I roast mine in 425 oven for just under 20 minutes and like yours every one pops perfectly out of its shell. While oven is heating I just cover them with water and leg them boil till oven is ready.

Here in the Netherlands a forester posted photos of full bags of chestnuts. People had bags full. He told people they are allowed to take a handful a person out of the forest, because these are meant for the animals which have to live on these the whole winter. This is a good amount.

olá... castanhas crocantes.... são feitas, assadas....seja no forno ou numa frigideira... da se, um corte nas costas da castanha parte larga... coloque na panela, ou frigideira, destampada, fogo baixo.... a parte cortada fica para cima.... qdo a castanha abrir no corte, vire a ...p baixo.... deixe por 3 a 4 minutos.... pegue uma abra a e experimente.... fica crocante e semi cozida... uma delícia...... experimente... aqui no Brasil faço desta maneira.... ah.... a casca sai inteirinha..

Yeah OK, works fine for English, Spanish, French and Italian chestnuts, but the markets in the UK sell Chinese chestnuts. These are large and half the price of European chestnuts - However, it is impossible to get the bitter fur coating to stay with the shell. You have to laboriously peel it off the nuts, using a knife. I wonder what the salt does? I will have one more try with these Chinese nuts, using this salt bake method.
