"I feel confident as I step into my bath, remembering I've already applied my Rubbermaid daisies." I swear I think of this line every time I step into the shower.
One of her most BRILLIANT pieces from a super spectacular movie! It was breathtaking in the theatre and we never laughed harder. Patrice Russen is a musical genius!
Thank you SO Much. I first saw Sandra in 1986 n the East Village & several times later into 1988. Funnily enough , I got to see her before the pandemic at The Karen & Richard Carpenter Performing Arts Center. And as I recall, Sandra used to do a few Karen Carpenter jokes in her early NYC act.
André Courrèges (9 March 1923 - 7 January 2016) was a French fashion designer. He was known for his streamlined 1960s designs influenced by modernism and futurism, exploiting modern technology and new fabrics. Courrèges defined the go-go boot and, along with Mary Quant, is one of the designers credited with inventing the miniskirt.
Wow!! Thanks for posting. I never saw a clip from the show before. I had a cassette tape that I listened to about 30 years ago. This brought back alot of memories 😀
Watch the whole movie…the audio cassette was from the off Broadway show, includes the Stevie Nicks tribute. The flick was directed by Nicolas Roeg, of Man Who Fell to Earth (Bowie) Don’t Look Now (Sutherland/Christie in Venice) and Performance (Jagger) fame.
Required Valentine’s Day viewing. Bummed BB is gone, but Sandy’s homage is brilliant. I remember hearing a different version of this (a live, non-movie recording) that has slightly different pace, energy, emphasis- my hair UP! …some baby’s breath… But still appreciate you posting. Saw her NYE eve and she’s still got it going. As recommended by Cosmopolitan magazine! ❤❤❤
that is the way to appreciate her. as a camp parody of the out-loud inner monologue of a real vegas/lounge act who actually has some talents. for her down a notch watch "hudson hawk"
This wonderful sketch seems to be an homage to Armistead Maupin's TALES OF THE CITY book series. If you haven't read them or listened to them I highly recommend them! However, I'm glad Sandra created this.... I don't think Armistead would look this good in the same silver lame' ensemble
fair enough, just offering a different perspective. as a fan of 'theater of the absurd' i appreciate her, though i admit, i can't handle more than a couple of minutes.
She can walk the runway for some of the greatest designers, and yet...she is too talented of a lady to be confined into a box. She can sing, act, but we prefer her to be the funny girl that we all know!!!
Ah, thank you! So what would that look like? I can only find references to dance clothing or the cult leader. I know it seems obsessive, but I'm trying to envision what she is looking like as she leaves for work. This monologue is so brilliantly descriptive and funny.
Awesome. But...she chose something from "Caresh" (sp) to wear. Never heard of that brand. I got the other references. Anyone know what she was talking about?

Same!!! 🌸🌸🌸
Really encaptures an era that only the people who lived during can understand. an incredible time piece. 💙👌
You are dead on!!
@@jfrch67 Thank you 🙏

I had to keep going back to the theater because I laughed so hard I knew I was missing some brilliant bon mots. And I was right!
When I saw this in the theater, I literally fell over on to the floor laughing
It IS brilliant!

I saw the stage show and this film. Brilliant!
"the crookedest street in the world, and I never felt straighter"
Post more please....Nowhere on the net anymore, Its a Gem!!! (3 years later!)
It took me ages to track down a copy. My vhs copy died. For the last few years there was No picture - but I still played it
Always a Warrior, and in a Most Endearing way. Must be hard being a Legend Before Your Time. Proud of you, and a decades old connection
"HOLD THE CREAM!!!"
I'd love to.
The one.The Only.Sandra Bernard ! Thank You

yeah there was a live recording of the stage show that was released and it is as you described
People say this far too often: "the most under-rated"...
...But Sandra IS the real-deal, insanely funny, and topical. Pay attention folks.
"Yeaa! Woww!!" at the end is hilarious. She used to say that after cheap jokes on letterman
I almost got a hernia when I first saw this film in a theater. Her lampooning of self-possession and celebrity were just spot on.
I love that I got to participate in this great movie!
This was my favorite part of the movie. Fucking genius. Thanks for posting.
Hi danaordane,
Finocchio's was a female impersonator bar in North Beach in San Francisco. The patronage was largely tourist and straight.
"I look REALLY pretty..."

Mmmmm Delicious...But a Chair Is Not A HOUSE!
Sandra is my goddess.
I was in this film...
Thank you💗💗💗
She has a 100 times better voice than her old friend Madonna.
Rest in peace, Burt.
I lot control of my bodily functions at 'baby's breath'. Lol
Genius!
I think you're right! I looked it up and it wasn't the Waco killer! Ha! Thank you for letting me know. xo

LOVE that she loves Burt B
I think she's saying Courrèges.
Alright Marriage has NEVER been a Priority to Me BUT I Like to Keep My Options Open...What GIRRLLXXX DOESN'T??

💯🎶♥️🐐
Maybe that's the joke, jbauer72, dance wear to work...
Maybe someone can verify, but great attention to detail! :)

Courreges
@@gravelroadpress5026 Thank you! ❤️

Hi jbauer72,
I believe it's spelled Koresh
B4inSF , Courrèges.
Courrèges
Brilliant parody but misses the bull’s eye by omitting the live audience. Better had she just filmed her concert show
Frank Darmstadt - #LIES
She fell off the planet - - why?
... oh God no .. she's still around .. still rockin' on .. still funny. .. but, time moves on.
She was in the excellent TV series "Pose" recently- did a great job.
Wow. She went from this to making racist jokes? Gee. What a bummer.
