    I'm planning on getting the 5700, it's just such a ridiculously useful piece of tech that I would almost prioritize it over a decent range finder. I'm leaning towards the more expensive product because it has a longer range calculator, and the rifle I'm kitting out is intended to go out to 1k yards for the sake of the challenge of doing so. None of this tech changes the fact that you still have to achieve the stability and discipline to reach those ranges.

      Damn right, Kent, there is no substitute for good shooting techniques in whatever discipline you are undertaking. The 5700 is a great piece of equipment, though, and although it's your choice, i would recommend getting a rangefinder that can pair with the kestrel 5700. There are plenty available and start at about £400.

      @@PaulHamM3 Don't worry, I also have a range finder on the list. But since I'll be initially working with it at a set range, the kestrel is higher priority. When the time comes to start heading out to the desert in search of longer ranges, the range finder will become a necessity, as well as a quality and attentive spotter to call the "range" cold in case someone wanders too close.

    How many profiles does the Kestrel hold at a time.? Is it just one and every time you change guns you have to upload the information from your phone,,, Or does the kestrel hold more than 1 profile?

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question , you can store as many profiles at as you wish but you can only use one at at time , perfect if your hunting or target shooting with just one calibre .

    • @oldmanpatriot1490
      @oldmanpatriot1490 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulHamM3 Just to clarify, is it the phone app that holds all the profiles and every time you want to shoot a different gun you have to hook up your phone and change the profile.?
      Or does the Kestrel itself hold the profiles and you change the gun without hooking up your phone.?

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the kestrel 2700 the phone holds the profiles on the app , you do something called "load and go" the app streams the profile to your 2700 and you then shoot away , if you want something that does a bit more then you would need to invest in a 5700 i believe

      @@PaulHamM3 Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I do have more than 1 gun, but usually leave my phone behind so it doesnt get ruined. Those things are expensive these days.. does the 2700 give you the option to enter in a different gun manually.? or is it strictly by the phone app.?

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can ask as many questions as you like mate ! Yes the 2700 only holds one profile at a time so you NEED your phone with you should you choose to change calibres , its entirely up to you and the type of shooting your going to be doing , generally with myself i am only out with one gun at a time

    Hi just seen you vid as I'm thinking of getting one to use with my .223. My question is after taking your first shot do you then have to go through the measuring of the air temp again everytime you take a shot at different ranges? Or can you skip that part and just goto the wind and range measurements? Subscribed 👍

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi jim, thanks for subbing, i no longer own the 2700 but if my memory serves me correct i think you are able just to skip the air temp and go straight to wind and range.

      @@PaulHamM3 ok mate thanks for letting me know 👍

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will always be more accurate if you take the tempature each time, the beauty of it is that you have a proper local weather station in your hands for shots up to 800 yards unlike strelok which gives you a internet dependent weather report. You can put your phone away and just rely on the 2700 and your own shooting ability.

    Does this model measure the elevation of the location I'm shooting? As for as I know it's only measuring temperature and wind speed/direction. Thanks

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I no longer own one but if my memory serves me correct it will measure wind speed , temperature, and direction and due to the fact that it has built in barometrics it will take atmospheric pressure into account when you take a reading.

    the Kestrel 2700 set up well and you it more precise than strelok pro for corrections??

    • @PaulHamM3
      @PaulHamM3  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference between strelok and the kestrel 2700 is that the kestrel gives you live localised enviromental data( wind, atmospheric pressure, temperture). strelok gives you all that to but you need to get the wind direction correct and input that into the app and also strelok can only give you enviromentals based on your location and how close you are to the nearest weather station that is giving your smartphone updated weather/ enviromental conditions.

    Evening Paul
    Toying with this very meter so good to hear the first hand experience of an actual owner user.
    I currently use Strelok Pro and it is good, but as you say, it means multiple bits of kit when taking wind readings, whereas the Kestrel is a one stop shop.
    Looks like I'm spending again! Ah well... small package so I can pass off as being fuck all when it's delivered, unlike the carbon tripod that'll be landing later this week... when the missus is out 🤣

      Ha ha great minds think alike ! Just do what my mate does and say you won it in a competition! The kestrel 2600 is a great bit of kit but you must make sure you do your part and input the correct BC and velocity, hope you enjoy it !

      @@PaulHamM3 lol... you can only 'win' so much!
      As for data, yep, I chronograph my rounds. I shoot Sako factory 70 gr as my primary in .243 but you can't rely on the box as barrel length etc. all play their part.
      99% of my shots are within 200 mtrs, but get much above that and things start to get pushed about.
      Probably a but of fun to use it with 17HMR too, being slower and lighter drop and wind kick in a lot earlier.
      Take care fella👍
