It's highly manipulative to say that Marlo Thomas was "advancing the cause of female empowerment". She was a very immature raging feminist who solely represented women. So, there's nothing fair whatsoever about promoting female unity. Ironically, she ended up having no kids, but becoming a step mother to 5 children. That's what Feminism did for her. Now, several decades later, we've learned that Feminism was literally a war against Western Civilization.

Marlo seems to be a nice, charming person, and I’ve always loved her voice. And of course she was gorgeous. I just can’t imagine who put the ideas in her head that she needed to have the work done.

I totally understand having the surgery (if necessary and you have the money and are brave enough) but, not to such extreme’s where your nose collapses, like Michael Jackson. I’m 75 and it’s rough getting old but honestly I think it’s better to just age gracefully rather than to be a spectacle and I honestly think this delicate little beauty, Marlo, would of aged very well naturally.

Every time I see her today, I am stunned by her almost unreal change. When I was growing up, she was one of my idols. I thought, it I only looked like Marlo Thomas. Now, she has had so much botox, she can barely move her mouth which inhibits her ability to display her once gorgeous smile. She, Kim Novak, and Barbara Eden are in the same category of completely destroying their faces to look young, which didn't work. She would have looked beautiful with a few wrinkles especially showing her glowing smile.
We all get old and lose our looks. It’s what’s inside that matters and Marlo seems to be a nice person.

As a woman, I can say any ideas I've had of getting 'work done' disappear quickly when I see how botched the rich get. If they can afford the best surgeons, and still get botched - no thanks. I'll just try to age gracefully.

Desmond Atholl (who was a long-time butler/domo for Thomas and Phil Donahue) wrote the book That Girl and Phil: An Insider Tells What Life Is Really Like in the Marlo Thomas/Phil Donahue Household in which he described what a complete diva Thomas was. She was verbally abusive to all the help and also to people in the service industry/construction workers (who worked in their homes) and anyone else who crossed her path. Atholl also detailed episodes of others who wrote to him to confirm that they too were abused by her

When she was young Marlo had a nose job. Her nose was like her father's ( Danny Thomas) so she wanted a smaller nose, which is understandable. Don't know what went wrong with her nose in her elderly years, however.

I have always Loved, admired and enjoyed her work. She has always been so intelligent and naturally beautiful but what happened to her self esteem as to totally distort and ruin her outside appearance? This, I do not understand.

It's shocking to see these stars try to recapture their youth. Phil Donahue has aged naturally, which makes Marlo look freakish beside him - she now resembles Michael Jackson. If you're beautiful inside, you don't need to wreck your outside. Sadly, it looks way worse than natural ageing.

She is 86 years old!!! She looks great for her age! I'm 60, and someone told me I looked like Marlo Thomas in 2016. I took it as a compliment. I hope I look as good as Marlo at 86.

She was wonderful in That Girl. I never followed her career so I don't know how she aged as she got older. But she was a beautiful girl and I can't imagine that she needed all that plastic surgery. 😮
My favorite memory was when she explained the twist on the ending of her show, That Girl. She said something to the effect of not being able to let woman down by Ann making the choice to marry at that time and give up her Career. She thought just letting people guess at how their happily ever after was like would be a better choice. It fit in with the burgeoning Feminism, Woman's Lib ERA movement evolving in the 70,s !

