I am an RN and also have had cosmetic surgery done in the past as well as fat grafting. Now, I am interested in a filler in the cheek area as it has been about seven years since fat grafting (which I loved, but face was swollen for a few months). A portion of the fat has reabsorbed (normal) and now I am looking for something that doesn't take as long, but with a good result. You have done a wonderful job of explaining the areas that can be treated and before and after photos.
It depends on what filler was used. Hyaluronic fillers like Restylane and Juvederm may be dissolved with an injection called Wydase. This turns the filler into water immediately, and the water is then absorbed over the next few hours.
Juvederm has been shown to occasionally cause swelling under the eyes. I prefer Restylane to either Radiesse or Sculptra. It is reversible unlike the others. It is also clear and soft. Radiesse can occasionally cause pigmentation problems in the tear trough area.
I have not heard of waiting until 25. Some individuals are good candidates early on. The youngest patient I have treated was 17 and had a severely small chin. She really benefited from the augmentation.
It depends on how much filler we use. Most people will use 2 syringes for the cheeks and eyes the first time. We are working on a pricing list and should have it up within the month.
Fillers are great for creating a more chiseled look. The areas to be augmented are the cheeks, the chin (key), the nasal bridge and occasionally the tip. These are the areas of definition that make faces more attractive.
This is great info. Thanks! I am a runner and I get lines from my mouth to nose from smiling. They used to go away but now they stay. A derm said that's my face shape and Juvaderm will not fill the entire area. She said dry skin and low body fat are making the lines. She told me to drink more water & reduce my exercise and retin A use. Why won't my doc use filler like u did?
would you suggest cheek augmentation to a person who has round high cheek bones that kind of makes the face look fat accompanied with shadow under the eyes ?
Yes, I would, possibly along with non-surgical chin augmentation. Together, these procedures add definition to the face, which can make the face look more slimmer.
It's very possible! I like to think of using the fillers to augment the cheek BONE area, or upper cheek. This can add definition to the face and sometimes give a slimming effect.
Excellent video; exquisite results. I met with a well-respected plastic surgeon today (here on the east coast) to review some non-surgical facial rejuvenation options available to me. Interestingly, his explanations/recommendations were nearly identical to yours (re: fillers, their use, placement, etc.). I feel reassured and comfortable moving forward. Thanks.
In general, cheek augmentation can be helpful in making the face look more symmetric and the cheeks are probably more important since they are close to the eyes and in the middle of the face.
Hi, I had Juvaderm injected in my tear trough 3 years ago. It caused awful blue lumps, that I still do have. I don't have pretty much any volume in my cheeks, I'd like to get Radiesse or Sculptra, but I am scared. I think, my doc did not inject the filler deep enough. I know, it's hard to tell without seeing my pics, but is that possible, that I just might have skin toot thin for any filler?
What is your waiting list like? I've had some bad filler injections and need some correction from a pro like yourself asap. I live in the So Bay, but you'd be worth the trip!
Do you know anyone in the Orlando FL area as skilled as you are? I want to try this but I'm scared of looking like a muppet. You work looks very natural.
Unfortunately, I don't have any referrals for your area but we love seeing patients from out of town! Give my office a call at 415-445-9513, and my staff will be happy to assist you with scheduling an appointment and any travel arrangements. We can even schedule you for a Skype consultation!
Just a general q - what is the average volume (say, of voluma) that you would use to augment the cheek area in mL (I know there is huge individual variation)? Thx!
@DrDavidMabriel I have used radiesse for cheekbones before. My doc is not ordering it for a while but suggested restylane to augment my cheekbones. Is restylane just as effective? Do I need to use more syringes of restylane? I would use 1 and 1/2 of large radiesse before.
+aia angle Hey there! Great question. Yes, there is a way to permanently add volume to your cheeks. There are permanent fillers available as well as cheek implants that do the trick. Personally speaking, I like temporary dermal fillers so much better. They’re not only quick and easy (with a short recovery time), but you have complete control over what your results will look like. Permanent fillers and implants may last long, but they’re not as versatile. Just saying.
Hi Dr Mabrie, love what you did to your patients. But having to top up fillers every 6 months is financially impossible for me. Do you think getting cheek implants once and for all will help? If you don't mind, pls share your opinion. Thanks!
Hmmm. Well it's hard to say without looking at your face in person. I will say that the options for treating these lines (nasolabial folds) include: 1. Cheek augmentation with fillers 2. Placing fillers in the folds directly. (This works particularly well with the new microcannula.) 3. Occasionally using a very small amount of botox in a small muscle that makes the lines deeper. I hope this helps, good luck!
