Maybe it's a user choice but they should be aware it's likely to impact performance and eat into their storage. Everyone is different, but I've used WordPress on a number of production sites for years and I can't recall ever actively using or needing WP revisions. I would suggest most "average" bloggers don't need them either. They're good in principle. If users really need this level of backup, maybe it's safer to store the resources for their blog posts offline and use their own backup systems. MM might think that WP is his baby but needs to tone it down. I wouldn't be surprised if other hosting companies are doing similar "under the radar" because it is a potential resource hog.
