The Victory of Adwa!! ================ March 1st 1896(ተካትት 23, 1888), a day that went down in the annals of history when the well mechanized, well trained and armed to the teeth modern army was devastated and defeated by bare foot, mostly armed with spears, swords and outdated rifles Ethiopian patriots.Volunteer fighters of over one hundred thousand Ethiopians led by their beloved king and queen Emperor Menelik II and Etege Tayitu faced the enemy head on and showed the enemy the arts of fighting and the honor of dying for the love freedom and country. This is indeed a day that went in the annals of history as a debacle and embarrassment for modern European army to be devastated and humiliated by third world African army. A victorious day indeed not only to Ethiopia but also to all people of color the world over. It sets the standard and became a bright star example to all freedom fighters in the Caribbean’s, Latin Americans and African Americans. Many scholars, political agitators and Pan Africanists leaders wrote about it extensively. In fact both the Pan African and “Back to Africa” movements were inspired by the Victory of Adowa. What a gift by Ethiopians,Emperor Menelik II and Etege Taytu to the world! Truly a gift of pride and dignity!! Oh how proud am I to be born in that blessed land! It is priceless to be an Ethiopian!!