@DavidMabrieMD Hello, I have a question for you. First I would like you too know that I am a competitive female athlete and I am physically very active and have also spent a few thousand on treatments such as Sculptra, Restylane, Juve, Radiesse and Botox plus some other stuff but none seem to last very long and I have been doing this for a few years. My question too you is do these fillers not last very long due to my physical activities that the body just absorbs it quicker than norm?
Thank you! Occasionally cheek implants can be helpful, but they have more complications and risks than injectables. One would still need fillers around the eyes.
Occasionally, we will use a saline solution to do a test run. This will show a patient what filler placement would look like. The results last for about 10 minutes.
What is the difference between Voluma and Radiesse? I went for a consult and one doctor recommended Radiesse, but I know that Voluma is more common... Thx
Jennifer, all filler differ in consistency and longevity. Check out our Fillers101 page. On the bottom we explain Radiesse, Juvederm and other fillers. www.yourfaceinourhands.com/resources/injectable-fillers-101/. I hope his is helpful.
Hi Imy Kuro, thanks for watching our video. All results shown in this video are achieved non-surgically with reversible injectable dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are injected beneath the skin in the targeted areas using a microcannula. Once the filler substance has been injected, it plumps up the skin from beneath, augmenting the cheeks. If you want to know more about non-surgical cheek augmentation check out our website: www.yourfaceinourhands.com/menu-of-services/treatment-packages/cheeks/. Let us know if we can answer any questions you may have. ~Mabrie Team
(This is off-topic, and probably won't be posted, but you are so cute, haha) Thank you for posting this very informative video. It's amazing how fillers can transform a look. IMHO, a great option to facial plastic surgery. Best wishes on a thriving practice!
I am 28 with slightly hollowed tear troughs, I also wanted my cheeks filled for some definition and lifting...how many sysringe would you estimate I need
Sharla Johnson It is hard to determine the amount of syringes a person would need without a examining their face. As an average, I use 1-2 syringes of Restylane for the tear troughs and 1-2 syringes of Juvederm Voluma for the cheeks.
Hi Hilwa Hilwa! Unfortunately, I have not used Juvederm Ultra 4 as it is not available in the US. I suggest asking a skilled injector in your area who has more knowledge of the product.
My question is the numbing of the face. Is the whole face rubbed with something before the injections. I want to have this done, but know I will need a Valium to relax my nerves.
wow..this is a great work!! i have a question for u Dr. Mabrie..at the sec 0.50 u show an example of the woman with shadowing under eyes etc..i have the same problem with my face like she has..i live in europe and i def need a visa to come in america anyway..so can u explain to me about the cost of the whole procedure etc..bcoz i didnt see it on ur website at all..u can reply to me in my inbox here if u want..thank u
When I was 30, people thought I was between 18 and 21 years old. Now that I am 43, my face is slimming down and I look, 43. I would like to lose about 5 years in my face appearance. I am beginning get flat faced but I have prominent cheekbones.
Hi Svetlana. Your body will slowly absorb the dermal filler and your face will return to its original state. You will not experience any additional sagging or side effects after your body absorbs all the dermal filler.
Hi Bellah Syc! The amount of dermal filler needed for a specific patient depends on the patient's goals, facial anatomy and schedule. During a consultation I would develop a treatment plan for you, letting you know what type of dermal filler would be the best option and how many syringes you would need, to help you achieve your perfect face!
I'm really considering this, because I have natural eye bags that are always under my eyes, due to my facial structure I believe? I love your work it looks beautiful I'm really considering getting this done. Is this a one time thing or do you have to keep up with it?
Hi! I typically use Juvederm Volume for the cheeks and it costs $1275 per syringe at my office. The number of syringes used for a full treatment will depend on your facial anatomy and goals. Unfortunately, I do not use glutathione so do not have any information on this product.
Radiesse is thicker and there is more product per syringe of radiesse (about 50% more) compared to restylane. However, if you've had radiesse in the past, your body will have built up much of it's own collagen and you will probably need less product.
Hello Dr. David C. Mabrie, first, the shown results do really look great and give a rejuvenating impression of the face - I enjoyed watching your video - great work! I would like to have a combination of filling my tear trough (because of the dark shadows under my eyes) and cheek augmentation. 1) which type of fillers (Juvederm, Restylane etc.) would you use for the the tear trough and the cheek augmentation respectively? What does it depend on? 2) is there a probability and how high is it that the injected fillers, especially from the cheek area, sink down to other parts of the face, where you do not want it to have? And how long does it take to fix the filler at the desired face area (or is it fixed at the injected area immediately after injection?) I would be really grateful for your answer!
Maria F I typically use Restylane for the tear troughs and Juvederm Voluma or Restylane for the cheeks. I inject the dermal fillers in the subcutaneous muscle, which will prevent it from sinking or moving.
@xOxKurdParstxOx Generally not recommended. Great care is taken to avoid nerves and arteries. One must also place the fillers carefully not to injure the skin.

