    So good!! Thankyou. You were able to put into words things that I thought were true but didn't know for sure.

    Excellent message and as a retired teacher of 30 years-spot on. Applies perfectly to pickle ball and the balance between open play, fun tournaments, and ones that you’re pushing yourself into for higher level experience. Very helpful.

    Hey Brian. Glad you did this video and I find it applicable not only to Pickleball, but to other skills as well.
    Applicable to me, because I can practice with intention. Now I am practicing my 3rd shot drop and resets on all levels of skill. And I no longer care if I win or lose. I’m just trying to hone the skill. Even if it means losing more often.
    I’m also going to apply this to my son, who is learning how to be an epee fencer. He always practices to “win,” and doesn’t like to try new skills.
    This is next level stuff. And I hope to see more of it coming!

      Carey, thanks for the comment. Great to hear. Yeah, there’s certainly a time and place for winning, but when you have the power to check the ego at the door, you’ll see how much more effective what you’re doing becomes. Great to hear you’ll pass it on to your son!

    Love this!! Sparked an idea that I’m going to share with my friend group! We will tell each other 3 things we are going to work on during our Rec match and pick one and see if they notice which of the 3 we chose to work on during the match!

    This is a banger. I definitely play more loosely and practice my weaknesses against newer players but have never done it consciously for improvement. This will have me thinking more when I play different skill levels thank you!

    Good stuff my man. When I play new players I always find something to work on. Could be my 3rd shot drop, maybe backhand dinks. And when I play against higher skilled players I like to pick their brains on strategy and shot selections etc.

      100%. Another thing Greg said that’s applicable to what you’re saying “situations dictate tactics.” Thanks for watching!

    I very much agree with this. I only really have time to drill with my mom who is about a 3.0, but I find that I can focus more on trying new things and seeing what works, doesn’t work, and what I need to improve on. This also help to put in better muscle memory in my shots when I play against players who are at a higher level.

    • @buildingpickleball
      @buildingpickleball  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely. Given she’s your primary practice partner, as you’re learning from practice she will, too, so it’ll raise both of you up. I’ll get into it in a later video but I’ll make a point about the environment (diff players) as well. It’ll tie into this idea of “muscle memory”.

    Enjoyed your presentation. Look forward to more.
    Question: Should you share your intent with your playing partner or just keep it to yourself ?
    My guess is keep it to yourself. Most rec partners don't care about your personal improvement. They want and expect you to play to win.
    Your advice, please. Thank you.

    • @buildingpickleball
      @buildingpickleball  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. I’m going to be going over this in a video very soon.
      If you’re referring to open play and your doubles partner, short answer, yes. Get them on the same page. Communication overall is just generally beneficial.
      Something I found helpful to break the ice and have that conversation is to just ask before the game starts “hey, you working on anything today?”
      Keep in mind is to also not care what they think if you’re in the experimentation phase. We can’t be afraid to experiment because of what the other person might think. Doesn’t sound like you have that issue, which is great. Stick to your task, despite what others may think.

    Great information. I do see players that hire a coach for instructions then play the same way they did before the instucton.

    Lol really interesting and timely….have been wondering this myself…I have won several tournaments at the 4.5 level….but I drill really exclusively with a 6.20 dupr rated pro player….I get great reps with him, some advice, and the speed of his play…I might win one drill in 15. However, if I try a new shot or technique he might say ,….that is low percentage. The other issue because he is getting better playing with better players it’s hard to know if I am progressing. In the past I have but currently wondering. Very timely information…ty

      My take away from the video was being intentional about what im working on vs different skill set of players. Against players better than me I just need to do what im good at. Against players the same or worse is when I should be experimenting. Putting it concisely was what helped me. Thanks!

    For me it was and is - intent is more important than the result, and to whenever possible maintain a healthy balance of the two when playing.
    Good tips.

    • @buildingpickleball
      @buildingpickleball  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Jayesh. Absolutely - “intent is more important than the result” was straight from Greg. Goes to the point of winning and losing in practice in most cases does not matter. You can lose and get more out of that game than if you were to win, if you set some intentions prior.

    Literally never heard this “myth.” I think the myth you should only practice with players better than you is a myth.