Let's be real. Marlo was in her twenties when she starred in That Girl. That was over 57 years ago. Of course, she doesn't look the same today as she did then. What human does? Not to brag, but I was a real looker in my youth, but you wouldn't recognize me today. Bottom line, we all age eventually. I think Marlo is attractive for a woman her age (a little too much work though). As Marilyn Monroe sang in one of her movies "Men grow cold as girls grow old AND WE ALL LOSE OUR CHARMS IN THE END! Marlo remains attractive and has a most beautiful heart.
Beauty comes from the inside out not everybody retains the face of a teenager. Everybody eventually loses their looks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everybody is not classed as beautiful but their is beauty in people who are not attractive. What I mean is not everybody who likes someone is attracted to only good looking people. Like my brother likes big noses in women. I like. Pretty eyes high cheek bones and sexy voices and great smiles and kooky personalities l like people with unusual personalities. I love dark hair but I also love what looks best on a person it could be gray hair. I have different tastes for men. They never look alike. All my exes look different. You might say I really don’t have a type but I love someone who is not perfect. Neither am I. I told him to quit putting me on a pedestal. God does that to me too and he really doesn’t have to. Marlo was such a beautiful young woman. If only we could understand beauty is on the inside (and outside at times). She grew up in the middle of movie stars. I can understand her wanting to be perfect. I don't like to say anything but whoever did her nose pinched it too tight and now she has to deal with it. Maybe this is just how a nose job grows and changes over time. As long as Phil loves her and she loves him, that is what counts really. I liked her hair dark. I know we are all supposed to lighten our hair as we grow old but she had such beautiful hair. Now I feel bad writing this in the comments. It's just that sometimes doctors do good work and sometimes they don't. I've had a lot of skin cancers closed by plastic surgeons so I get it. She is still pretty to me.

Marlo did have rhinoplasty when very young as she did have a very prominent nose naturally like her father. Over the years it seems that she had additional unnecessary procedures which have altered her appearance but having said that the woman is 86 years old. Given her advanced age I don't see her as looking that different from other seniors of her generation. We all age folks, some more gracefully than others!
The title which you chose is really sleazy and you also showed a couple of scenes where the actress was not Marlo. Regarding Marlos's appearance, she had a nose job early in her career which was O.K. for the times, but not great.
It is now known that some nose jobs do not age well because there was not enough scaffolding of bone and cartilage which remains in order to keep the nose from collapsing with age. She probably had more surgery performed to correct that issue. Unfortunately, it was not especially successful.
Regarding other surgeries, it is always a function of the skill of the plastic surgeon and the individual healing process. As the late psychologist Eda LeShan used to say, "Aging is not for sissies". And it can be added, especially not under the microscope of public scrutiny and in high definition.

I always loved Marlo that girl was my favorite of all time shows we all get old she is a wonderful person inside and out
I adore her to no end, but I am surprised as a spokeswoman for women that she would not be accepting of a woman aging. She looks like a cartoon, as most of the aging women of Hollywood do. I bet if she had left her face alone she would be lovely for a woman of her age. I bet Phil would not have minded. Her career is notable and her work for St Judes is beyond reproach. Hats off to her!

I always loved That Girl and thought Marlo was so beautiful. I looked up to her growing up and along with Elizabeth Montgomery and Barbara Eden they were all my idols. Let's face it growing old isn't pretty, no matter what we do we can't stop time. The older we get the more work it takes to stay youthful. Some take this a bit far and with Marlo it does. I can appreciate her not wanting to age but when it becomes disfiguring then that is a wake up call. At this point at 86 years old it's definitely time to stop.

She was beautiful, plastic surgeries don't help you grow old gracefully. It ruins you.
I don't understand why she thought she needed to change her nose? Her nose looked good when she was younger and maybe she'd already had a nose job then. The cheek implants and nose look awful, if not for that she'd look fine. Funny thing is, she's not someone I would have expected to go overboard with plastic surgery.
St. Judes is a wonderful charity . I would wish that there was a charity that helps people (who have little money) with their elderly parents - finding good care & housing , etc. America needs to find an answer to this .

Wonder why she altered her nose when the one she had was small and cute already? I wonder about these surgeons. It’s like they are telling people they “need” something just to fulfill some ego based idea they have in their own heads.
I love/loved “That Girl” and all the things Marlo has done in her career and support of St. Jude’s. However, she could use a new fashion coordinator. Yes, we all get old (I am 75), but most of us should not wear shoulder length hair as we age, nor dress like we are still teenagers. There are ways to be fashionable yet current, but for someone who was so fashion forward when she was young, she misses the mark currently (in the photos I have seen).
