I absolutely agree... Capcom made the hugely overshadowed Mega Man 7 and the awesome Ghouls N' Ghosts. But both companies made many of my favorite games growing up and I play many of them still to this day.

Good thing that the franchise owner is Konami, only rights to produce for the said silent hill game, all inclusions of the law that applies to owners of the copyright, license holder, patented, trademarks and registrations, registered. SME General practices, practioners, all fields of studies are orderly and efficient.

It's a tie for me as well. I remember back in the day my friends and I used to say "If you get a game and see a Capcom/Konami logo, you know you're about to get your ass kicked." If they were an old school Wrestling Tag Team they'd be The Legion Of Doom. Tough as nails, just brutal asskicking, but you keep coming back to see more. I mean, Konami had Zombies Ate My Neighbors but Capcom had Breath Of Fire. In the 80s/90s it was pure gold from both of them.

Ever since the NES days, every time I saw either Konami or Capcom on the cover I picked the game up. And it was extremely rare that I was disappointed. I cannot possibly pick a winner out of the two, for me they are both godly developers right up there with Nintendo, Sega, Squaresoft and Enix.

I know a lot of people say Konami's decline started with their feud with staff, but in all honesty, it started around the late 90's That's when I noticed they started killing off their IP's one by one with only a couple of AAA games and the rest being mostly low budget titles with popular IP's to fund their killer ones. All the while they were moving to Pachinko and then the fitness market. This became super evident after the devoured Hudson Soft and pretty much sat on that companies hundreds worth of IP's and did nothing with them.
Still their Konami and Hudson Soft library is amazing and their contribution to gaming is often overlooked because they had fewer killer titles that changed the industry, but were always the forerunners in music, gameplay, and quality. Even their game programming vastly put Capcom to shame in most of their titles.
Capcom on the other hand has been mostly consistent with their titles and IP's. However, they don't always put stellar effort, sometimes just repackaging the same game with some updates such as the Street Fighter series. But they have reinvented genre of gaming so many times over. However, the biggest flaw with the company is one that gamers never see, which is their finances, while Konami is scummy, they are financially well off as a company, but Capcom has come close to bankruptcy a couple of times due to their management and odd market choices.
Sadly enough, I love Capcom a bit more even though I'm as much as Konami fanboy simply because they have been committed to their IP's a bit more and seem to at least foster creativity in their teams which is important in gaming. The gaming industry is as much as work of art and entertainment as it is an feat of engineering, and Capcom ha rarely let us down compared to Konami.

You have IP's such as Castlevania, Silent Hill, Gradius, Contra, Suikoden, and Metal gear vs Street fighter, Resident Evil, Ghouls and Ghost, Mega Man, Ace Attorney, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, Breath of Fire, Okami, and Dead Rising. On paper Capcom all day but my heart loves MGS, Silent Hill, and Castlevania.

Yeah, one-vs-one fighters aren't Konami's forte (not counting [acquired and later consolidated
into Konami] Hudson Soft's Bloody Roar series). The only one they have of note is the SNES version
of TMNT: Tournament Fighters, but that's more of a cult favorite compared to Capcom's Street Fighter,
Darkstalkers, and Marvel fighters. Castlevania Judgment is another 1v1 fighter from Konami, but
      YMMV on that one.

Yeah it's safe to say that back in the ps2 days everything with Capcom on the bottom of it was getting a second glance from me. They had me hooked with everything they did. I wasn't great at resident evil, or the original megaman games, but street fighter, pocket fighter, puzzle fighter, devil may cry, devil kings (sengoku basara) monster hunter, marvel VS Capcom 1 and 2.
Konami has a strong hit with castlevania, even though I was absolutely trash at castlevania adventure I'd still play it just for the music, symphony of the night is what really got me interested. And down the line, Yu-Gi-Oh! I still haven't even played metal gear outside of rising revengence. I have a few of them I believe.

