Wood pigeon & Racing pigeon raising squabs

  • My racing pigeon paired up with a wood pigeon male.They mated and got eggs together. Now the chicks are growing really well. The wood pigeon feeds the babies really well and keeps them warm too.
    There is a chance that the dad isn't really the wood pigeon, but just another racing pigeon male. What do you think?
    Update: The racing pigeon female mated with another racing pigeon. So the wood pigeon was raising pure racing squabs.

    You should take them away at 4 days at the latest and hand raise them because there is something in domestic pigeon milk that kills the hybrids at a certain age.

      I thought getting it straight from the source was the healthiest? What's causing it?

      @Mj Ali - @stafno Smith is actually right. Wood pigeon x domestic pigeon hybrids won't survive longer then 4/5 days if raised by their parents. Something in the crop milk causes that. Also creating hybrids will only work if you cross a female wood pigeon x domestic pigeon male. I got all this information from someone that has experience with wood pigeon hybrids.

      Did they send you updates? If you Google "picture wood pigeon-feral pigeon hybrid" you can see pictures. To me the offspring look more like the feral than the Wood Pigeon. I understand they are all sterile, however. On TH-cam, they have a video of an offspring of dove-pigeon hybrid too. They also are sterile.

    Will they be fertile when they grow up

    • @Dutchpoultry1
      @Dutchpoultry1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Male hybrid pigeons are fertile, but the females are always sterile even when they lay eggs.

    My problems with this video are, I was taught that a fertile outcome of such a mating is extremely rare, and you at most would get only one squab. You never show evidence of both alleged parents at the nest at one time, and the depiction of squabs are at two developmental stages, so hard to determine if both clutches are indeed the same. What did amaze me, however, is the wood pigeon allowed to free-fly. I was also taught if you release them, they will fly away. So, who knows? As earlier requested, could you please update us to relinquish these doubts? Thanks! Ruth

      The squabs in this video turned out as pure domestic pigeons. But a few months ago they hatched two hybrid babies. Unfortunately they both died after 4 weeks but it they were clearly hybrids. I have the knowledge now from other people that bred hybrids before so I will do it different this spring. If you wanna see the hybrid squabs or just more videos of my birds you can better follow my instagram page (@dutchpoultry). Send me a dm and I will send you the videos. Happy holidays!

      The wood pigeon male is now 6 years old. Its raised by my domestic pigeons and it also acts like one. It actually prefers to stay in the coop, but whenever the domestics fly their daily rounds it will fly with them. More people said it's impossible, but as you can see its not haha. Also what would be my profit to lie about it.

    The 2 pigeons you show ( not the babies) did not make those 2 chicks. Egg replacement possibly. Chick swap maybe. But a cock racing pigeon did NOT pair up with a hen woodpigeon and create the 2 chicks.

    • @Dutchpoultry1
      @Dutchpoultry1  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's false. The wood pigeon and racing pigeon did pair up. They even mated and you van clearly see in the video they are a pair. The wood pigeon male is even pecking the female to go to the nest (Male pigeons do that when the female is about to lay a egg). The problem is that wood pigeon male x racing pigeon female is not possible. So what happened is that another racing pigeon male raped that racing pigeon female, that's how the eggs became fertile and hatched ;)
