    The cathedrals i prefer in France :
    Amiens (the biggest and most beautiful architecture)
    Chartres (the best preserved stained glasses and statues)
    Reims (the cathedral of French kings coronation)
    Paris (the purest style)
    Albi (the most beautiful interior decoration)
    Bourges
    Strasbourg (the highest)
    Rouen
    Laon (so nice)
    St-Denis (basilique, the oldest gothic church in the world, the sepulture of french kings)

      McCainnn actually the cathedral of Paris is composed of many periods and styles of work from the early 12th century portal of st Anne which was used in the earlier cathedral of st Étienne all the way through to the late 19th century where Viollet le duc used artistic license to « restore » the cathedral by adding the chimeras on the gallery and of course the wooden flèche now lost to the fire in a style different from the original medieval flèche pulled down in the 18th century. His flèche is based on that of Amiens

    there is a mistake about Dijon, you put a picture or the church St Michel in Dijon, but the cathedral of Dijon is St Bénigne.

      i think you're right, but the UK has some absolutely stunning ones, like Gloucester cathedral, Ely cathedral, and Salisbury cathedral. Many more too, but they are less ornate than French minsters, but rather more 'pure' feeling.

    1:55-2:02 This video added the Notre Dame (the Paris cathedral) in this video
    Four years and eleven months later...
    Part of the cathedral got on fire (it's true, find out for yourself because people and news channels are talking about it, and the French president wants to rebuild that part of it)

    • @thibaudduhamel2581

      A lot of cathedrals in this video have burned or been partially destroyed over the years (Chartres Cathedral suffered the exact kind of fire that Notre Dame suffered, and has been rebuilt, Reims cathedral was shelled to rubble by german artillery during the first world war and has been rebuilt, etc...) Notre Dame will rise again.

    Saint-Denis is a basilica. A cathedral is the church where is the cathedra, the seat of a bishop.

    • @larikipe940
      @larikipe940 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      St. Denis is a basilica-cathedral. It was raised to the status of cathedral in 1966 and is the seat of the Bishop of Saint-Denis, Pascal Michel Ghislain Delannoy.

      @haazheelt - A cathedral must have a specific floor plan and orientation. The term cathedral has been applied to huge church buildings. But they come in many styles, period and dimensions. Generally, however, a cathedral is the church wherein the cardinal sits his fat backside on Sunday while he oversees the collection of workers wages to support his lavish lifestyle and unhealthy diet. Oh yes, and to pay for the gold thread used to make his overly ornate dressing gown, skirts and undergarments. Can you imagine what the lat JC would say if he returned to partake of a Sunday mass (mess) in one of these huge cow barns. But the real purpose of these buildings is to give organ builders a place to put the most elaborate, complex, largest and expensive musical instruments that man has developed. For that, we must give thanks with our sympathies to the workers who sacrificed to make those amazing organ halls possible.
      If we have to let those old men in their long dresses wander around speaking in tongues to make that possible, It's all worth it. Sometimes they fall down, but even what's left sound incredible.
      Please don't bother with the hate mail. I delete it.

  • @organbuilder272

    Interestin to see how many of these buildings were modified in their original design before "Completion". Many more are still incomplete. They simply stopped construction - usually the West towers and called in complete. One of them not completes until 1994??? That is like St. John the Divine in New Your. They decided to ignore the dreams of the people who began the project and lave the building unfinished - selling the structural steel fro the West towers for scrap. The Beauvais cathedral has only the Choir and transepts complete. The nave and towers have never even been started. It took 340 years to do a half way job. Narbonne is another one with only the East end complete. - No nave and now West towers. Albi - Does it look complete?? No transepts and the towers looks like it should be the centerpiece of the crossing.

    • @organbuilder272
      @organbuilder272 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @gipcambero To amend my comments above. The Beauvais cathedral can not be considered among the best cathedrals. After all, the nave collapsed. A clear indication of faulty design, possibly bad construction and inattention to progressive structural failures. What is left is a partial building, a mere shell of what once existed and threatened the lived of anyone who entered. Instead of an example of splendor it is a fine illustration of failure.
      There - are you satisfied Mr. Gipcambero?????

  • @jean-luchochart6960
    @jean-luchochart6960 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Albi n'est pas une cathédrale de style gothique mais de style roman.

    • @organbuilder272
      @organbuilder272 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Say What????

    • @jean-luchochart6960
      @jean-luchochart6960 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @gipcambero Certes!
      Mais à l'origine son style était roman et c'est surtout pour ne pas froisser les cathares que les architectes ont choisi ce nouveau style unique au monde!

    • @jean-luchochart6960
      @jean-luchochart6960 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @gipcambero Le cloître de l'encadrement d'origine et la colonnade de droite sont de style roman.
      C'est à partir de cela que le fameux style gothique méridional a été imposé.
      L'ensemble de la cité albigeoise est de style roman.
      Que vous le vouliez ou non c'est une réalité!

    • @jean-luchochart6960
      @jean-luchochart6960 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @gipcambero Ironie ridicule mais comme tu es un érudit j'ose te faire observer quand même que c'est la seule cathédrale avec ce qualificatif et d'autre part les historiens n'ont jamais nié le fait que l'art roman a inspiré ce style!
      Je réitère le fait que la cité d'Albi est très caractéristique de l'art roman.
      Mais tu as le droit de dire le contraire car tu es sans nul doute une architecte au génie ignoré!

    • @jean-luchochart6960
      @jean-luchochart6960 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      J'ajoute au passage que dire"art gothique"est une aberration pour certains architectes qui préfèrent donner l'appellation d'art français médiéval.
      Mais je suppose que tu le sais car tu sais tout!
