    Disadvantaged children have shown to have a far lower average progress 8 score throughout the UK even in the same schools from similar starting points, often they don't get the same home environment, homework support backup away from

    A good explanation of A8 and P8, but the system goes one step too far: Averaging the scores across all subjects is a far less useful indicator than showing the average scores for individual subjects. The only benefit of averaging overall scores is that a bell curve can be created, circumventing the need to READ and THINK about the results. Ideal for politicians and administrators. Employers and parents choosing schools would find subject averages much more useful.