The guy's before & after literally made my jaw drop omg woww
Thank you!
This guy has the most soothing voice of any doctor I have ever heard. I wish his practice was close to Arkansas.
Most times, I use 2 syringes total the first visit to treat the tear trough and upper cheek.
I really like your channel. I don't think I need fillers yet but I like watching medical stuff. I like how you explain how the products work.

Thanks for the request. This is new stuff, I'm not yet familiar with a particular book discussing the cheeks and their importance to the face.
It's possible that you may benefit from some fillers in the in between areas: tear troughs, midcheek areas, sides of the mouth, or lips.
Wow, incredible. You are a true master. Wish I could come to you. I have been to a couple doctors in Orlando, but I am not satisfied with their work.
This is great info. Thanks! I am a runner and I get lines from my mouth to nose from smiling. They used to go away but now they stay. Best video I've seen yet. Really enjoyed your detailed information and photos.
Can you show the patient by simulation on the computer what they are likely to look like after the procedures and is that a common practice?
Do you have any referrals for a practitioner in Salt Lake City? I'd love to just come see you..! ..but since I can't- any recommendations?
My apologies, I don't have a referral for Salt Lake City unfortunately. Come to SF!

what brand of fillers and how much did you use for the hairdresser case? it is a huge difference between before and after and still looks natural

Why aren't Doctors like this in Miamiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!??
ive been told my under eye veins are too prominent for fillers. have you had experience with that
Love your videos. Beautifully explains and demonstrates everything we need to know. Thank you!

AMAZING RESULTS! What about a patient on blood thinners? Is there a hope for treatment? My tear troughs are so deep!
mamabelle Patients taking blood thinners can still receive dermal fillers, but the risk of bruising is higher.
Plz doc. can u tell me if there is a permenant way to full the cheeks not for the purpose of becoming smaller but for volume ??

is 21 years old too young to get a chin implant or cheek augmentation? I've heard that some people think you should wait until you are at least 25...
Very informative presentation
Thank you!

Your work is amazing! I LOVE this video!
wow .. cant you move to england.
Wow! you are an artist sir.
Your work is amazing !! Can these fillers be used to feminize a face for a male to female transgender?
Hi Hamed Khan. Yes! I have multiple transgender patients that use dermal fillers to either make the face more feminine or masculine.
You inspire confidence, and I love your work! Greetings from Europe
would you recommend cheek augmentation or jaw surgery for an uneven look in face appearance? @davidmabriemd
I wish you were here in Houston
hi bigec3: As an athlete, you can burn through body fat. I am a gym rat, older, and need to be careful of that. The face will thin often with low body fat. Be sure that you are checked for iron deficiency and/or anemia. Female athletes are prone to this and it will make you look old and face gaunt. Make sure your iron level is between 60-100+. With your MD's guidance, if you are low, iron supps can make a HUGE difference in your appearance, esp. the face.
@brittanibby100 Fillers last up to 12 months. Most patients come in at 6 month intervals the first few times. Each time it's done, there is a cumulative effect over time.
