- Hi Guys,
Come along with me as we take a tour of one of the schools on Pico island, Azores.
We learn a bit about the quality, the standards and overall education of the school/schools. My tour guides were Marisa(teacher) and Rafael(principal/teacher) of the Lajes school.
The grades go from Kindergarten to 12, over 500 students, 30 classes, full curriculum, 3 buildings, healthy restaurant, lots of lounges, and more. I would also have to add that this school in Lajes was totally up to date, safe and high tech smart.
We hope you enjoyed learning a bit about the school and overall education.
Love having you with us on our journey

Thank you. This was one of my questions from way back. It's a great topic for people who are considering moving to the island with a family.
Brilliant and amazing informative beautiful vlog...
It reminds me about my visit of Ponta Delgada in Feb,1989 while we were pulling back from Charleston SC to Sardinia- Italy via Bermuda...
Wonderful amazing and kind hearted welcoming people...
Stay Blessed and keep it up 👍
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed the video. Wonderful culture, people and sense of community! Stay blessed as well!
Hi Carlos, Thank you for doing a video on the schools. I was wondering about the quality of education in the islands and about children's resources in general. I have many more questions saved when I see you at the Workshop next month.
You are very welcome Edward, glad you enjoyed this video. I learned a little about this visit to the school. Looking forward to meeting you. Take good care. Saude.
Very impressive. I can imagine going up and down all those outside stairs keeps you in shape. What about subjects like Home Ec., or trades (woodworking, electrical, automotive),?
I thought it was as well. You are talking about trade classes, it does not. It would be brilliant and needed if they had a school like that, especially with the main trades etc. Take care!
Great video and very informative, school there has definitely changed from when I was a student in the Externato da Madalena! With that said, would you be able to arrange a visit to the secondary school in Madalena. Would like to know more about their curriculum also. Thank you and keep up the good job you are
doing!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. We might do another school tour, not sure when. Cheers
Great video! Thank you so much! Is this sort of school/education typical in the Azores? Wondering if something similar would exist on Sao Miguel?
Thank you! The big island of Sao Miguel would have more options similar to this. They also have the top university in the Azores. Take care!
Thank you wasn’t expecting this video but very interesting and I think we are just so use to schools in Canada or USA. Which don’t look like that or give that kind of education either. Thank you for the video
It is different than most of our videos, I thought it was worth sharing. I was impressed. Cheers
Gostei muito de ver essa linda escola obrigado pelo o vídeo 🏤👍👍Lindo
Muito obrigado eu, gostei que gosto. Saude!
I will give that school five stars
From what I saw, me too! Take care Jose!
Wow now they go higher grades when I went to school was 2 grades awesome more learning Carlos why don’t you laurel start showing homes for sale so we can see them thank you
How things have changed, important to keep improving the education system. We will do another video on real estate. Cheers
I was wondering about this, mahalo
Looks like a great school. I especially appreciate the healthy food (while U.S. schools still serve pop/soda and pizza). Is there also a school for special needs children with conditions like autism?
It was definitely worth sharing. Cheers
There is a school for special needs children in Madalena.
This Lajes school also has special needs programs.
Still looks like a warehouse to me 😂
The most important for me is not the look, but what happens inside. I would have done the architecture a bit differently as well. Cheers