It is impossible to decide, since there would be a third thing to consider, a sort of model to which both would need to aspire. That said, the only way left for us would be the subjectivism. As I didn't really experienced videogames that much until the 128 bit era (even though there was a nes in my house and I had a gbc), today I find easier to find the influence of metal gear in the way videogames are made, not only stealth games, bit videogames in general. Street fighter and megaman are unquestionable, but street fighter reduces their impact to fighting games. Megaman is incredible too, but there are less games following its steps. We are talking about giants here, and the minimum difference could decide the subjective winner. For metal gear only, I choose Konami.

Capcom wins for still producing quality games to this day. They support and listen to their fanbase and there's a huge community centered around Street Fighter. I love Castlevania and Contra, but Konami has nothing to even compare to the following of the Street Fighter franchise.

Capcom was terrific at creating memorable games out of a number of titles (like Ducktales). However, I believe Konami has stronger IPs overall. Sure, Final Fight was a good beat 'em up, but it doesn't compare to TMNT the Arcade game, and DEFINITELY doesn't stand up to Turtles in Time. As for 2d platforming, both companies have very strong offerings. A tip of the hat goes to Capcom for truly defining an entire genre with Streetfighter II. However, I would pick Konami.

Yep. Konami probably owns more iconic IP, but they've been steadily going downhill for a decade or more. Capcom might not have quite as many recognizable properties, but they've consistently been a top-tier dev from the 80s to today without ever even having a major slump. That puts them in the very upper echelon of game devs.

So true... what is Konami even doing now since they fired Kojima? They used to have a ton of awesome arcade and co-op action games in the 8-16 bit era but I feel like after they hit it HUGE with Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill they started neglecting their other franchises and projects. Honestly, I can't tell you what they have been doing since then or at all lately other than trying to recreate his IP without him or his team which would cause serious backlash and probably not live up anywhere close.
Capcom is still making good games, but they still are doing what they have been since SFII and its ~ a dozen remakes. With them, if you want to play the game with all of the current and potential (guaranteed) future content, don't be surprised if you end up buying the same game 10 times, each with an extra character or 2, a few minor changes to a moveset, or stage backgrounds. You could wait, but if you play competitively at all (fighters being the most likely genre) you are going to be way behind in training your muscle memory and learning the new mechanics, etc. And its not like it was a sudden, unplanned bug that needed to be fixed, new characters added by popular request or buff/nerf them for balance purposes; they systematically roll out these minor changes and market them as entirely new versions of the game that need to be purchased as such. It should be either a free patch to fix if its a bug or let the character be bought on its own.
TBH I don't even really like that second idea -- or expansion DLCs in general either. Devs and pubs should wait to release the game with all the planned content right away instead of forcing customers to gradually pay for "upgrades". Once they've created a dedicated player, of course they are going to want the chance to play the whole game and suddenly a new expansion takes away their 100% completion -- its like pushing drugs on an addict, you know it's hard for them to resist

That being said, they have probably made more games on my all time top fav than any other devs/publishers. Just said to see what happened to Konami and tired of Capcom's marketing strategies (not that they're alone but sine SFII ' they seem to have really made a habit out of that)

It seems like no one ever mentions Konami's 3D racing games. Most were arcade exclusives and victims of suicide batteries but they made really great stuff. They had Midnight Run, Winding Heat, the GTI Club series, the Thrill Drive series and best of all, the Racing Jam series. In fact I'd call the Racing Jam games the greatest forgotten racing games of all time.

Exactly, they never really had the foothold that the others had. But they were making some pretty unique stuff. Thrill Drive was an inspiration for the Burnout series and Racing Jam 1 was really the only arcade racer that ever had Gymkhana courses.

Konami had some pretty cool sprite-based racers as well, like WEC Le Mans, Over Drive, and Racin' Force. Those last two aren't currently emulated, but WEC Le Mans is super underrated. It's pretty hard to get used to at first (at least for me) but once you know how to play it it's a really fun and intense game.
