelling like lying or betraying. In another video I saw a package of 1000 plastic bricks containing only 523...
      In Germany we have a couple of organisations and laws protecting customers from such behaviour. It is not allowed to promiss and don't deliver, it is not allowed to use bad-quality ingredients, if something breaks due to normal use within the first two years you give it back and get it repaired for free or a new device for free, organisational test look for sad quality or allergens and companies must take back all their bad products. Bigger packages with less quantity and higher price is reported in TV magazines or newspaper. Based on this I like regulated Germany and feel saver.

    It’s important not only to never buy the product again, but to actually make the effort to return it to the store (who shares culpability) so they don’t make get away with it even once.

      They don't actually care cuz they know noone's gonna do anything about it. And I'm pretty sure they don't care if most people won't buy it again after 1st time because they're just gonna move to another product once it stops selling and repeat the process. I think the only way to prevent this is country banning such packaging but I highly doubt any country is gonna deal with this.

    • @allisonjames2923
      @allisonjames2923 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s illegal in the US too - false advertising. Especially the products which don’t even remotely resemble the package or ads. Sadly they know that very few people will make a complaint. And they can claim with some products that they use the same packaging as a larger product to save costs. Shonky to the Max!
      “false advertising
      Primary tabs
      Under Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act, a claim can be made against a defendant for false or misleading advertising. For a claim against a defendant for false advertising, the following elements are met and the plaintiff must show: (1) defendant made false or misleading statements as to his own products (or another’s); (2) actual deception, or at least a tendency to deceive a substantial portion of the intended audience; (3) deception is material in that it is likely to influence purchasing decisions; (4) the advertised goods travel in interstate commerce; and (5) a likelihood of injury to plaintiff. However, the plaintiff does not have to prove actual injury.”

      There's a couple of UK examples in this too, though. The _Half pepperoni_ pizza toward the end is an Asda product, and Asda (Though wholly owned/controlled by Wal-mart 🇺🇸) *only* operate in the UK.
      There's also a well distributed example of a £3,50 Pret wrap with some _value added_ air concealed in the middle of the packaging, and the „French“ sandwich at 00:56 has packaging and bread style very closely matching that of one of the major British sandwich producers, so I don't think that was _made_ in France. 🥪🏭🇬🇧
      And let's face it; The UK has fallen for the biggest ad/packaging scam in history. Still haven't seen a single penny of that extra £43m/week for the NHS which so many (Not including myself) voted for... 😉

      I think Wall Street needs to be destroyed. That adds to the cost, as we all know. What gets me is that if a company needs other people's money to operate on they need to close their doors. Look at Walmart 2023 or 2024. They made 17 billion dollar profit. Now, why in the hell do they need stock holders for?
      Back in the days when our grandparents had businesses, they would reinvest some of their profit back into the business to make it grow. It might have been a little slow growing, but it was a solid business they could rely on. And they were honest as could be. Also dealt with only American products, none of this Chinese junk.

    Pantene have been doing this sh*t in my country for 8 years now. They advertise some new product claiming it now has some new top-notch ingredient, and when you see the amount of stuff or check the ingredients list, you see right through the BS. They've been slowly replacing the 400ml (which used to be 475ml back in the day) shampoos and conditioners with 300ml ones. Their styling creams don't have hydrolyzed proteins anymore, but are more expensive than they were in 2019 because of course they are. Their hair masks, ampoules and conditioners are literally the same product but with different packaging and different prices (same ingredients list in the same order), the fancy shampoo bottles cost more even if they have less product than the classic packaging (and still almost same formula), and the list goes on...
    I don't get how they've become as expensive as some local prestigious salon brands.

      The only thing worse than this will be in a year or two, when that „Yard“ is formed of about ten bars placed end-to-end in the same sized box with card fenders on both sides. You'll get about half the product, but still pay the same price as today... 🍫💸😣

    The Merci one doesn't really seem deceiving, as the marketers wanted to show the chocolate as a gift to someone. They do advertise "Give thanks (Merci) to someone" and I do enjoy their chocolates. Plus, it doesn't say anywhere on the packaging you would get more than one box of chocolate. Look at the window, it was clearly made for that specific size of chocolate box. They don't want to cover any part of the chocolate box and so they made an extra box for it.

      This can sometimes be abused, too. In the UK the cost per weight (Typically pence per gram) has to be displayed by law, but the _unit_ of weight chosen for that measurement is down to the retailer - The only stipulation to that is it must be a Metric unit. ⚖
      I've lost count of the number of times I've had to mentally adjust the given cost-per-weight on label B (Which gives GBP per Kg) to make a balanced comparison with label A (In pence per 100g) and the only thing that saves me a lot of headaches is the fact it must _always_ be decimal units. If the UK ever went back to imperial - And I had to start making comparisons between label C (In shillings per Lb) and label D ( _d_ per oz) - I would be well and truly fc🇬🇧ed. 😳

      @TheDasHatti หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ True. It’s a bit annoying that one product has €/kg and the other has €/100g. But since it’s just a decimal it should be manageable for most. But still unnecessary… one would be enough.
      But when there are imperials in the game, it’s completely useless…
      That is why everything has to be regulated. All businesses put any profit over common sense

    I'm not trying to defend all of these, but some of these are clearly defects or mistakes. Like the corndog without the hotdog was obviously a defect. And the seedless sticker on the melon was probably just someone at the grocery store who wasn't paying attention. Those clearly weren't intentionally deceitful.

    10 packs written on the box
    when I open it, it contain 10 packs of wafer roll with half the size of the long box
    so it actually contain only 5 wafer rolls, but cut in half, and you got 10 packs 😅

    always look at the ounces or the item count. The people whining about the candy bars shouldn't be, it says 18 on the front. They got 18 even if the middle was just air, there were 18 normal sized bars. The food with basically nothing in the center I agree is wrong. If I get scammed, I NEVER buy that item again. When I get something new to me, I only buy 1 to make sure before I spend more money on them. They may get me once, but only once will it happen.

    Half of these deceptions could be easily avoided by just reading the actual weight/amount/number of items of the content, that should be exposed somewhere on the packaging. And that cactus flowers are made of paper and glued on them, has been obvious to me since I was 4, but I was fine with it, I never saw it as a deception, just as a decoration that made my cherished little plant prettier.

    Restocked my dogs dry food the other day and the 50 lb. Bag is now 40 lbs but the shelf sticker still had the $25.67 price for 50 lbs. The 40 lb bag has a "bonus 4 lbs free" label on it, so 6 lbs less for the 50 lb price right? Nope, it rang up at $27.67. Luckily this wal mart had 2 manned registers open so at least I didn't have give myself my own fucking I guess
