    This is my favorite video so far, my Grand Uncle was a Korean War Veteran. After surviving the Bataan Death March in the Philippines he went on to fight in Korea to fight for freedom. I never met him, but my Dad told me stories about him, and I really admired him. My Mom and Sister are big fans of Korea today, and my Grand Uncle fought for freedom that the south have today.

    As a Chinese individual currently residing in South Korea, I earnestly hope that my homeland and the Korean Peninsula, encompassing Mainland China, Taiwan, North Korea, and South Korea, can collectively strive to prevent war to the greatest extent possible, engage in profound communication and dialogue, and peacefully resolve their differences and conflicts. War will bring no benefits to any party involved, and despite significant disparities in values and ideologies, I firmly believe that peace and unity will ultimately prevail.

    As a native South Korean, thank you MrSpherical for covering the Korean War through this very entertaining video! I've seen some comments where they take things literally, here are some additional information that's better to be explained:
    - 1:24 Initial divination of Koreas (38th parallel) was actually a straight line along N38°.
    - 5:12 Although elections started right after South Korea was born, corruption & manipulation was strong, so technically legitimate voting started after late 80s (which IS accurately written in 8:16).
    - 7:49 NK leader at that time was Kim Il Sung, and I'm sure a lot of people knows this.
    - 9:10 Success for advancing towards the North were thanks to successful invasion in Incheon that didn't show in this video (Battle in Incheon).
    It's still very fun to watch though, so I've shared the video with my friends nonetheless :))
    P.S. Seems like I can hear some keyboard typing in the background, did some subtitles got invisible in the final video?

      Do you really believe you are a sovereign nation? if so, then you are not. Look what happens to American allies. Your birth rates are all time low, you have a ages, drunk society which not a society anymore. You should never trust others for aid. especially Americans. It is good to ask assistance but overdepedence is like you've became slave of usa. Your military is not yours but American military interferes in your political affairs. If you think that being a lapdog is fine, it's your choice.

      @raemmio2761 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      I mean it doesn’t seem accurate at all. During most of the Cold War. South Korea was very authoritarian. It’s economy was worse than North Korea. South Korea only became a sort of democracy in 1987. Before Korea was occupied by the US and USSR it was for a short time Turning into a socialist country with a “peasant council” with democratic policies. The south was only good for landowners and other middle to high status people as people would flee from the south due to political execution. Also during the war Japan generals from ww2 ( yes the fascist generals that occupied Korea during the war) were put in charge by the US. With the US bombing 1.5 million civilians on the north side and made the geography not usable even today.
      Not to mention the ideology of capitalism was not that popular when the dictator of South Korea was put in place by the US.
      Now don’t get me wrong current North Korea is nothing like it’s past or close to how Korea was before the forceful split. Saying North Korea was the aggressor in this situation is historically inaccurate.

    As a chinese, I fell really sorry for the thing both South and North Korean have been experienced. An entire nation was forcibly divided into two countries by external forces due to Cold War between USA and Soviet Union. Then there was brutal war and people with same background killed each other, and to this day there is not enough communication with each other. Imagine if the Korean Peninsula were unified, the technology from the south and the nuclear weapons from the north.

    • @zsombortelek8411
      @zsombortelek8411 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mani_mincraft It has a pro-American bias. While the pro-American bias in itself is not a bad thing (I mean, this IS an American TH-cam Channel) when its used in the right context (like Pearl Harbor), here America and South Korea are put in a more favourable light than they were.
      The government that America set up in South Korea was not democratic. It was an Illminist (basically Korean fascist) one-party dictatorship that repressed leftist activity (which there was a lot of, mind you). There were several leftist uprisings against this South Korean government, like in Jeju. Depicting the South Korea of the 40's and 50's the same as 21st century South Korea is misleading to say the least. It wasn't that better than the North.
      The Korean People's Republic (PRK) is depicted as a baby. While that part was really cute, it just reinforces a false narrative that Korean people should not be able to chose their destiny for themselves. The PRK was a provisional government that aimed to establish a neutral, social democratic country, they had a clear vision for the country. It's just that America didn't like the idea of a leftist Korea, while Soviet Union didn't like the idea of a non-communist Korea that wasn't allied to them. The PRK was outlawed in the American-controlled South, while in the Soviet-controlled North, it was reorganized and bastardized into the totalitarian communist dictatorship as we know it today, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
      America is depicted as being opposed to the division of Korea, when as I've already pointed out, they weren't.
      Edit: I'm not an expert on the topic, the information I have about the PRK is mostly from this video of Fredda's, I think it's worth the watch: th-cam.com/video/3XKZbXo4wp8/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUGZnJlZGRh

      Yes, they were under de-facto martial law and had to temporarily bolster a capitalist dictatorship to restart their economy. But that was out of necessity after the devastation of world war 2 and it was only temporary like with the ROC.
      The ultimate goal of both the ROC and ROK was to be a thriving country with democratic ideals and they achieved it.
      North Korea on the other hand was ruled by a hardline communist dictator known as Kim Il Sung and he had no intention whatsoever to make Korea a democratic nation in the future but instead to expand on his family dynasty.
      Just look at the two koreas today, North Korea had the advantage and a more abundance of natural resources but somehow they are still failing as a country under the leadership of Kim Un Jung and won’t even let their own citizens LEAVE.

It is truly tragic that people who were divided from two different countries and who were once the same people fought with guns to the point of shedding blood and breaking their bodies. As a Korean, I hope that South and North Korea will be unified as soon as possible and that we can live together again singing the songs we used to sing together. And I hope that this video will keep people from forgetting this terrible war fought between the same people.

    As a Mongolian, our relations with both Koreas is kind of weird. When N.Korea was established, we were the 2nd country to recognize its independence (First was USSR and the third was China). Since we were under direct rule of USSR, we had good relations with N.Korea. About South Korea, they really hated us (until we became democratic). After our communist system was abolished, Japan and S.Korea were like, "Can we be friends?" and we were like, " Ok. " But N.Korea didn't get abandoned, tho. We still have close relations with them despite the fact that we are sending their refugees to South Korea.
    6:57 Also, we repaid them with Soviet Union in 1939 (Battle of Khalkin Gol) and in 1945 (Invasion of Manchuko).
